What do they have?

A regular season superstar with significant injury concerns, erratic playoff performances and a history of crippling contract demands and a few poor off-ice decisions.

Am I missing anything?

Everything

But that doesn't surprise me.

Another executive with no experience.

Tanenbaum must know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody.

He needs to find somebody. Who can find somebody else. Who can find somebody that knows what the hell they are doing.

Because Shanahan clearly has no clue, none, whatsoever, on how to run an NHL team.

This isn't how you run a hockey team ffs. That's not to say I could do any better. But I don't get paid millions of dollars to run a multi-billion dollar NHL franchise.

Shanahan does.

Except he's not doing a very good job. Maybe it is all about the money. Because everybody knows, this team, as constructed, is a loser.

But hey, ML$E has a vault that rivals Scrooge McDucks. Meanwhile the fans keep getting bent over a barrel taking it up the dookie chute. Paying $22 for two slices of pizza and $7 for a water.

The only thing Leafs related I bought this year was a 2023 calendar that had Freddy Anderson as February.

Yes, that's right, you read that correct. Says everything you need to know about how ML$E views their fans. Says a lot about fans like me too.

The way I see it, if you're still supporting this team financially, you're part of the problem.

You would think being called a loser by the "greatest fan base in the world" would invite Tanenbaum to make change. Nope, not Tanenbaum, he's having none of that. Maybe if the golden goose produced less eggs that might work instead.

Absolute disgrace for an owner.

Loser.

Signed,

A Member Of The "Greatest Fan Base In The World"
Hit them where it hurts
...financially...eventually they'll get it

We are going bigger and heavier on a back end
Good start...

He can only do that if you let him, Tree had better of talked to every counterpart to see what can be had if his demands are stupid……..
I agree 100% & will eat crow if he stays but I'm convinced theres more than 1 team out there that'll give him a huge, long term contract in the US of A ...where I am convinced he wants to return to. Look at what Dubas did with the Pens....you dont think that was ironed out months ago....heck for all I know Dubas may have already promised him the world (mere speculation)

There has to be feelers out there, even if it’s just your plan B

I have nothing against Doan; I was a huge fan of his. Character guy who showed up to play and played hardnosed blue collar hockey. He also has the hockey ops chops with the Yotes and Hockey Canada.

That said, if the hire is merely for Matthews thats really bad. We shouldn't be bending over backwards for a select few players, it just sends the wrong message across the dressing room especially when the said player doesn't seem to show up in the playoffs. I got nothing against Matthews; he is my fav Leaf but... it always has been and will be about the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS as far as I am concerned. Matthews is an excellent player, elite player but not generational IMO. There are other players on other teams that put up the same numbers as Matthews all the time. Matthews isn't McDavid.

I really hope the Doan hire is more about adding hockey personnel with hockey ideas and less about keeping matthews. if it helps Matthews' re-signing thats great (at a reasonable cap hit 12.5 at max); but the hire shouldn't solely be to re-sign matthews.
It definitely is. Sure, Matthews idolised Doan growing up, but Treliving also knows him as a great hockey mind.

He is also here for Knies' development. For this alone I think this is a very good hiring.

I know exactly what we have in Matthews.

He is Tarzan in the regular season and Jane in the playoffs. And that's a major problem.
It’s the sum of the parts. Look what changing teams with men having your back did for Eichel.
Matthews needs a new group. Less boys flanking him.

Mathews is not the generational player we thought we were drafting .
He's not a leader
We have the wrong core.
Eichel isn’t the Captain of Vegas, Stone is. There is a group of men there.

We’ve had Marleau, Tavares, Marner and Nylander as the most skilled backups. None of these guys are Batman. All Robin. And Shambles.

They can all change as far as I’m concerned.

I've got it, I know how to solve this dead end alley the boy genius(no wonder he backed out of a just about done deal!) left our Bud's in.

OK here goes, seeing as the Leafs are asking big ol ' loyal34 who the coach can be, who his linemates have to be, probably even how much to pay the UFAs that want to come back. Just give him a 3 year deal at 20m as special assistant to the president, management consultant for player personnel, and player coach.

Now his standard PC will also be 3yrs with an NMC worth 13.34 aav, plus Shanny has to kiss his arse at centre ice at the start of any Leafs home playoff game going forward.

The Leafs aren't asking 34 who the coach can be or who his line mates have to be, and certainly not how much money to pay UFAs. The team will just negotiate and see if they can come to a deal.
