Thornton scored 35+ goals in a season multiple times at the height of the dead puck era. Eklund has never shown that kind of goal scoring potential.

Lekkerimaki = Setoguchi 2.0
so definitely Sharks trade up for Lekkerimaki and pass on a falling top 5 talent
:sarcasm:
(he seems to have a legit shot and hands though)

What's the logic here? It's still too early to tell who is going to be good and most of the kids draft #1-10 are still in the minor or college teams.
He is just joking. I think Eklund will be the best forward from this draft but it is bit concerning that he hasn't scored all year. On the other hand he has 16 assists in 24 games where 9 of the games were NHL-games so his playmaking is definitely there.

He also has been moving across the world for 4 months and hasn’t settled anywhere. Could just be a cold streak from a goal scoring perspective. I’m not worried because he’s still playing really well

Could you imagine a scenario that Eklund has like 3 goals 73 assists, when he finally starts feeling it in NHL
That would be kind of funny. I think Eklund will be just fine, and he will score in NHL. To get his max potential you need to play him with guys that have the scoring touch though.

I'm not too overly concerned. On the PP in his San Jose games, Eklund threatened the shot and he shot it when there was a screen in front. And who do we have that can provide that screen? Weatherbooty!!

Eklund is far too smart and talented to not add the tools he needs to score in the NHL. I have very high hopes from him, he was a joy to watch and he’s a friggin’ baby.

With very few forwards that are playmakers in the system and most of our top prospects not necessarily known for their passing, I’m entirely okay with Eklund not coming in a goal scorer. While this year is a bit worrying, I’m entirely willing to write it off due to the uncertainty and inconsistency around his whole season.

Yeah, like, he’s a child, he’s had to go across the world, earned a spot on an NHL team, got sent back, has had half his games cancelled, travelled to Canada for a tournament, which was also cancelled — I mean, yeah I can’t imagine it’s been easy to settle in and play your game.

Eklund also did well in World Juniors, so that's a very good sign.

That’s not strictly true though. He may have picked up a couple points but I watched all his games and he was a complete non-factor.

I’m as excited about Eklund as anyone but zero goals this season in any league or tournament is extremely concerning.

I don’t think anyone is really saying it’s not concerning. I think everyone is saying there are plenty of very valid reasons why he hasn’t been scoring. I think we all very much hope that changes though.

I actually think it's a bigger problem than most here are willing to admit.

If we want him to be a difference maker in the NHL he can't keep deferring

I see a lot of people saying they aren’t concerned. If Eklund can’t score at juniors or in the SEL, what makes people think he will at the NHL level? I’m sure there’s something going on and this isn’t his true shooting talent, but I’m concerned.

He’s getting all his unluckiness out of the way now.

Ppl shouldn't be concerns with Eklund, we got ourselves a player for the future. He play a lot like Thornton, shift after shift always looking to pass. Tremendous hockey i.q. and elite playmaking and vision. Patience my friend. Needs to get stronger and improve on his burst. Also, change of attitude to become more aggressive. This kid at worst will be a second line player.

The person I'm more concern is Thomas Bordeleau, he float a lot, just waiting to get the pucks. Not fast and can't play defense. He needs another year, those who thinks he is ready are wrong.

Bordeleau might have gotten comfy, because he plays in a very good team. He still gets his point/per game though, but I think it would be great for him to have 1 more season in NCAA as #1 center (If Beniers goes to NHL)

What exactly is he going to learn hockey wise doing that? He needs to start playing against better competition, so he knows what he needs to work on.
