I think Schiefele has a higher ceiling than Couts. It really looks like he's going to break out. His breakaway was just dirty.

One game it'll switch and Scheifele will turn into a 60 point guy.

what is your deal? Are all of your posts designed to try and dig at someone?

No, I just like to call out fans who change their opinion of a player on a daily basis. There was a game not too long ago where our defense gave up two brutal giveaways, giving the other team a wide open look in front of the net, in which they scored. We lost the game. People were all over Pavs and wanted Montoya.
Our offense scores enough for us to win, it's okay. But if we don't score and lose the game, Pavs is terrible.

how's Scheifele vs Couturier last night?

If Scheif is able to hang with Couturier overall in possession, etc. then I think he will come out ahead. I think he shows a lot more offensive moxy and upside, and still has more physical development ahead of him. I like Couturier and was among those that wondered whether Chevy should have taken the seemingly obvious pick. But, on balance, I think Scheif has more upside. I'm a big fan of vision and hockey sense, and I think Scheif is good in both of those areas.

I think most just say that they think Pav's is terrible when they think Pavelec played terrible.

Pavelec's play isn't necessarily need to be linked to the rest of the team.

Both can be bad at the same time. Both can be responsible for a goal against or a loss.

Just like both can be good or be different with one bad and one good.

Scheif still looks like a kid out there, getting man handled. I remember that one play where he was coming into the zone and ran into their defenseman, it was like he ran into the wall, then the guy just pushed him back like nothing.

My example in my post which you are replying to suggests otherwise. Giving up a break away goal because your defense made stupid mistakes shouldn't determine your overall play for the night.

I'm simply saying having one person playing poorly does not excuse another player's poor play.

Breakaways for example are not 100% certain goals.......

Also, you also mentioned scoring to support Pavelec, yet over the last two seasons, Jets have scored and created scoring chances at above league average level.

Granted that was Luke Schenn who is notorious for being one of the hardest hitters in the league. He has wrecked so pretty good players (Stammer being one) in the past. He's slow as hell, but if he catches you, there's maybe only a dozen guys in the league that won't lose.

Scheif does need to get stronger though. When he has space, he's the best player on our team. He just needs to get that space more often.

Guy gets hit and goes down and he's a kid being manhandled?

Great hyperbole.

If you read the narrative that Lawless put forth, the Jets barely hung in there and it was only by Pavs' will that the Jets won.

Classic Lawless. The guy should stick to researching and squeezing sources. That's what he's good at. He has next to zero ability to analyze the game and offer quality independent thought. The Fenwick chart is exactly how I saw the game which tells a different story than the Lawless narrative.

But that doesn't tell the nice neat black and white story wrapped up in a bow that Lawless likes to write. Today's mission was to pump Pavvy's tires and that's what he did.

I find his style tiresome. Bring back the plagarizer!:naughty:

To further:

Only ONE player on the whole team was out shot (both shots on goal, non-blocked shot attempts and shot attempts).

That's not a sign of a team being destroyed.

Break away or not, it depends how good the shot is. If pavs is out of position or plays it wrong, its on him. Its his job to stop pucks from going into the net. He's the last wall of defense. But the criticism of Pavelec has never been about one game. If he keeps playing like he has been, nobody will have any problem with him. You can't ask for much more from a goalie than a 2 gaa and a 9.15 save %. The problem is he hasn't been that ever before over a season. We all hope he will be because that's what we need. You will note that this past 6 or 7 games where he's been playing well has coincided with a nice little win streak for the team right? Hmmmm.....

No, not the one along the boards. Another time in the open ice. Wasn't really a hit, he kinda just bounced off the guy, then he was thrown.

Still doesn't make him getting manhandled out there. He's taking hits for sure, but he's holding his own.

You can totally tell at times in the coaches press conferences that the lawman already has his column totally written and only wants a couple of quotes to finish it off, some of his questions are bizarre when taken in context of what happened in the game. Then there are the ones where he rambles on for what feels like five minutes (basically reciting his precanned column) and Noel looks and him and says "is there a question in there?".

Drives me nuts. Oh well at least he pumps your tires sometimes on twitter for all the free research he gets..... :naughty:

EDIT:
Wow, just saw how vRich I am, haven't been this flush since the LA game in the first week of the season.:bb::bb::bb:

@BrownScottTN: #NHLJets recall defenceman Julian Melchiori from St. John's IceCaps

Yeah it is still uncertain. All that I've heard so far is he isn't travelling with the team to Minny and he is going to be further assessed later this afternoon. It Appears with the call up that Stuart isn't ready yet. My guess Redmond slots in and they want Melchiori up as the 7th, especially with back to back games.
