I have no issues with the contract extension. Keefe is a promising young coach and deserves more time to get this team over the hump in the playoffs.

Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes regarding player deployment in the post season.

You don't think a public show of confidence in a coach of a group that has a growing rep for immaturity/uncoachability, has gotten a coach fired, and knows/thinks they swing a pretty big stick in terms of internal dynamics is an overt message?

IMO it's pretty clear "If I'm still in charge, Keefe outlasts you"
Pretty standard not to have a lame duck coach. I don't think there was any hidden meaning behind it nor would it be necessary to provide one.

Dubie giving his buddy a payout pure and simple .. both and Shanny will be gone this year 2021/2022 .. each needs a good payout when group is severed
Yep, advanced severance if things don't work out. I'd expect one for Dubas if he hasn't already gotten it.

Good ninja edit. Nice to see you're pulling back on openly rooting against the team.
thinking the GM is doing a poor job isn't rooting against for the team

but maybe i'll join the positive posters and shit on Marner and whoever else becomes the new whipping boy this year so i can get into the "in crowd"

I don't think it's particularly hidden, which is why I was surprised it hadn't been discussed in the bit of the thread I read. It's neon flashing lights.

Can't say I agree. Perhaps it could be seen as a message to the fans and media but I don't see how this affects the players.

Meh. If I had a contentious relationship with my last boss and got him fired, had things going a little rocky with his replacement but this time his boss comes out and declares to me (and the world) that his job is safe, I'd take it as a pretty clear message that things will not be going down the same way again.

Only way he gets fired is if team does poorly.
Hoping he gets fired = hoping team does poorly.
when did i "hope" he gets fired ?

but hey i'll jump on the "f*** that greedy prick Marner" band wagon so we can be beasties

i just have have to sort out the real fans sacred cow pecking list , i know Dubas is at the top and the more connected people are too him the higher they are but i'm just trying to figure out which one of Keefe or Tavares comes next ?

I don't think enough people on this board give the Habs D enough credit. If not for them, I bet Matty has a better series.

They do deserve some credit but our guys also need to be held accountable. That OT game where Gally coughed up the puck was rough, we were absolutely dominating them. Habs were completely gassed, Matthews just hit a post minutes before their eventual game winner. This board would've been so different if the puck was two inches to the left. Overall we had so many opportunities to finish the series and failed on all of them. Our 11M guys need to be better than their defence, that's what they are paid for.

This isn't your normal work environment though. Employees don't typically make 10-20 times what their bosses do.
Two year extension doesn't scream his job is safe. Pretty normal extension for someone who still needs to prove themselves.

IMO, you are way over thinking this.

Oddly enough, The TB and NYI series wins are examples of series where goaltending was ultimately the deciding factor in the series.

Looking at the champs, Tampa wasnt nearly as impressive in their team play as years past and Vasy did most of the heavy lifting for them with Hedman labouring (with what turned out to be a pretty bad injury).

I hope our tandem works out like the Isles tandems have for them the last few years.
Hard to say. The outcome might have been different if Keefe believed in line matching and managed to get Marner and Matthews some easier players to play against or given Willy and Spezza more is time. They seemed to be able to score and rack up points

Maybe, but I think given the already wonky power dynamic (even for a hockey team) there's something there.
Humour me- assuming the team falters yet Dubas' job is somehow safe, based on available information do you think we see Keefe fired or a core shakeup?

context would help and the full post was about how i'm tired of reading some in our fan base regurgitating Dubas belief in smurf hockey and how they used to be all about beating the crap out of people on the way to the cup when Burke was GM , basically i'm just saying it would be nice if people could think for themselves instead of feeling the need to follow whoever our GM is

anyway you still haven't help me out with the sacred cow list i need to put together so i don't upset the real fans

That's a tough one. If they falter again, I don't think Dubas is safe which makes it tough to answer.
If pressed, I can't see them choosing the coach over the core.

Before this offseason I'd agree. But from the All or Nothing tidbits, this extension, then general feel of the offseason, I think that commitment is waning. But yeah it's moot IMO. Betting on them this season is betting the job.

Haven't watched the show yet.

You realize Dubas can't magically add players to the team right? He doesn't believe in smurf hockey. There simply was no hard hitting, tenacious players to add to the roster. So it's smarter to go with the high skilled guy over bruisers in a lot of cases, especially the draft.

When a sandpaper guy like Hyman, Muzzin, Clifford etc becomes available and affordable, Dubas is right there in the action to get them. Knies draft pick is a good example. Finally a mix worth grabbing that involves height and bigger frame. A "greasy rat" like Bunting becomes available who has soft hands around the net is scooped up over guys like Tatar. Nick Ritchie is a sandpaper guy with skill worth signing as well. Guess who scooped him? Dubas. He even made a mistake going with Foligno over Taylor Hall but it still supports he doesn't believe in smurf hockey.

I'm assuming you're too far gone to really take any of this in though. Your ignorant view will prevail and apparently there's sand paper guys available 24/7 for us to grab. Building a team takes time the resources you have access to season to season is finite.

I dunno. If you need a goal, it kinda makes sense to put Marner and Matthews out there even if they've been cold for a couple games.
Agreed but Nylander-Matthews works really well too and he never even gave that a try, not to mention Mitch has worked with pretty much any line mates he's played with. I like Keefe but that static approach is what I couldn't stand about Babcock, along with his personality and ego of course

This is my issue - the stubborness. It was my issue with Babcock and is becoming an issue with Keefe.

We have a number of great players up front there is no need to be married to the pairings you chose 1st.
