Look at tierneys WOWYs. He's arguably a bigger possession drag than brown. It's not even up for debate.

The AHL game may be easy for him but his NHL play has been unacceptable. He is still waiver exempt so it's a perfectly reasonable move.

I'm guessing nieto will be a healthy scratch, which is why I say it's brown for nieto. Because if nieto stayed in brown would stay out. So I'm not sure how you can say brown is replacing tierney.

If you want to look at things in a vacuum then no, there's no debating.

I don't agree that his NHL play is "unacceptable" or that it's a reasonable move. What it is is an easy move.

Brown shouldn't be in the line up unless they have no other options, to me that's not up for debate.

I don't know why you're so confused about the line up - one guy out (Tierney), one guy in (Brown).
68-19-8
12-39-42
83-48-57
27-9-18

Though they had the lines all jumbled by the end of the WPG game.

I was confused regarding the line up. Added a firward somehow. Thought nieto would be sitting.

As for tierneys December play being enough...2 points, -5, 16 sog in 14 games, and averaging around 40% (guessing) in face offs. I just don't see why he should have to work on his game a bit?

First of all how can something be both "arguable" and not up for debate?

Secondly I think this is a case of relying too much on the stats and not enough on watching the games. Brown brings some good things like a high work ethic, some physicality and the ability to drop the gloves from time to time. Offense and puck possession are not in his repertoire regardless of what the numbers say. Tierney struggled to generate both earlier in the season primarily because he was playing with Brown and oftentimes another bad player as well. His puck skills, vision, playmaking ability and especially hockey IQ are leaps and bounds ahead of Brown and we've seen that over the past month and change, particularly when he gets a chance to play with skilled wingers.

Beyond +/- being a pretty useless stat I think it's even more useless on this team right now. I know there are many that don't agree but the Sharks goaltending has been horrible since November and I don't put it all on the skaters. Neither goalie has been good enough in my opinion.

I didn't say Tierney's play in December is enough, I said he's been playing quit a bit better. His reward is to get demoted and it wouldn't surprise me if it's for a while.

because it's not up for debate that you can argue tierney has been as big of a drag on his linemates as Mike briwn.

He has spent most of his time with Wingels and split time with nieto/brown. And his point/goal production doesn't really differ between them.

Im not arguing that brown is better for the team than tierney, but I'd rather he work on his game and come back a lot stronger and confident.

I mean..his reward for what? Being slightly better than bad?

Don't disagree about the goaltending but he's still seeing .917 ES sv% behind him. So there is blame to be shared. If he ever wants to be more than a fourth liner he has to score. Same with all of them including hertl. And honestly we are lucky we can still have him work on his game/confidence in the AHL. The rest of these guys have to push through and figure it out or they'll likely get traded.

Since Dec.1 his 5v5 on ice SV% is 85.9.

You see slightly better than bad. I see him as having been pretty good and better than few guys that will be skating tomorrow (oops, Thursday) night.

I don't disagree that he has to score but that's not easy to do when skating with 4th (maybe borderline 3rd) liners and everyone minus Thornton, Pavelski, Marleau & Ward are struggling to score. Though they "need to find a way" I also don't put all of that on the players.

Hopefully he'll gain some confidence playing in the AHL but if he comes back and continues to skate with guys like Zubrus, Brown, Nieto, Wingels chances are he's still probably going to struggle to produce.

I think expectations for Tierney are out of whack, not just among fans but even in the Sharks org, due to what he did at the end of last season. Frankly he's probably never going to score at that kind of pace over a full season in his career. What he's gonna be is a good bottom-six center and he was showing signs of progressing towards that over the past month which is what makes sending him down now so insane, if somewhat understandable due to his waiver-exempt status and the team wanting to do something to "shake things up."

We have too many forwards.

They have 13 forwards on the roster right now (Smith will be the lone healthy scratch), Torres would have made 14.

I have no idea what they're doing with Smith but it's hard to imagine he's long for this team.

I had assumed that Smith was a player right up Deboer's alley so this makes this all sorts of weird.

Maybe we should team together to buy a billboard that says "CALL UP JOAKIM RYAN".

Somewhat ineffective for Edmonton fans, but our teams not a gongshow (yet).

So tierney missed one game and I think with 1-2-3 in 2 games. So I liked that he played more during the week lay off and hopefully got a little more confidence to shoot!

With Torres & Smith with the Barracuda there are too many forwards so Jevpalovs has been assigned to Allen.
