Weekes: LA Kings Brandt Clarke on the move?

Would Blake use Clarke as the trade chip to acquire Byram?

Kings have ran Anderson-Gavrikov all season, and I think Mikey Anderson is a bit miscast as a top pairing d-man with Doughty. Byram there would give the Kings a pretty solid 1-6 defense.
It’s something that could make some sense. Buffalo basically has to trade Byrum or give him a long term deal, and that decision has to be made quickly. Something you would think he’d already have, but doesn’t.

They cannot allow him to go to arbitration this summer. If he does, he’ll control his exit from Buffalo, while getting paid big, over the next 1-2 years. Which will effect his value big time.

Getting Clarke in a deal for him now, is basically pushing a big contract down the line, assuming Clarke becomes Byrum or better.

The problem is, it doesn’t really help Buffalo now, and they’re not really looking at downgrading the current roster. So it would probably be down the list of what they’d want in return for Byrum, but possible if they don’t like other offers.

I still say it would be a big mistake trading Clarke now, and they better get someone with great upside if they do. The concern with Clarke we’re starting to hear though, is the Kings might not think he can ever “carry” a pairing in the NHL, and his ceiling might only be Byrum, or even Gostisbehere. If that’s the case, the Kings would probably take the trade straight-up and enjoy Byrum. They’ll have to pay him though, and it won’t be cheap.

It just sucks for the Kings because it looked like he was ready to take that next step like Edvinsson has, but he’s just hit a wall. He’s firmly the 4th of those Top 10 Dmen from the 2021 draft now. So best thing they can do right now, is send him down for a month and work on his D coverage. Just look at it as a hiccup in his development and hope when he returns to the NHL, he’s taken that next step.

You need to remove Leafs from your header with stupid comments like that
Lmfao. I love this team but the overpaid 4 are some of the most unlikable players to ever suit up for the franchise. Bent the team over the barrel every chance they could, just to disappear every playoff. f*** them, the team will be less embarrassing to cheer for when they're gone

Byfield + Clarke for Power + Cozens? It could, potentially make sense for both clubs.
So a 2nd overall and 8th overall for a 1st overall and 7th overall. Seems doable. Though where they were drafted doesn't matter (too soon?), maybe the Kings would throw in a 5th rounder.

You can leave your badge on the way out of the club house. Ridiculous, hyperbolic statements. Literally 3 of the best players to ever wear the uniform. And the 4th actually left money in the table to sing with them.

I dont think you realize how pathetic that makes the franchise sound. There's undoubtedly some legends that cringe when they see the soft, loser hockey those 4 play
They are 3 of the top 20-25 players in the NHL right now, and for the last few years. Wendell Clark and Doug Gilmour were literally interviewed last week during the intermission and stated that these 3 are 3 of the greatest Leafs ever. Marner at the age of 27 is the fastest Leaf ever to 700 assists passing Sittler in about 80 less games. Matthews within the next 50 games or so will be the All time leading goal scorer by the age of 28. Nylander in the next year or two will be in the top 3 as well.

How is that an insult to anyone? They literally are 3 of the best to ever wear the sweater.
