He should have just end someones career and suffer 0 to 20 games.
I don't see the point in comparing something like this with player safety. Totally different issues.

I 100% agree that suspensions should be harsher on dirty hits though, if that's what you're saying.

That's kind of a no no as well. Stirring the pot up isn't a good idea and again if nothing comes of it you are in big trouble.

That and not everything a player says or does people are going to find out about it. I don't think the insiders are phoning betting companies on a daily basis asking for intel. And I highly doubt the league was letting this slip until it was dealt with.

You obviously have never read anything produced by the hockey media.

So weird how hurt and protective people seem to be over a grown man breaking a rule and getting punished for it. Does your employer not have rules for your conduct?

It would help if we knew what the rule Pinto is being punished for breaking. Fans care about why players are suspended half a season.

If it wasn’t betting on NHL games, then what was it? What else isn’t allowed?

A three sentence explanation and then saying “the matter is closed, no more comments” isn’t going to work here. All this will lead to is endless speculation and rumors.

And the hypocrisy of endlessly shilling for sports books during games doesn’t help here.

I do. We as fans should be pointing out the hypocrisy with Bettman's NHL every chance we get.

We should be outraged that a hit that takes out our favorite player results in a suspension a fraction in length compared to something that only might affect bookies and the NHL's bottom line.

No thanks. The Sens will gladly welcome back their young 20 goal centre for a pro-rated $875,000 (his QO) for the last 41 games of the season, and possibly at a relatively low price for next season too as he has no leverage.

At 875K, he will easily fit under the cap as another low-paid player will be sent to the AHL. 21 man roster will be intact.
Are you sure that the environment will help him heal and learn from this mistake. I think the way the team has treated him likely drove him to being distressed and then making bad decisions. Poor guy would be best off in Vancouver. But we can be paying too much for a distressed asset and he needs time to work on himself and self reflect.

My question is this...how does the NHL find out about one of their players gambling? Does Draftkings tattle on them? Lol

I like this post. A lot. Its obvious Bettman is in bed with the bookies. But I really think if all the details come out, the NHL would be looking awfully stupid/petty.

One small clarification, if the Sens had stricter team rules than the NHL, it'd be on them to suspend him and not the league.

From 1 of the statements some bets were flagged and it was brought to the NHL's attention

I don’t see how this matters outside of betting on NHL games but maybe in his ignorant… can someone rationalize the logic?

I am thinking Pinto was passing inside info related to the sens to a 3rd party who would then make the bets and Shane would get a cut.

I dont know, but sounds like sharing some inside information for people who used it for betting.

And looking at the penalty and the quick acceptance, it must have been pretty blatant.

I'm curious if there is ANYONE out there that finds it ironic that the NHL is suspending a player for gambling while also showing advertisements for gambling? Surprised this has not come up yet.
oh I see it, but I'm a leafs fan and need that cap to rise so I will fall on that hypocrisy sword here lol

Why is everyone defending him but when Evander Kane did the same thing he should have never played again lol You’re a pro athlete you don’t need to bet leave it to us poor degenerates to do all the betting

See that would be really bad

Wonder if we will get my details
Bad in what sense? The bookies literally set their lines using insider info. As a hockey fan I'm all for someone using insider info against the bookies.

Now if he were out there sandbagging and making money off the Sens losing, that would be bad. Really bad.

The insider info is only bad in the eyes of the bookies, who will complain to the NHL, and the NHL will jump through whatever hoops needed because of how much money the bookies spend on NHL advertising
