I don't thini brown bugs ppl as much but it's more that without him in the line up we have a shot at 4 scoring lines. But he has a place.

Thanks for the comments. His stats and linemates from last night were actually the reason for me to ask this. Has he commented anything about his season, do you think AHL is an option for him or is it NHL or Europe?

It's definitely NHL or AHL.

What/whose comments?

Still, the new Sharks coach was complimentary of Brown on Thursday.

“Mike is one of those guys that for me, can combine the toughness of being able to take on heavyweights if he has to, but you can also play him,” DeBoer said. “I think that’s the new tough guy in the NHL, because it’s a four-line league now. … The teams that have the toughness, that you can actually play eight or 10 minutes a night, are the ones that have success. I think he’s one of those types of guys.”

It took 10 seconds to Google that.

Don't see comments like that about Goodrow (whom I like).

There are plenty of physical guys in the lineup that can do other stuff than Brown. Like imagine a line of Smith, Wingels, and Torres. That's gonna be a physically painful line to play against and they can actually play.

I like Brown because, while his skill set is extremely limited, he gives 100% every shift, every night

I'm sure coaches love that about him, and it's probably how he's stayed in the league for so long

Management like Brown's energy and his contributions in the PO's, and there were a number of comments around that when he got his current contract.

Edit: which I see someone spent the 10 seconds on Google to post while I was typing this.

Exactly. NHL GMs have long memories. Brown's performance in those handful of games weighs very heavily for him.

That line, I like.

Hell, even John Scott could play actual hockey better than Brown. Many times I saw offense die because Brown was too busy hitting people than actually looking to play the puck. At least John Scott had the hockey sense to maintain offensive zone time.

He himself hasn't said much that I've seen, beyond the normal platitudes about working hard and trying to show he belongs, etc.

What I have seen is on a couple occasions the coaching staff have gone out of their way to be complimentary of him, specifically. Look in the GDT thread from the game yesterday, and there's a recording of the quick pregame press conference with DeBoer, and he specifically praises Doonskoi. I can't imagine that 1G/1A did anything to lessen the coaching staff's opinion of him.

More and more, I'd be more surprised for him to NOT be on the opening day NHL roster than I'd be if he was on it. Like Jux said too, it'll be NHL or AHL for him. Even if he does start in the AHL, I fully expect him to end up on the NHL team at some point in the season.

Does anyone have a list of the players that will have to pass through waivers to join the Barracuda?

Edit: According to one website, Haley, McLaren, Lerg, McCarthy, Stollery, Dell and Groesnick all require waivers. Not sure about Cundari. Doesn't seem like anyone would jump to claim any of those guys.

Cundari does as well.

Haley, Cundari, McCarthy, Dell, Stollery & Lerg have all been placed on waivers according to Lavoie. They'll all go to the Barracuda once they clear.

For some reason they're hanging onto McLaren for now.

Thanks. McLaren is probably still up because he's gonna get suspended for his hit last night. :sarcasm::dunno:

I think we all know McLaren will make the opening day roster over Donskoi where he will feature on a line of Brown-Smith-McLaren. Unfortunately we don't have space to bring in Colton Orr to reunite the fearsome Toronto trio.

I include waiver status.

My potential thought as well.

I'm pretty sure McLaren is signed to a two-way deal, so wouldn't they be able to send him down without going through waivers?

One-way/two-way (or even three-way) has NO CONNECTION on the player's exemption/waiver status.

Two-way "just means" that the player gets less $$ to play in minors that he'd get to be on NHL roster.

I love how the two way vs waivers has to be explained at least ten times every season...

Waivers i can understand. Since there is multiple ways players can become or avoid the waiver eligibility.

But you are right with the one way vs 2 way explaination.
