a pro rated amount is what i suspect happens

the good news here is that we can sign two contracts at the same time...a cheapie 23-24 contract and a 2nd contract for however many years to square up the cheapie deal...kinds works out like a backloaded deal
I just hope there isn't a "well I got paid only half year on a cheap deal do I expect my bridge to make up for it" mentality. I expect some show me bridges like 875k x 1 y, then 2M x 1-2 y.

Kinda the Brannstrom route.

It sounds more like he was giving his friends a heads up on certain things so they could bet on hockey.

If there was evidence that he was profiting from someone betting on NHL games, I think the suspension would be much harsher.
True.. either way he made the decision knowing full well that it was not legal. In turn, it hurts the team big time. It'll be interesting to see what the team offers him now.

Okay, I get it. So imo the blame lies with both parties in that case, but I see what you mean with the govt being the ones that allowed those ads to be aired.
The reason you are seeing so many gambling ads now in Ontario is because these betting sites paid the Ontario government heaps of money to operate in Ontario. The only thing they get out of the deal is they get to advertise. With how much the likely pay to operate in Ontario I would be spamming the shit out of my betting site as well.

To me its just hilarious that daily fantasy sports has been closed off to Ontario residents. Dfs is the best way to get people engaged in sports and watching sports especially things like Red Zone and the NHLs new RedZone like thing. I love dfs it was so much fun making lineups and watching all the games.

I'm not a pro gambling person I think sports betting and gambling in general is stupid it has ruined so many peoples lives that I know personally, however for people like myself that can control their gambling it just sucks that the only thing in Ontario you can gamble on is things where you likely have no edge and will go broke.

The government made deals with pokersites that closed off global player pools and have such ridiculous rake structures with no bonuses for players making it impossible to be a long term winner in these poker sites. Basically the government "legalized" gambling that you cannot win at.

This will probably ruin the team-player relationship. You doubt that Ottawa management cares that he made a bonehead move that prevents him from helping his teammates out for half a season? Obviously we are awaiting the details, but it sounds like he was betting on hockey through a proxy.
I doubt it unless they found out he was betting related to the team in a negative way.

If he put down a lot of money on the Sens to win the Cup last year, I don't think they would be that upset.

Eh the team's on-ice play over the past 6 years is the proof.

Hopefully we go 3-1 over the next four so it's not a miserable start to the season, again.
On-ice play throughout a rebuild is proof?

A rebuild is not judged on the on-ice play during the rebuild. A rebuild is judged on the core of players on the team coming out of the rebuild.

That sounds like circumvention. I believe that Ottawa would need to sign him now then re-sign him then.

You might be right it may have come down it used to be in the 10-15% range which is absurd. I doubt any sports agent is doing it for 3% though
a min salary guy is 750 k roughly

3% is roughly 23 K.. to call a gm, to say; yes to his offer. To review a standard league contract which is now decades old.

now you offer money management services at a further fee.. you are at 30-50 k from a min wage guy.

stable of 10 guys is 300-500 k to your firm.. min wage guys.

Now by the time you get to Austin Mathews, you are at 600 K- 1M from one guy.

at 5% you are raking it in.

get on the NHL site for approved agents.. Many

Well, the core players coming from that rebuild collapsed last season and just got punked in two consecutive games against the teams they're supposed to be ahead of.

Some people think a rebuild is 10 years.

Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk are almost the same age as Erik Karlsson and Mark Stone were when they were traded. Time flies. Time to win some games.

I doubt it unless they found out he was betting related to the team in a negative way.

If he put down a lot of money on the Sens to win the Cup last year, I don't think they would have felt the same.
Man.. if you delay the team bus they tend to scratch you. Imagine not being able to help your team out at Center for half the year because you were involved in gambling. I think management is pretty fired up about it.. probably some of his teammates too. Anyway, just my opinion. :thumbu:

Ya there definitely appears to be more to it than I understand and sounds shady. I'll defer to you lol. I haven't gambled in at least a decade, but the ads do get my mind thinking about and considering it, so I'm sure it works on a lot of people to bombard them with the idea. I heard all about how my grandpa ruined the family's fortune at the horse track though and got a son to feed, so I'll probably never dive in.

I bet all those fans cheering we want Pinto feel pretty foolish right now ....

I don't think so.

Besides, we still would have been better off signing Pinto in the summer. Even if he got suspended during camp, his cap hit would have been off the books for the suspension, but at least he would've been locked in.

Based on Lebrun's tweets, it doesn't sound like Pinto will be signing before his suspension ends, so the inflated cap hit if we want to sign him mid-season will still be a problem.

Yes, it seems like it. Maybe I have a bad memory, but I can't think of many examples of where a player began half way through the season and what the resulting contract looked like.

The 2023-24 contract could be for as low as $437k ($874k divided by 2). I'll assume that they could bank enough cap space by Game 2 to do that contract, although I'm not certain about that and its an important detail.

I'd also think that the 2nd contract would need to be considerably larger (maybe around $1.5 m larger or more perhaps) to make up for the money lost in the first contract.

no, not at all.

He's not eligible to play until mid January so there's no rush to sign a 23-24 contract. He's eligible to sign a long term extension as of January 1. S

Wouldn't you have both conversations at the same time?

This doesn't seem to make sense though. Wouldn't the team only stand to benefit from signing him now? Would it be Pinto wanting to wait?

Sports betting is the worst, you have no edge, and people who parlay will always be longterm losers. Closing off DFS which is gambling but its gambling that won't kill you longterm, and you can play for small amounts and have tons of fun doing it. The fact our government endorses sports betting and not gambling that won't bankrupt people is predatory and disgusting.

In regards to your post, don't gamble it's f***ing stupid, ya its fun to have a sweat once inawhile but I know so many people who have gambled away everything. I know guys with great jobs who blow all their money betting on whatever, nfl, NHL, NBA, MLB, PGA, horses, badminton, Russian bear wrestling, whatever just because they need a fix.

25 dollars will get you good fun in DFS 25 dollars in sports betting will force you to make stupid bets because otherwise the winnings are too small. This forces people the bet bigger and bigger

Would likely be Pinto.

Makes no difference to him if he signs now or in Jan if they are only offering him the QO, as Garrioch reported

He isn't getting paid while suspended, and if they're offering him the minimum, what's the point of signing it?

Sarcasm friend...

I want Pinto to play as much as anyone here but for those of us who have day jobs.

We have a code of conduct we have to adhere too to keep that job and there is no grey areas with regards to that. It's called reality.

Pinto didn't adhere to his,

Thank F for Ridley.
