LeBrun saying Bettman would have wanted to give more game to Pinto. Wow

Someone maybe told Gary it might look bad to give Pinto more than he gave the guy who beat the shit out of his girlfriend.

So the exact same number of games seems more in line with NHL standards.

Has anyone considered this might not have happened if he had been with the team instead of f*cking the dog waiting on a contract?

Sounds like it. Andlauer pulling some strings already.
More like the union pulling strings seeing as they had a say in the suspension. Easy out for the league knowing that not allowing a contract to be signed yet ending the suspension after the RFA deadline would put his 10.2 status in jeopardy heading into next year which would be brutally unfair on the SENS and lead to an entirely different sh1tshow between league and team.

Edit- Just getting caught up and see the deadline does not apply to 10.2C. My bad.

Anybody feel like they know what happened definitively at this point? I’ve seen various versions of third parties with implications of some combination of using a proxy bettor, betting on behalf of others or letting others use his account to place bets. Dave Poulin talked about “his buddies”.

The length of both the suspension and the investigation might suggest that somebody bet on NHL games, and it took time to sort out who. Or possibly that Shane created such a risk of future impropriety of the appearance of it that the hammer came down.

Latest timeline I saw was investigation starting early in the summer with the team being informed “closer to training camp”.

There's also the potential that just facilitating proxy betting may have been a violation of state laws, I know NJ doesn't allow it. That could be seen as a pretty big deal, not sure what the repercussions on that end could be.

Just to make it absolutely clear, I'm a big fan of Shane Pinto. He's obviously a smart and engaging young man (very handsome as well). He made a mistake and will serve his punishment and eventually return to the team hopefully better than ever.

THAT BEING SAID

It now comes out that the Senators first learned of the NHL's investigation into Pinto sometime around the start of training camp... around the same time that "reports" were leaking that Dorion was supposedly "lowballing" a young up and coming center for absolutely no reason at all other than he was an incompetent GM and couldn't get a handle on the cap. Really makes you go "hmmm" in retrospect, no?

I really, and truely hate to be 'that guy' in this situation but I do believe some appologies/crow eating are in order

Lmao

Watch any game or pretty much any thing on the tube and you see the public getting hammered with betting sites. Our provincial government pushes gambling commercials down out throats. Gretzky and McDavid arguably two of the best players ever stuff their pockets with gambling commercials. Players wear stickers on helmets advertising gambling. Then Pinto gets caught gambling and the league puts on a halo. No wonder people need those marijuana gummies to get through the day. Living in the twilight zone ain't easy anymore.

I don’t think it has been said we found out about it at the start of camp. It said recently

Whatever the exact details are doesn't really matter.

Pinto is a damned idiot. You don't touch any form of gambling or sports betting with a 10-foot pole if you're a pro athlete. Doubly so if you're a young player that isn't solidly established in the league. If ifs, ands, or buts. You're young, you have money, you have girls, you have fans falling over themselves to please you.....you don't need that one vice of gambling while you're a player.

What the hell was he thinking?

I know that in my 18-25 years all the hockey bros and such played Proline religiously. That was well over a decade ago and before it was as easy as a couple taps on your phone. It's been ingrained in the culture for a long time now. This goes much, much deeper than Shane Pinto I guarantee you. This is only the tip of the iceberg

Why?

We were cap f***ed before he found out. He made it impossible to sign Pinto to a fair deal without having to make a trade before he knew about Pinto being in trouble.

If we found out as training camp started, this does nothing to excuse Dorion's buffoonery.
Sometimes procrastination is the most efficient action. Some problems solve themselves before you fix them. Brilliant inaction by Dorion.

Do you not remember the whole narrative a few weeks back? That "making a trade and freeing capspace" wasn't the issue but other "underlying factors"? People here of course automatically assumed Pinto and his agent had had enough of Dorian and his ineptitude but well, well, well look what eventually comes out.

Always so quick to react but even quicker to forget

He’s a buffoon. But maybe in this case. I mean if he doesn’t sign tarasenko we look pinto now we don’t have senko or pinto lol.

Could be an addiction. No one really knows.

I miss the old sens degens when they like smash a team 6-0.. ski a couple hills and then party. And if they lost they would also go skiing but then the incredibly cliquey locker room would get into a fight on the next plane ride. Those teams were fun and also won a lot of games.

New Sens degens suck and are all friends but still degens

If people abstained from speculating on a contact holdout on a hockey message board until all details were known, there would be no point to having a hockey message board.

I mean sure, but I don't care about narratives and tone policing.

All I see is Dorion getting very lucky that Pinto can't play so a lot of pressure suddenly vanished thanks to Shane being an idiot.

None of this suspension mess sheds any light on anything Dorion did this summer that might explain why Dorion completely bungled managing cap. Had he known about the investigation during the summer, prior to signing Tarasenko, then yeah, he'd look a lot better.

However we are being told Dorion found out about this in September, a while after getting cap f***ed.

Contract negotiations? That's a whole lot of white noise, I suggest people don't pay much attention to "this is what they offered and the player is angry etc." or "it turns out Pinto actually wants 3 million per!".
