Insanity?
THIS.. IS.. SHANNY

Except there’s no kicking the guy down the well because Shanny would call in a favor to his boys at the DOPS to suspend you for a blindside Sparta-kick to the chest.

I keep seeing takes like this and I really really don’t get it. Our biggest decisions for the team need to happen NOW. There’s no “wait and assess for a season or two”, the choices need to happen now and they need to be decisive.

You can “keep a bullet in the chamber” when you’re the guy coming in after Nonis and keep whoever the roadkill coach was at the time because it doesn’t really matter who’s behind the helm of a lottery season.

Keeping + extending Keefe for your own job security at this critical junction in the team’s future is insanity. You either believe he’s a guy that can take you all the way or you need to be actively looking for someone who can.

This middle ground half measure is such a hilariously weak position for management to take, but completely expected from Shanny. I’d really love it if he worked out his demons in therapy instead of atoning for concussing people as a player by embracing and worshipping weakness as an executive.
If the roster wasn't in such bad shape and having to deal with Matthews, willies and Mariners contracts, I 100 percent would say fire keef.

Listening to Trees interview he made it seem like Keefe was coaching the way he was directed and was willing to make changes. Also said something along the lines of people tend to do better on their second opportunity.
Kinda strange how he framed the answe but almost as if SK was doung what he was told by KD.
Gives Tree a bullet I guess

I’m not against keeping Keefe, but only if you are actually confident he can win you a cup. Keeping a guy who is a safe bet for a good regular season and 3-5 post season wins but no chance at a cup as a safety net for your own job security is setting the complete opposite tone/culture at the absolute worst time to do it.

If true then Keefe is an even worse coach than I thought.

Zero backbone.

While I wanted him gone, an extension means nothing. If the team is floundering in December he'll be booted.

Our team doesn't flounder in December. It only flounders in May
By then it will be too late, yet again

So allow me to understand this:

Same coach
Same core 4
Same bottom 6 if we signt Kampf and Kerfoot
Same goalie

Players that are not coming back apparently are Schenn and Acciari. The ones we needed to keep?

Yeape, makes just about every sense

Babcock was fired in December.

Keefe can coach. Dubas lesrned to GM, especially the last offseason (his contracted to the Core were poorly negotiated IMO). The abysmal playoffs failures lie solely on the players. Certainly after this many years.

Keefe will make a few more bucks, but barring major changes ro the Core he will be bounced in a year or two when their playoff fallures continue. Certain players have playoff DNA, others probably never will.

After this long I am thorughly convinced that some won't get it done during playoffs. When you are paying such players $10M+ of your Cap, good luck.

You could bring back Toe Blake in todays NHL and with certsin players he would fail once the game gets in the mud.

Treliving presents himself like the adult in the room. That is reassuring.

If both sides desire to keep the relationship, apply lessons learned from their past experiences, and work to give it another chance at success, well, God bless. This time is not last time (my Erhard Standard Training kicking in).

Conspiracy Theory for the Day:

Leafs want Quenneville.
Bettman won't reinstate him if he thinks he will be "rewarded" by a Maple Leafs hire.
Leafs retain Keefe to show they aren't hiring.
Bettman reinstates Quenneville.
Leafs fire Keefe and hire Quenneville.
Bettman declares war and strips Toronto of it's next 5 First Round picks but the last laugh is on Bettman since Dubas left us none! :)

Post is strictly tongue in cheek.

Keefe has to go, but he can be fired at any time.
