I wish I had been at the game - the crowd sounded energized.
And really, the Jets crapped the bed for about 20 minutes and allowed the two goals, but Mason gave the Flyers a chance to steal the game. It's very heartening to see the Jets dig in their heels, collectively, in the third when they're behind on the score sheet, though. That's not something we've seen a lot of in the previous two seasons - Pavelec and the skaters gave up by the third in just about any game last year if they were behind going into the third period.
And I am very encouraged by the third D pairing - other than Pardy's penalties, and just a few bad chip outs by both of them, they played a solid game. They are HUGE improvement over Stuart and Postma. From reading Kings fans comments it seemed as though Ellerby was soft on the puck and prone to bonehead over-commitments, but last night he was quietly effective moving the puck up, and took a few Flyers out along the boards. Pardy is a somewhat deft puck-handler, which I don't remember him being as a Leaf. The bottom line is that I don't start sweating the moment the puck crosses into the D-zone when Pardy /Ellerby are on the ice, unlike when Stuart/Postma start handling the puck like it's a grenade.
Overall, the Jets have earned their winning streak, and have done it by incrementally improving some facets of the game that we were all criticising the team for. Baby steps, and theyre all taking one or two small baby steps, which has been reflected in the results of the last half-dozen games.
I'm really looking forward to Sunday's game. And really angry with myself for forgetting to drop my entire vBucks hoard on the Jets last night. Crap. Stupid Monty.
