I thought it was well known he interviewed Travis Green. Ottawa and Buffalo hiring Green and Ruff immediately has to be some of the most puzzling coaching decisions since Babcock. Made so sense that they were that impatient. Worked out well for us though!

it’s funny because devils twitter was freaking the f*** out that we didn’t hire someone during the first round lol

Analytics is a huge part of the organization and Keefe is totally in alignment on that.

I think Ruff was a tough sell at times in that department.
You think they had gotten to numerals past the 8 when Ruff stared coaching? How did you expect him to understand the analytics when they kept combing all those numbers and they used that dad burn fractional decimals.

Lindy couldn't spell analytics.

He interviewed Green so, yes, he did interview a bad candidate
I'm skeptical he really did interview Green, unless he was like the first or second guy he interviewed. Or maybe his interview was done during the exit meeting, but he said something like ''He'll get an interview this summer'' when the season was ending.

Green was scooped up pretty quickly after our season ended.

What are the odds Woodcroft would come on as an assistant?

I think 100% if he isn't hired as a HC from someone. But expect it to be a Brunette situation where he is here for the year and next year someone hires him to be their head coach if we have success this season.
Yeah, he'd likely be a one and done.

Not sure if Fitz/Keefe has any interest in hiring him as an assistant.

He's almost definitely still getting paid by the Oilers for next year, so it's up to him if he wants to go to work to be an assistant or just stay home for a year while getting paid his head coach's salary.

He probably won't get hired to be a head coach for next year, because it looks like we're almost all out of those jobs. But he'll probably get offers either in-season when someone is fired (that won't/can't happen if he's an assistant somewhere though) or next offseason.

What vacancies are there? I don't see him returning to San Jose at this time to be head coach for them, unless he's intrigued by the idea of coaching Celebrini. Maybe Columbus if Waddell decides to fire Pascal Vincent after just one year and bring his own guy in?

Keefe likes to change his lines often so I don't think his answer would be meaningful tbh. He's a very active coach, will bring different guys in and change around the bottom / top 6 weekly. Either you love that or hate that haha.

Last season he played Nylander at center in pre-season / first several games, at LW, and at RW. He played Marner on RD several games when there were injuries. He had Tavares / Nylander running the third line individually at times and other times had them mixed up in the top 6. He played Tavares at LW as well, played Domi everywhere from 3rd line C to top line winger, etc.

I'm surprised he didn't try to play one of your guys in goal (or did he lol)

Well to be fair Fitz’s idea of communication is direct and transparent, not media savvy and polished

So the complete opposite of what everyone in corporate thinks is good communication.

I wouldn’t be suprised if they done away with the hire an ex head coach as an assistent

That seemed like a fail safe for Lindy if he was just to abrubtly retire or had to leave due to age

Watching the full press conference , it's making me like this move even more. Keefe seems like a guy the locker room will respect right away and he does have a ton of coaching experience for being only in his early 40's. Tom just needs to get that starting goalie and a few depth players.

I'm glad we kept Sarge and McGill around as well assistants. @Bleedred buddy Rogalski's job looks to be safe for now though haha.

There's no sign of the assistants being kept around is there? Seems like he's evaluating?

Keefe is likely going to lean heavily into analytics to fill out his staff, which is the best thing to do for guys running PP or Pk. I don’t care what sort of hockey mind you seem to have, can you consistently get results out of your special teams.
I like analytics in terms of player acquisition, but in terms of coaching? I dunno. Unless the idea is "this is how goals are scored, so let's work on those setups" but it still get's down to actually coaching guys up, or putting the right guys in those situations, to be able to perform "what works".

Wasn't Ruff ahead of the game in this regard?

And this year's team kind of points to that, in that the analytics(at least the one's we see) were better then the results, especially early in the year.

I certainly think it will help with in zone coverages on D and where shots should come from in the o-zone. If they can focus on getting shots from those high danger areas while minimizing them on the other end it'll help. I can't imagine he's going to be like well Tomas Nosek has a 54CF let's give him PP1 time.
