I'd think winning a cup gives them the best chance to keep their job, no?

I'm trying to come up with some league wide comparisons of where the Leafs are as a regular season powerhouse and playoff doormat, and I'm 2010s Anaheim Ducks for the most part, the San Jose Sharks year after year, maybe the Winnipeg Jets. There's definitely others so this isn't exhaustive.

These management groups just don't really get fired all that often. It's just business as usual for X number of years, every season gets you to the dance, chance to do damage. Not satisfying, but going nuclear in the board room and making massive roster change mandates also isn't the road to building a healthy franchise.

Washington light is my best analogy and my big question is whether we're ready to turnover our Semin and Green

Even they have all won a playoff round no?

I hope all that Bruin frustration and anger can be translated into bad roster decisions this summer.
It likely will. They have a great culture there but have made some awful decisions in terms of how they've surrounded their elite talent. I mean, they have had their big 3 making under 20 million combined for years and still don't have depth

How did they fire a goaltending coach for liking things on Twitter? This team is far to woke and they can't win a single playoff round.
I just heard on the Kyper & Bourne show yesterday that MacLean said the Leafs play like their management group...nice. Everyone is nice and cordial and woke and PC and so much better than every neanderthal other team because we care so much. Dubas stayed with Miky when he got his wrist slashed only for Miky to ask for a trade 18mnths later. Being nice and loyal to players is not going to work out the way they think it will. I am not saying you need to be an ass....but the hugs and emoji's can only take you so far. It's not a surprise that Dubas is still here. That image is what MLSE thinks is important to fans and will go the extra mile to protect it.

Washington won when the pressure of being the top team in the regular season and favored for the playoffs was finished. They had a mental block with Pittsburgh and only when everyone said they were never winning and they stopped loading up with the Shattenkirk's did they win. I expect the same thing here. We will win once the pressure eases and people say we will never do it.

During the Burke era I was 100% convinced the Leafs could Never let go of Burke. Like ever. I thought he had too much clout. Such a big superstar personality. Then he and subsequently Nonis were both fired.

Then came Babcock. I thought no way in hell are the Leafs gonna fire Babcock. I mean it’s Babcock right? That big name. The big contract. The great resume.

He was fired.

I am thinking the same about Shanny Dubas and Keefe. Let’s hope I am wrong again.

Raptors coach Dwane Casey fired after being named Coach of the Year

You don’t fire a coach after a successful regular season, unless you aren’t patting yourself on the back for failing again.
That was a very bold move after lots of seasons of failed expectations with that coach, 21-22 was Sheldon’s first full season with a normal training camp and full campaign.

Yea, cause we all shouldn’t be socially conscious and aware. What a dumb dusty take, holy crap.

I really think we’ve created a cozy and cuddly environment, and now we’re satisfied with trying hard and almost. Loveable losers.

Good thing we lost out on Foligno

I love that comparison.

So to check ourselves on that timeline, Washington also internally developed 3x goalies in house (Varlamov, Holtby and Neuvirth) who all pushed for jobs early in the build.

Secondly, they got a second wave of core pieces while in contention. Kuznetsov, Carlson came later and Wilson after that. So we really need something like Knies and others to step up and take ownership of the core and be all-star level players.

Third, they got guys like TJ Oshie to really add playoff bite.

So these are all milestones and items I think we need to see more signs out of with Toronto. Our timeline for contention can be long, but we need to successfully re-sign Auston Matthews, stickhandle around the Nylander re-signing and let time run out on John Tavares.

I don’t think anyone either in management or the fan base feels that way, sorry they don’t come out yelling and screaming banging fists on the table in hopes of winning a press conference with the populists of the fan base

You don't see Dekes, Zekes, Notbias or Fogelhund much anymore.
I’m still here, boo

they don't do much winning when it matters the most either

I still feel we need an impact move this summer. There needs to be something to ignite a new season. If that’s a top flight stud goalie or other significant change, I think rolling it back by only changing Kerfoot for Kerfoot part 2 and Mich for other unknown quantity is madness.
I don’t think you’ll find a single person here regardless of their stance who thinks running it back completely is the right move and that some form of significant change to the outlook of the roster is needed to push forward.

Anyone would love to work in a nurturing work environment and be good friends with their co-workers, that's for sure.

But in competitive sports, we often see athletes and team dynamics have to tap into something a little more toxic, more internal friction to attain greatness. Feelings will be hurt, but if that means winning and being better and better, I think the players would accept that. It's not an unreasonable price.

The second wave is the one we need right now IMO and it's one of the reasons I think we may need to go in "lighter" on depth than a lot of people want. We need to elevate guys like Knies, Robertson, Sandin, Lilj into regular roles and decrease the focus on guys like Lub, Holl, Kase, etc...

I'd also say we're closer to Trotz era than Boudreau at this point.

A lot of these cup winners have also had a down year which caused some sell offs. We haven't, but I won't be surprised if there's one in the near 2-3 years.
