It's been rumoured that some people actually live in Red Deer. I have trouble seeing it myself, but, just reporting what I've heard.

Over 100k people live there believe it or not but it's really treated more of a stopover between Edmonton and Calgary.

Yeah, not everyone can afford the glamorous out of town wedding or prestige location. I'm sure they got a great rate doing it mid-winter in Red Deer during a pandemic.

I'd add though, holding a wedding reception right now is probably not the smartest move.

So you want a game to be played no matter what so you can get your daily dose of hockey? Kinda selfish.

if we’d do it the way you propose, a taxi squad would have helped. Extra team would be even better.

But going thru that just to play a hockey game?

Whose going to take responsibility if someone gets infected, doesn't know about it, plays and gets serious health issues, maybe even dies? Any physical exercise when sick can cause serious issues.

Cancel the tournament. Health of these young people are much more important than some entertainment.
We've been running sporting leagues for a while in a COVID world, how many of these young fit athletes have gotten infected, become seriously ill and died? We can't live in a world with absolutely n0 risk and completely rob a generation of the only youth they will ever have. I know this is all developing in real time so it's difficult to determine the best approach but the best approach CANNOT be "no events ever until we have 0 cases".

It'll be interesting to see if the IIHF tries to make next year's tournament in Canada if they end up cancelling this one. You know they're discussing it.

This is fear mongering. There is no evidence that healthy, vaccinated people are going to die from Covid. Equally like they would die from the flu.
We have to return to some semblance of common sense or the rest of our lives is going to be not worth living
Agreed. If we continue to use case counts to dictate how we run society (sports and gyms specifically) while we have vaccines and boosters in place, what are we doing? I mean just shut down all sports related activities amateur or pro in Canada. The USA said ***k it , move ahead! I never think Canada should mirror the states on anything, but this is one of those rare times i say copy and paste Canada!

This is ridiculous. How could they not have thought about handling positive cases properly almost 2 years into the pandemic.

Not only are the forfeits worrisome. But the 1-0 results could mess up the tiebreakers due to goal differential too.

I'm fine with cancelling unless the IIHF drastically changes the protocols.

I agree.
I was in favor of shutdowns while there were people out there that wanted vaccines but couldn’t get them yet. Here we are with everyone vaccinated that wanted one, and evidence showing that vaccinated people were by and large asymptomatic or had mild symptoms similar to a common cold, but we are still in a f***ing lockdown mentality as if we were dealing with air borne Ebola. f*** off and let’s start living our lives. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point.

I'd rather it continue as things stand at this moment. There are some obvious changes that need to be made though.

It’s not up to Hockey Canada, it’s all IIHF
The IIHF proper itself is basically just a shell organization of around 20 employees. What it really is a collection of the member federations. Hockey Canada is likely the biggest voice amongst those federations (for good reason).

What do you mean, no matter what? Players all get tested. Those that tested negative and get another test before the game (negative as well) should play.

I don't get how getting players who are testing negative to play is being "selfish" (right before the game... too).

My point is a pragmatic one that doesn't really have anything to do with my desire (or lack of) of watching junior games. Think about the players involved, they want to play and they are hit the hardest when they are apt to play but a game is forfeited (or the tourney canceled).

I believe this would be all in line with the current government guidelines (no symptom/negative quick test = no isolation).
