My bet its on hockey and the NHL let him off lightly
I'm guessing that the issue isn't that Pinto bet on hockey, but that someone associated with Pinto bet on hockey and placed bets for Ottawa on games where certain key players became healthy (cough, Norris, cough) before it was announced and against Ottawa for games where key players were out before it became public knowledge, allowing the bettor to play with unfair odds.

If it happened more than once or twice, that would very quickly become suspicious, and I'd be shocked if betting sites didn't have some kind of tracker for bettors who bet right before significant odds shifts (for potential insider betting)

This could be the catalyst that most have been waiting for as an excuse for the new ownership to clean house completely & start with a new slate. I don't think it is anyone's fault just a young guy doing something stupid & got caught, but it could result in wholesale changes across the board here. What that does for the on-ice product is unknown & whether it affects the team in one way or the other, but it makes everyone's jobs that much harder now.

How would those 2 things be connected?

With so many calling for changes behind the bench & with the GM new ownership can't be immune to the noise in this city. I'm not saying it is right or should be done, I'm thinking it's a situation that may push them to do something. The Formenton situation still isn't cleared up & now we have Pinto & then there was the cap situation. Sooner or later they could just say let's wipe our hands clean of the past & start anew whether that is right or wrong, it's looking forward. A new story may take people's minds off the old story is all I'm saying & change the subject.

I think the rumour out there is that he passed inside info to some in the gambling world. Because it's being speculated that it was INSIDE info it must be about the NHL, very possibly to do with the Sens.

Could be a combo / bundle type of bet where hockey games were included in the bundle

Maybe if we had more front office staff, someone could have told the players not to do these things.
Ok, but let's not let players off the hook here. It is not solely management's responsibility for this awareness. Every team has NHLPA rep(s) who should ensure players are aware of the PA's collective agreement they agreed to and signed, including code of conduct clauses. Agents also have skin in the game given the contract they negotiate and review on behalf of the player. Lots of cooks in this kitchen.

I am sure the details will come out and they probably arent great for Pinto.

But its highly amusing that someone gets this STEEP of a suspension for a league that does nothing but diahrea gambling ads all over their product.

One day someone is going to die from a hockey related incident. And the players going to get 15 game suspension while this gets a 41.

Or that whole Chicago situation...

That was 1000 times worse than this and we don't even need the details to say that.

This speculative news was only put out there to cheer fans up from the devastating Pinto news.

Pinto caught gambling and is suspended. Pierre does a little dance. Supporters glow.
Rumors about Dadonov NTC not being divulged resurfaces; Pierre on shaky ground; Chiarelli never looked better; Connections to Claude Julien reemerge.

Nailed it.

Wouldn't the league have reviewed and approved any trade for terms?
One would think any competent business would have procedures in place to avoid this type of situation but apparently neither the team not the league did, read into that what you will
