His hockey IQ is absurd, you watch him and it’s like of course that’s the right play….every…single…time.
He’s also a really under rated skater.

Amazing. Though to be fair you could see immediately in the 12 games last year.

Yes and these 12 games were actually a confirmation of what we could in College/WJC.

The development curve Pinto has been on the last 2 years is simply astounding. It can be explained by the fact that he only started taking hockey seriously at 15 y/o. He keeps getting better and better at an alarming rate. His faceoff ability looks simply ridiculous and his one-timer ability looks deadly. He looks pretty smart out there and like a complete player already. Pretty good physique on top of everything.

Then a few other takes in May (polls board) :

If you watched Pinto enough in the NCAA, WJC and NHL, then you could have an idea of the player he should/could become. That's how you could decide to take him over the other. Doesn't mean the other guy is going to be crap whatsoever

Pretty good assessment and we know it's really not linear so there's no guarantee he'll be as good next season but the way he looked was extremely impressive for a green 20 y/o rookie. Not as flashy as a guy like Caufield but extremely efficient defensively and was making things happen all over the ice. It was like watching a young Mark Stone breaking in, but at center.

Danault is a great 2-way center, MacKinnon said recently that he's one of the hardest players to play against. So I could see this with Pinto. Both are pretty good on face-offs, Pinto could even be elite in that aspect.

However, chances are high that Pinto ends up significantly better offensively. First, have you seen Pinto's one timer in College? Underrated playmaking and top notch hockey sense. This is a guy that started taking hockey seriously at 15 y/o... maybe he's just scratching the surface.

And yeah, people thinking Pinto is a "2nd/3rd line player" at best haven't followed his crazy development curve. It reminds me a bit of 3rd liner Josh Norris who was still labeled like that after he dominated the AHL last year at 20 y/o. Seems like the label is finally starting to go away.

Trade?!?!?!?!

Nah sent down in the AHL "to work on things" as DJ calls it as Tierney solidified his position as 2C by scoring that phantom goal last night. Actually think he is just having a maintenance day as he has been working a lot since dev/rookie camps.

And no, I won't trade Pinto for Eichel.

I normally consider myself straight but Pinto is a good looking dude.
I know you are joking but it is normal to be straight and still find someone of the same sex good looking - happens all the time!

That said, we have our new Fisher and Redden except both are F in Batherson and Pinto.

And yes, how in the world was even considered a thing from some that his skating is a weakness? Dude is a bull on his skates and have plenty of speed.

f*** I can only imagine how awkward the break room is with him around, especially as a senior staff member.

I have a feeling that TV Pierre McGuire and office Pierre McGuire are very different people.

And I say that based on listening to him on TSN1200 when he used to do morning shows, and his radio personality was night and day from what you saw on TV.

What’s crazy is that this kid was available in the 2nd round.

I remember hearing post draft day Mann told Dorion on the spot “I either take Shane Pinto or I f#[{^*g quit!”

And Dorion did the right thing... Thank God.

He was the first player selected in the second round. Senators had a whole night to discuss this pick and not have to worry about what another team does. The scouts got it right.

I was cheesed at the pick originally thought here we go again with another safe third liner maybe even a second line C prospect. Now I am the biggest Pinto fanboy see him as the future #1 on this team.

This forum hated the pick and torched Dorion …

I didn’t hate it at all. Though my stance is always to wait and see…

Not gonna lie though, waiting for Brady to sign has me irritated.

No … you didn’t … that post day one into day 2 draft recount is available for everyone to rehash. It follows the lines of the forum loving the White signing, hating the EK trade etc etc .

It's because it sets precedent for a lot of our guys, even though Bath signed a team friendly deal.

Totally true, and I’m not really taking any sides, don’t want to get invested in millionaires vs billionaires lol. It’s solely based on me being personally inconvenienced by not having a player that I want to watch being with the team yet.

Irrational and petty, and also undeniably irritating! Ah, the life of a sports fan.

Glad someone else noticed, as no one talks about his skating. There was one particular charge last night that actually surprised me as well!

I've always hated the Bergeron comparison that gets thrown at every talented young center with a semblance of a defensive game. Heard it with White and now even Greig, which is just silly.

But in Pinto's case Bergeron is a good comparable stylistically with his elite IQ, fantastic stick and advanced defensive game. Not a reasonable expectation as far as potential, however. I mean we're talking about arguably the best defensive center ever here.

Also worth pointing out that at Pinto's age Bergeron already had two 70 point seasons on his resume, so it's overly optimistic to think he'll put up the kind of numbers Bergeron has over his career, but I think 50-60P is achievable. With everything he brings to the table that would make him low-end #1 center quality.

50-60 points with elite underlying stats(defensive and shutdown ability, faceoffs, corsi) is middle of the pack in terms of number 1 C impact, imo. Think O'Reilly before his cup run. And, imo, Pinto has potential to post 70 in his peak. Will be hard-pressed to reach it, but been blown away by him thus far, and I tracked him like crazy last year.

Ya Bergeron came in and just dominated right away...nice group around him too.

Pinto should have good support and if they find a spot for him on the left dot on the PP I think we see some decent point totals.

Don't care about comparisons now though, just want him to reach his potential and keep being around the puck every shift.
