Just curious, any Keefe fans here or anyone think Keefe is actually a really good coach and just under lucky

If Keefe is really that unlucky, no one should want him anywhere near their sports team.

Black cats would be crossing the road to avoid him. He would have to be the unluckiest coach in all hockey. It's either he's unlucky or he's a bad NHL coach in the playoffs.

It's either one or the other, there is no other choice.

Personally I don't think he's that unlucky.

Keefe should have been fired after the Habs series. Not a single coach from the North division still around except for Keefe. Yet his team was the one that lost the 3-1 choke job by no other than our bitter rival

People are saying, well, there's nobody out there worth pursuing. Well just get another college coach or something for interm basis. He can't do worse than Keefe. The team will do just fine in regular season and make the playoffs no matter who the coach is.

Absolutely not looking forward to next season. Same coach, same core 4 yet we are expecting different results. All we are going to do is move the bottom 6, like we have for last 5 years

You're absolutely right.

Shanahan had an easy out after the Montreal series.

He could have fired Dubas and Keefe then. Instead he's managed to do everything he could to turn the crosshairs on himself. You can be sure there's a bullet waiting with his name on it.

When you gamble playing Russian Roulette you don't usually get as many shots as Shanahan has here.

Will the Leafs announce an extension for Sheldon Keefe?

Look, very often the media availability with an NHL team’s head coach at the draft is not all that revealing. These coaches have probably spent their previous few weeks and months unwinding or reviewing tape and have little if any input on who has been drafted. They know the players just drafted are years away from being sent over the boards by them, if at all.

In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Sheldon Keefe as relaxed as he was at the 2022 draft.

But this year could be different. Should Keefe speak to the media, he’ll have plenty of questions to answer, namely: what does his future look like as Leafs head coach?

There was something of an assumption after another season without a deep playoff run, and with Kyle Dubas out as GM, that Keefe might not be back in Toronto in 2023-24 either. He has one year left on his contract. But with Keefe and Treliving reportedly on the hunt together for a new assistant coach, is the road being paved for Keefe’s return?

Keefe is, after all, a very good coach with a very good track record of success in the regular season. The idea of him returning as a lame-duck coach in the final year of his contract is a head-scratcher, so it’s starting to feel more and more possible the Leafs announce an extension before draft day. If that happens, the questions about his future will be a talking point at the draft. But without any clarity on that future, the discussion over whether Keefe returns and for how long won’t end anytime soon.

Well, Keefe is back. Sigh
I wouldn´t be at all surprised if the core 4 are also back for more franchise disapointment and fanbase frustration.

This this not bode well for Tree´s time with us.

He's getting an extension too... IIRC, didn't Trotz win the Cup with the Capitals while being a lame-duck?

It's depressing, but it kind of makes sense for the new GM. Before he fires that bullet on the coach and save it for later. it makes sense for him to see exactly what he's got going on here.

So one of the core 4 has to go right ? Coach is confirmed coming back, all 4 of them can't return, this is insanity.

Insanity?
THIS.. IS.. SHANNY

Except there’s no kicking the guy down the well because Shanny would call in a favor to his boys at the DOPS to suspend you for a blindside Sparta-kick to the chest.

I keep seeing takes like this and I really really don’t get it. Our biggest decisions for the team need to happen NOW. There’s no “wait and assess for a season or two”, the choices need to happen now and they need to be decisive.

You can “keep a bullet in the chamber” when you’re the guy coming in after Nonis and keep whoever the roadkill coach was at the time because it doesn’t really matter who’s behind the helm of a lottery season.

Keeping + extending Keefe for your own job security at this critical junction in the team’s future is insanity. You either believe he’s a guy that can take you all the way or you need to be actively looking for someone who can.

This middle ground half measure is such a hilariously weak position for management to take, but completely expected from Shanny. I’d really love it if he worked out his demons in therapy instead of atoning for concussing people as a player by embracing and worshipping weakness as an executive.
