Again, you no longer need to worry about the negative implications of a split deal a la lebanc, he can't get a career ending injury before signing deal two, or at least the chances are really low

So at this point, conceeding the QO deal for year one allows you more leverage since the team can no longer use this year's cap as justification for not giving you more.
Conceding what?

Pinto very well may be looking for a multi year deal now. He very well may be looking for more than the Sens are, or plan on, offering him later this year.

We have no clue what they are offering, we have no clue if they are planning on making it up to him, that's just a made up scenario that's been run with here.

They rescinded all offers today, so if they knew they were still trying to sign him
Of course they still wanted to sign him. They likely knew about the investigation but didn’t know for sure what the punishment would be. Worst case they still needed him signed so the suspension could start asap and he could still play in the second half of the season.

Makes a lot more sense why the offer would be a modest raise in a one year deal, and why the team was very slow/hesitant/not willing to move out a player to fit him in.

They pulled the offers because he has absolutely no leverage now and can’t even start his suspension until he has a contract. QO it is.

How much cap space is accumulated with Pinto out if he gets onto the roster Game 42? Someone mentioned $96k.

Is it enough, or would they still have to send a player down to the AHL?

None in the best case scenario.

Worst case scenario his cap hit will be up to 50% more expensive this year

Where did you here they rescinded offers? And why would they. I mean he gambled in sports. He didn’t…you know…team Canada stuff
Because they were higher offers to get him signed before the investigation was done.

Now the investigation is done and they know the penalty. They don’t need to offer him anything above his QO now, and he can’t start serving his suspension until he signs.

He can’t resume his NHL career until his suspension is done, so all pressure is now on Pinto to take what’s offered and start the clock.

I doubt it. They were apparently close to a deal. They already know what they value the player at, now it's just about making it all fit in the cap.

What was true yesterday isn't always true today.

Getting suspended for gambling and missing half the season will affect how the team values the player.

Some are saying that because Pinto is suspended, he is not paid (& no cap hit) for his suspended games. It's something about an off-ice infraction rule that's in the CBA.

Seravelli (I think) said they had all but agreed on a 2.2 x2 deal.

They both know what they want, what they feel they are worth. This may open up the opportunity to go longer than two years combined, but I suspect Pinto will want to play some games and increase his value rather than get more term now.

Anything is possible, but it sounds very much like the negotiations weren't as acrimonious as some suspected. The current situation alleviates the biggest concern with the split contract scheme, Wich outside of the risk associated with injuries provided a solution where both parties get what they want.

Sports betting is the worst, you have no edge, and people who parlay will always be longterm losers. Closing off DFS which is gambling but its gambling that won't kill you longterm, and you can play for small amounts and have tons of fun doing it. The fact our government endorses sports betting and not gambling that won't bankrupt people is predatory and disgusting.

In regards to your post, don't gamble it's f***ing stupid, ya its fun to have a sweat once inawhile but I know so many people who have gambled away everything. I know guys with great jobs who blow all their money betting on whatever, nfl, NHL, NBA, MLB, PGA, horses, badminton, Russian bear wrestling, whatever just because they need a fix.

25 dollars will get you good fun in DFS 25 dollars in sports betting will force you to make stupid bets because otherwise the winnings are too small. This forces people the bet bigger and bigger
I started a few years ago, and I agree 100%. You can't win.

The ONLY exception is if you take advantage of deposit bonuses. The past 4 seasons I've either turned a small profit or broken even on the season. But you have to roll over 5x times before you can withdraw. If you do the math: If the book's cut in the odds is roughly 20%, and you have to roll over 5x the deposit + bonus, then in theory, if you take only 50/50 bets where you flip a coin, you'll end up breaking even exactly.

So, for example, I would deposit $300, the book would match, so I would have $600 to bet with for the season. I would have to make $3000 worth of bets. After that, I'd usually have something like $500 left over. I'd pull the original $300 out (sometimes $400 if I did really well that year), then I'd bet on a couple cup winners and go nuts of games with the rest of the cash, usually losing the rest.

I really enjoy it because I watch way more hockey than I did before, instead of just watching Sens games. I know way more about other teams than I used to.

You just have to be really disciplined, and recognize that sports betting is "a game", and not "a way to get rich".

I want Pinto to play as much as anyone here but for those of us who have day jobs.

We have a code of conduct we have to adhere too to keep that job and there is no grey areas with regards to that. It's called reality.

Pinto didn't adhere to his,

Thank F for Ridley.
Maybe I'm not high up enough on the food chain, but I've never had a job with a "code of conduct" other than confidentiality agreements. They basically just don't want me to break the law in egregious fashion, but even something like a DUI hasn't gotten people booted from the places I've worked as long as they can still get there.

Who's starting the thread for this one?
Just wait til we see the punishment if there's anything related to Team Canada stuff.

At this rate we either need to start winning the Cup ASAP, or start a new rebuild.

Are there any lemon out clauses in team sales? Semi honest here. If these issues were pending and were not disclosed to new ownership before the sale, how would that work out?

His suspension started game 1 of the season.

I open up TSN.ca to see Pinto's face and got all excited thinking he finally signed a contract. Now this!!!

Wtf f*** is going on?!?! Unbelievable amount of bad judgement by Pinto. What you are doing kid? It's almost unbelievable...I wonder who blew the whistle on him

You are correct. You cannot win at gambling without favorable bonus structures or getting really lucky with bad bets. If you want to watch hockey with some juice, I recommend playing DFS on OwnersBox. The prize pools are very small compared to DraftKings and Fanduel, which are no longer available in Ontario, but DFS is way more fun to watch hockey with than sports betting. I really only place a sports bet when I see a line that I think is incorrect. I put heavy money on Sanderson when he was promoted to PP1 because his odds didn't change from when he was on PP2. I also once in a while bet on a player who has been in a slump, but I certainly don't bet on sports regularly.

Seems the book flagged him and reported him to the NHL. Likely came up in some kind of network analysis.
