Yesterday Button compared Pinto to Copp from the Jets. Fair compare? Copp's stats in Winnipeg below.

That's a realistic floor for Pinto IMO. From what I can tell Pinto has a bit more offensive tools to work with, he'll get points from his one-timer on the PP. I also think Pinto will play with better players than Copp did in Winnipeg and have better opportunity.

I understand the comparison, two guys who dedicated to hockey kinda late who produced well in key roles in the NCAA. Both guys who play hard hockey with good fundamentals, same position and size. In the end I think Pinto has more to work with and will be a better offensive player.

if Pinto can become consistent 50 pts player for us (25G, 25A) annually I will be happy.

I assume he means Copp 20-21 (25g 35a = 60 pts) not Copp 2016 - 2020. (12g 22a = 34p)

Copp might have developed quicker if he hadn't stagnated with a third year in the NCAA.

Give him a couple of seasons before he lands as a middle 6 center. We need to be patient with Pinto given his age. He is also a shoot first center, so getting him a playmaking winger will be important. Given the way he plays D though, we could see him land in the bottom 6 and work his way up the lineup, much like Fisher and Vermette did. His upside is likely in the Fisher mold, as a score first center who plays great D. He might have a bit higher hockey IQ than Fish, but also doesn't skate as well. Will be fun to watch him develop.

3C is a perfect spot for Pinto in a Fisher type roll. He is exactly the type of player this org needs to drive the bottom 6.

Given his age? He's 21 at the start of next season, After a couple seasons, he'll be 23. I'm not saying we need to insert him right away into our lineup, but he's not super young.

He's 2-3 years younger than guys like Logan Brown and Vitali Abramov, who are still finding their way to the NHL. He is 2 years younger than Batherson, who is just now a full time NHLer this season. These are comparable prospects.

So I'm not sure why we'd expect Pinto to be an obvious candidate to fast track. He has a chance given the quality of his draws and defensive play as a 4th line center, but it's a big jump from the NCAA to the AHL, let alone NHL. His skating is also not amazing, which is another reason it takes time.

That fastest track would probably be following Norris' path of one full AHL season where he is dominant for a full year, in which case you give him a look and a chance to make the team sooner. But that is not the typical path, so I wouldn't use Norris as an "Expectation", although you certainly give Pinto every chance in Belleville to thrive and succeed in terms of ice time and linemates.

We haven't exactly rushed our prospects since this rebuild started. I'm sure they'll slot him where it's best for him next year.

It may well be that Pinto is a better prospect than Brown or Abramov, or a more likely NHL player

I don’t think either side of this equation is unrealistic. In the end the player will play his way into Belleville or Ottawa.

Logan Brown and Pinto will be competing for different rolls on the team.

I think my expectations for Pinto are higher than most.

I watched a UND game earlier this season where he was beyond dominant. When he is on, he's absolutely everywhere. Everything he touched turned into a dangerous offensive chance.

People see two-way player and assume the offence is lacking. But I think he's got the goods, and he just keeps getting better. Same with Sandy.

I see a 3C but I think he has a chance to be one fo the best 3C’s in the league that will help the team win vs the Tierney/White types we’ve been rolling at 3C.

I'm hoping the playmaking/possession develops a bit more and we get a poor man's Anze Kopitar.
