What the heck did you expect these guys to do? Dubas did his job: he assembled arguably the best Leafs team in history, and he managed to find the right pieces despite being handcuffed by the cap. The goaltending could have been better, but given how the series went, it was good enough. Keefe? He made adjustments that had an impact on the games which led to wins. Shanahan? He...uh...did...some stuff, I guess.

What were they supposed to do? Come down to the ice to yell at the refs? Smack the players in the butts? Was Shanahan supposed to strap on the skates while proudly proclaiming "If you want it done right..."?

I get playing the blame game is a time honoured tradition among fans, but come on! A thread like this is ridiculous. Point the fingers where they deserve to be pointed: at the players. It was their job to win the games. They were the ones who decided to spend the majority of the game tossing low quality shots at Vas. Management can only do so much from off-ice.
Who decided to stick with these players after the Montreal failure last year? Who staked his job on the core? Shanahan's too much of a yes man to call his bluff.

No one’s happy with “just making the playoffs” some are just more level headed than others
Yeah some are. And some are full of excuses year after year and pretend they're smarter than everyone else and make condescending comments over and over. Results be damned!
Ya'll are sad for buying into rolling it back and/or keeping Dubas/Keefe. Especially Keefe. Toronto deserves better

What "wholesale" changes do you see people calling for? I see mostly a coaching change and trying to move one of the "core 4" not named Matthews or Marner.
I’ve seen lots of calls for firing the whole brass, trading out multiple core pieces and starting again, in hopes of getting players who can be as good as nylander and rielly never mind Marner or matthews

Examples please.

Are you new?

I believe Tuttle means you should be aware that there is always the fringe element that make outlandish posts. You should know by now who are the posters that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Tell me you don’t know how probabilities work without telling me you don’t know how probabilities work.
There certainly is a lot of luck involved in hockey, but not enough to believe that 6 consecutive first round exits can just be explained away by bad vibes or whatever. Hockey isn't as purely skill based as something like chess, but we aren't talking about flipping a coin 6 times in a row either. If you lose at the same point of the playoffs every year with the same core, it's probably because you deserve it

lol I know how probabilities work, I just think blaming our losses on hockey being random is BS and a cop-out

Sure hockey is high variance, it's why upsets happen in this sport much more than others. But having a result repeat itself 6 times likely isn't variance, it means you have issues with your team

Management got of the hock by playing TB.
They forgot out team didn't show up in game 4 I think the game we gave up 7 goals.
Our team didn't show enough in game 7 again, we played alright . But alright is not good enough.
Game six third period 4 shots , not nearly enough.
Our 3rd line did nothing offensively.
But they are patting there selves on the back , saying we almost beat TB.
Not alot of changes coming.
Wouldn't be surprised if kerfoot drop pass is back, the he will be gone as a Ufa. Bad asset mngt the same with Holl.
I said it right when it was confirmed that if the Leafs played Tampa that no matter what the result the Dubas Defense Crue would have their excuse.

And I was right.

That was the gist of post yesterday that Shanahan reports to a MLSE Board of Directors that Ownership represents members of Bell and Rogers (sharing 75% share) and Larry Tanenbaum ( owns a 25% stake in MLSE) as co owners and not a single voice. A single owner has autonomy to make management decisions as they please, but MLSE ownership complicates things as to who could force change and hire/fire the President or tell him to make decisions below.

If Harold Ballard still owned the Leafs and his coach up 3-1 to arch rival Montreal lost the series, he would be marched Keefe out of the building with a paper bag over his head after embarassing the organization .:)

While you're probably right, that doesn't explain why Shanny moved off of GM Lou Lam and coach Babcock, who actually restored respectably after inherited a team that had missed the playoffs 10 of 11 years and struggling, drafted Auston Matthews and then restored the team to the playoffs the next year, before handing over the reigns to Dubas with a record setting and playoff established team. Losing in round #1 to Washington and Boston in round #1 forced change when winning would have been a long shot, but then Dubas has 4 consecutive 1st round losses under his belt and secure as can be, when Leafs should have won at least 2 of those 4 and were up 3-1 or 3-2 in all series.

Ballard would have ordered Matthews Marner and Nylander traded as soon as their ELCs were up.

Dumbest decision in 30 years. Keefe constantly gets outcoached yet the star players on this team constantly bail him out. And there are some quality coaches available right now like Trotz.

Dubas has proven lots of times the play agents own him.

We'd have a better chance of Shanny coming out of retirement and playing for this team, he knows how to win. Dubas is a twit.

We did, they didn't call it. Bunting was flopping all over the place.
Well that's my point, it's usually Bunting who does the flopping (and it worked well, he was top 5 in the league during the season in drawing penalties, I agree it's surprising they didn't call any for him during the playoffs)

The rest of the team needs some of that in their game, though. I love that we try to fight through contact but sometimes you gotta go down. Tampa is so f***ing infuriating because they'll go down real easy (Corey Perry, I hate that guy)
