I really think Keefe is way out of his depth when it comes to critical games in the playoffs.
Thats why I am all for Trotz to come in.

2019-20
Keefe .. lost in play-in in round #1 loss to CBJ in 5
Trotz .. lost in round #3 in game #6 score 2-1 to Tampa Bay .. Lightning win Cup #1

2020-21
Keefe .. lost in round #1 to lowest ranked playoff team Montreal after leading series 3-1
Trotz .... lost in round #3 in game #7 score 1-0 to Tampa Bay ... Lightning win Cup #2 (TB had a +$20 cap advantage due LTIR)

2021-22
Keefe .. lost in round #1 in game 7 score 2-1 to Tampa Bay.

Barry Trotz lost 2 X in round #3 to TB the eventual Cup winners, once against a cap circumventing team and that meant nothing. while Keefe loses in round #1 and claims respected earned in handshake line and completely safe.

Over the last 3 seasons overlapping coaching seasons Trotz has 8 series wins and Keefe has 8 playoff games wins.

When Dubas was asked if he considered a veteran coach like Trotz .. "Thought never even entered his mind, like how the competed against Tampa Bay, and in 10-15 years fans will realize Keefe will be viewed similar to a legendary coach like Trotz" ..

Where on the planet is a 1st round loss to Tampa Bay more job security and job performance praise, then a pair of round #3 losses to the same team the went on to win the Cup?

That can’t be an actual quote verbatim right?? He did not say that. Did he??

Aside from all the nonsense filler you decided to add in there, the point is both teams lost to Tampa. Look around at the other teams playing, only Colorado and Tampa are playing at the same level, we played at that level, the pacific and metro dividisonal rounds were/have been so far awful hockey.

Maple Leafs’ Shanahan confirms Dubas, Keefe will return for 2022-23 season

Chatter around the team’s coaching staff has swelled of late not only because of the Maple Leafs’ string of first-round exits extending one more year, but also because of the calibre of bench bosses to recently hit the market.

Asked Tuesday whether he’s considered what the impact could be of adding a veteran coach like Barry Trotz or Pete DeBoer — both of whom were relieved of their duties by their former NHL clubs this month — Dubas said he hasn't considered moving on from Keefe for a more veteran voice.

“It hasn’t crossed my mind, and I think my reason for that is my belief in Sheldon and the job that he’s done here so far,” the GM said.

“But also, that I only think Sheldon’s going to get better. I think when we speak of Sheldon 10, 15 years from now, it’ll be in the same way that you spoke of those two great coaches . And I think that’ll be played out here in Toronto.”

Dubas is really giving Keefe a big ego boost here. Keefe knows his job is not in jeopardy. Full security.

I recall when Babs was coach and being ousted by Boston and asked about Babs, Dubas said all positions will be evaluated or something to that extent.

That’s the answer he should have given this year.

I just love the story line that Keefe is just as good as Trotz because Trotz coaches in a weaker division while ignoring the fact that Trotz took a crappy
Islander team to much greater success then Keefe has with this talent loaded group
Do some people even think before they post these excuses

Dubasites are well known to have great imaginations.

Still can't understand the dinosaur dumping the only thing he did right on the Island. God help the Isles now.

Maybe it's just a cult. It's not Keefe's first cult.

Trying to pull a fast one because nobody watching playoffs anymore eh?

7 of Tampa's 13 goals in round 2 were scored by their bottom 6 and Vasi went back to no.1 elite mode. We wouldn't have lasted more than 4/5 games ourselves against Tampa (version 2.0) with our soft depth and goaltending.

Our team is no where close to Tampa's level which is sad because the foundation is there to be even better if we had a competent GM.

The franchise has 13 Stanley Cup victories......last season could not possibly rank higher than the 14th best season in franchise history.

Yes some teams were able to win 2 playoffs rounds in a 6 team league.

Yes just fluke luck that we're the only team to outplay Tampa since they started winning cups. Even though the bolts were red hot to end the year right before and dominated the president's trophy winners right after.

All I see there is similar comment to "got respect during the handshake". You're a toxic fan who cares more about the GM than team success.

I can't deal with the over emotional tirade of bullshit in these threads. People with any intelligence regarding hockey have a different opinion regarding what we just watched and where we actually stand.

Changes on the on ice product are going to happen due to the nature of the cap. I think our next season is more impacted by who we can get as a goalie then flipping either Dubas or Keefe. Both of which have done just fine. You only want changes because you are mad at the results and demand someone pay for that.

I get it. It's emotional, yet ignorant...but I get it.

The only person whom I would trade that would be big this offseason is Willie. I'm done with him. It's especially frustrating watching him play for Sweden with more desire then how he just played for us. I want someone who's gonna go into that damn corner and fight for that puck or make the opposing team fight for that damn puck. Even if we are down 5-0. Hell ESPECIALLY if we are down 5-0.

So far, Gio has been a great first move by Dubas. I'm excited to see what else he does this summer to field another competitive team that will have to punch through Tampa Bay/Florida/Boston/Washington/New York/Carolina.

We live in a hard ass division.

Tampas depth account for more than 50% of their round 2 goals, direct proof Dubas doesn't know how to build a team for the playoffs (we don't even need 50%...even one extra non-empty net goal would help which we haven't gotten 3 years in a row now).....and all we get from Dubas cheer leaders is "we pushed them to 7 games" even though in round 2 we probably don't do all that better than Panthers

3-4 years ago we took the top teams to the brink in round 1 and in fact if I remember correctly we had Boston on the ropes before we let it slip away. This year we had Tampa on the ropes with a 3-2 lead in wins and we failed twice to put them away. Other then last year against the Habs we are seeing the same scenario play out for the last 6 years.
the same thing in the post season pressers……..we believe in our core and management.
we keep hearing by all the supposed experts that next year will be different but every year it is the same. Changing some lower tier players will do nothing, allowing Keefe to flounder around in pressure situations will do nothing.

I am done with your hard take on the happenings of what went on. And I can't promise you that next year will be different. And you know what? It doesn't matter who they fire or replace. I STILL wouldn't be able to promise you that next year will be any different and do you want to know why?

BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A HARD ASS DIVISION.

Fire Keefe Fire Dubas. Sign whomever the f*** you want and I STILL couldn't promise you that we would get out of the first round. We iced a 115 point team that went into the playoffs on a high. Yes. Even if you signed Trotz. I still think our odds are about 50 percent to get out of the first round.
