I am sorry but you can’t be considered the 2nd best team in the league after losing as many 1st rounds in a row as the Leafs have for the past half decade.
How do you quantify 2nd best.

Please explain.

I'll do mine after

I'm good with dubas and shanny atm.
The only major thing I have issue with was how they disgarded Andersen.

All acquisitions are a gamble and dubas is pretty good with them, better than the revolving Dow of trash the Leafs have had since Quinn.

Now if they don't fight hard to land Trotz or look to upgrade the coach, not that Keefe is bad, but that is proper due diligence, then it will be their 2nd strike in my books.

Overall, I'm still happy with what they've done and what they bring. They've turned out organization from laughing stock where players had to be bribed to come play, to an organization that is now considered a great location to play for. That is as huge an accomplishment as the on ice product.
Andersen's downfall was coming to camp out of shape. He kept getting nagging injuries and then cut off communication with the coaching staff for parts of the season. At some point I think he mentally checked out and decided to ride out the season until free agency.
Not sure why Keefe keeps getting ridiculed for his comments when he specifically said right afterward that at the end of the day, it's the results that matter.
Because it was a really stupid thing to say. I think he added the last sentence after realizing the hole he was digging.
Happy endings are really the best
Unless the cop raid the place. Or so I've heard.
He also has contributed f*** all. At least Marleau mentored the kids.
Sure, mentored them to do avoid contact and just go with the flow. What a useless signing.

Yup, for people who say the press conferences don't mean anything this shows me otherwise. You get an insight into how they're taking the loss

Everything I've seen come out of Boston is that this isn't good enough and they need to be better. This is their attitude after their first loss in round 1 since 2017 lol. They have the mentality to be great, even if the pieces on the roster aren't there anymore

Then you see our management patting one another on the back for a close series after losing in round 1 6 times in a row. Just embarrassing
It's like the Patriots in the NFL. We win here is the message and if you don't buy in or want out we don't care who you are. Buh bye.

Do you have a link about Andersen not wanting to comeback? All I've seen is this about the matter

With Deboer, Bowness and Trotz all single & available, you know who's not worried about losing his job to one of those guys?

Sheldon Keefe.

And that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about how Dubas runs this show. He's going to stick with his coach (and core players) to the very end. An end that should have come by now, but apparently he's got a boss who feels the same, and they both work for a company that feels the same about everyone apparently.

No link, just how I interpreted things. It was a very weird 20-21 dynamic between him and the team.

I think the Leafs wanted to pay him $4M. Likely not enough of an incentive for him to return.
I don't know. 4 is just a half Mil less than he signed for and if we offered him an extra year :dunno:
My take was that dubas preferred Campbell and decided to throw the eggs in his basket. That Imo was bad
Sadly the full truth will not be known

Yup not the best person for the job; don't even interview - Dubas is king

So instead he sits then walks.

Cap Hit is 4.5 in Carolina. Not crazy vs. Mrazek and what he brought.
Strange they wouldn’t give him the same chance to fail over and over as the rest.

I wasn't crazy about Fred in his playoff games...but in the end the only game he really blew for us was the first Boston series when he let in a series of shitty goals in the 3rd after we were up 3-2 in game 7. I did blame him for columbus and the 2nd boston game 7 but in reality...this team was not going to win those games with half assed efforts.

I agree that Dubas gambled big by going with Jack and now he is stuck without a starter. I would not sign Jack because at some point you are going to regret it. He doesn't have the mental make-up to play here and his injuries are well documented. I think Fred felt that Dubas wanted Jack to take over the net from Fred last year and that's why he "Noped" his way out of town. Fred never took any blame for losses and Jack takes all the blame even when it's not his fault. We need someone in between IMO.

Still don’t know why you would sign Nick Ritchie + Mrazek (unknown quantity on the team and lingering injuries) vs. Andersen/Campbell tandem. You wouldn’t have to play any goalie 60 + games.

Funny how Cam Neeley and Brendan Shanahan were made from the same cloths as hockey players. Yet how different they are as executives

Cam doesn't care about your feelings. He pays you enough to get mental coaches or psychiatrists. He cares about output

Posters here are like nobody going to sign with us. Funny Boston always gets decent free agents and gets them on good deals

Fish rottens from the head. Dubas doesnt have the feel for the game and it shows. He reminds me of a substitute teacher. Happy to be here, happy to have a job. Make sure hes everyones friend and well liked

There is going to be a very brutally harsh awakening for that entire front office next year.

It was so bang on - one franchise who has has lots of success previously saying it wasn't good enough, apologizing to ownership and taking responsibility Then the Leafs basically saying we're proud of our progress - with no success whatsoever

And all 3 with no nhl success other than regular season stats sitting up there like they just lost in the scf

Why would there be? There wasn't one last year, when we suffered one of the most humiliating losses imaginable; and there wasn't one this year. And, frankly, the damage has already been done. AM will probably be gone in a couple of years, and he's the only non-fungible player on this entire team. Back to the Kessel era I guess which, sadly, was just as successful as this one.

I just can't believe how soft Shanahan has become as an executive. Especially when you consider what kind of player he was.

You would think that he would be one of the last people in the world to accept the kind of play that the Leafs have shown in the playoffs in the last 5 years.

Well first things first. Total points. I think Florida, Colorado and even Calgary are better then them.
Um

If you consider the regular season, then why are you so upset with the coaching, management and core players?

They just completed their most successful regular season of all time.
