Again, 3rd and 4th lines barely provide anything in the playoffs. MM & AM shut down in the biggest games. A goalie away from starting Hutch (I jest but it's close). JT on decline, Muzzin on decline, Kase a non-factor, Holl being Holl, a coach who can't adapt..... doesn't sound like a team that could have gone on a long playoff run if only we didn't play TB. Just more excuses

Though you could go through Tampa and make similar observations. Ie their main guys shutdown, especially at 5v5.

The series went 7 games and was decided by a single goal in the final game. If Tampa was a tier above they should have been able to close it out much earlier - but they couldn't. Beacuse empirically the two teams were likely as evenly matched as you could get in the post season.

I’m thinking next year maybe we win poorly instead of losing well.
When the Kessel lead leafs would win betting outshot 2-1 I always said "so". If we win a series that way? I'm breaking out the good stuff.

Seriously though Tampa is up 2-0 on Fla and their last 3 wins in a row they were outshot and out chances in 2 of the 3 games. Their defensive structure is quite effective. Optics might be bad but the two cups in a row and looking a strong case for a third changes the bad to good.
Winning is best. Everything is good when you win.

Or maybe TB is just ramping up as we see against FLA and Vasi. is Vasi

And last year I kept reading how we dominated the Habs and should have won and the year before we were the better team etc etc. Tampa is a tier above based on the fact they just won 2 cups in a row and have moved on to the 2nd round this yr, nothing changes that. Leafs are good but are they good enough? So far the answer is no, albeit they look pretty good but that doesn't change the fact they still lost. At what point do you think that some changes other than the fringes is needed to take the team to the next level? Coming close is good and all I guess but not really the goal right? And we are still only talking about 1 round...We have no idea how this group will react if they had to go 2-3 or 4 rounds. I don't know what the answer is to the puzzle that is the leafs playoff woes but status quo seems odd given the results or lack of.

I don’t really get this ageism angle when it comes hiring hockey personnel from the blogging world. Seems like a projection that Kyle needs to be the smartest guy in the room and if there are other voices that’ll be bad…
I think the point is that firing everybody and bringing in guys that were great 20 years ago is what pretty much every team in the NHL does in this situation, including the Leafs multiple times over the last 50 years. And it's never worked, so maybe trying something else is warranted? But the fans and the media don't get blood that way.

The statement I most agree with is the one about Trotz 20 years ago, because it's 100% accurate; the ones screaming for Trotz now are the same ones who would have missed him 20 years ago, because he didn't have a track record then.

I'm sorry, but that's such a bullshit perspective. If you swap the Leafs out for a different top 3 team in the conference, that narrative would never be floated. The Leafs outscored them, beating Vasi for an average of like 3 goals a game. Tampa had dominant games, they were definitely awake. This is how they win and always have won. They are always playing at a high level consistently, they need no ramp up.

I’m not screaming from Trotz personally, nor do I know if he’s a good fit for such a unique psychology of our Leaf core. But I think there’s a certain ignorance in the Leaf blog world that has no clue about the history of the game, how progressive the skill game actually is, how to value defensive and physical dimensions of the sport and are too lazy to fact check Trotz has something like 10x playoff series wins since 2017 and a Stanley Cup only 4 years ago.

For me, don’t just look at a guy with male pattern baldness and project all sorts of dinosaur concepts. It’s lazy and ignorant and cheapens the whole conversation.

The Muskoka Two - no results? No problem!

Imagine where we would be having selected Jarvis/Mercer and Schnieder in that draft.
Imagine if losing 6 1st round matchups in a row actually made you think there is a problem. Nothing is surprising.

If we are going to “run it back”, I wish it was with a new GM who wasn’t married to this squad and a little out of touch with we can and will. The new GM could keep the status quo but evaluate it with an unbiased eye towards shaping it for playoff success.

What is the other franchise inferred here?

Toronto?

Has anyone heard anyone say that the Leafs brass is satisfied?

Or is this yet another stupid argument made in bad faith?
We have enough of that from Simmons and Feschuck.
Our quota is met by those 2 already.
I can appreciate guys asking tough questions.

“After six straight first round exits, why do you feel as a staff that you have earned the right to continue to guide this team?”

So he resigned then?
Why should he resign? He's been at the helm for under 3 seasons and has the best winning percentage in franchise history.

It's up to the front office to decide if they want to move on from him.

No you’re right everyone should return, January is a Leaf’s fans favourite time of the year it seems.
