I like 66, Gives a middle finger to Pemguins fans which i’m always okay with.
People still wear #4 and #9. You shouldn’t have a claim on a number.

I respect the NHL for retiring #99 league wide but it has now created instances like this.

f*** that lmao.

Well nobody else has worn it...must be some reason.

99 was in deference to Gordie and 66 was hot on the heals as the next big thing. He will be a target with 66...what would he be trying to prove?

I agree it's incredibly disrepectful for anyone to wear Phillips number league wide.

I'd love if he wore 66, though it probably isn't worth the attention it would bring him. If people can wear 9 and 4, they can sure as hell wear 66 lol. Are we gonna have to unofficially retire 87 and 97 too? f*** that.

That's always what I think to myself whenever people say you shouldn't wear 66 and 99. What about 4 for Orr and even 9 for Richard. Both guys that defined their time and made history. I feel like 66 and 99 stick out and that's why people try to refrain from using them but other than that who cares.

If you can live with people chirping you every time you hit the ice and you're comfortable with that then wear whatever you want IMO.

But I would bet money that Pinto won't take 66, it'll be 12 for sure.

I’d love to see Pinto between Tkachuk and Paul for a couple games.

Anyone can wear it, they just don't.

You guys must understand that numbers have gotten more and more important. Comparing to 9 or 4 doesn't make sense.

It really started with Gretzky and then when Lemieux followed those 2 numbers came with certain expectations.

Who else wears 87 or 97 right now? Who else comes in to the league with even 88?

I won't care if Pinto wears 66 but I will be very surprised and it will be a burden as he will need to answer for over and over.

What is the exact quote? Was he even serious?
