I'm not liking Keefe's impact on this team but it's painfully obvious all of our problems stem from shoddy roster construction. There's almost $10 million in LTIR money that blew up in the GM's face on the first week of the season. Muzzin was on the books and Murray was such an own goal of epic proportions. Keefe will likely be the first to go because of rank, but really it should be the GM first.
Getting rid of the coach is the easiest "we're trying" move. Tonight should be his last game.

The entire hockey operation needs to go

So we are into our second coach, and we see the same trends from the skaters.

What do you expect to change with another coach?

They didn't like the hard nosed coach, they don't like the soft touch coach...

I get the first change has to be the coach, but this, what we are witnessing right now is 90% on the players if not higher.

Until they outbattled an opponent, this will continue.

It will take a very unique combination mental gymnastics and cowardice to fire Keefe, but not fire Dubas.

Keefe was Dubas' choice to coach this Dubas built team.

This is garbage. Keefe never should have been hired in the first place. Dubas should have let Babcock do his job but the children didn't like Babcock holding them accountable as if they were actual men. Because Kyle is a jock sniffer who wants to be accepted by the boys in the locker room, he caves in and gives them the coach they want. Now after a couple of failed seasons they are going to get this clown fired because they are entitled brats. I knew this season was a bust when Keefe walked back his valid criticisms just a few games in. They are playing to get another coach fired, plain and simple.

Bring in Trots and see what a real coach can do. It is time. Dubas removed and Shanny can take over and keep his mouth shut. Hire a GM as you go

It's everything. I get it. It starts with Shanny then Kyle, etc. Sadly coaches are the first to go when a team has high expectations. It's always been that way and it always will.

MLSE will have a heart attack. Quennville has to be reinstated by the commissionaire
They'll have to make a case for him

Toronto media and shareholders are going to have a hey day

Case: I believe in second chances

Who needs until the new years? Not our coach. He has had a long time to lead the team to success in the playoffs. The team had quit on him. Waiting much longer will only create a worse environment.
Trotz said he has family stuff he's dealing with at the moment and not quite ready to immediately jump back into coaching.

It does feel like Keefe has lost the team, he's gambling with his combinations and he's stressed by the situation. He does seem on the outs. Will this GM really can his man? I don't think he will. It's not in his makeup. Perhaps Keefe resigns?

Keefe will not resign. Not a chance
This is not Paul Maurice who just couldn't handle Winnipeg ( that's right Paul, don't give me that nice guy response)

Keefe has to worry about his future. This is just his first gig. If he quits, that will not look good as a coach
He'll tough it out

ALso, if he resigns he doesn't get paid and loses his benefits

If Shanahan goes to Dubas and says "fire him or you're gone," you better believe Dubas will fire Keefe.

Unfortunately this potentially will be the issue with whomever the next coach is. If Trotz comes in, for example, and tries to establish a defense-first, tight checking approach that helps them win games 2-1, 3-2 etc. I'm not sure the the stars will like the trade-off of sacrificing personal stats for those wins.

They've been conditioned with Keefe to having very little accountability. A demanding coach sits players after they decide to pad their stats up 5-1 against the Sens instead of shutting it down and taking the win. So how do they respond if the new guy does just that? My guess is they'll stop playing for him too.

In MLSE, the inmates (stars) run the asylum unless a coach/GM comes in that puts an end to that and makes it clear if the players don't like it, they'll be in the press box until they accept it. The message is very simple: In the battle between their egos and the coach, the coach will win every time.
