Don’t know what Keefe is supposed to do about his players laying an egg to start the second period. Could argue that the Tavares line is the worst defensively so they shouldn’t have started the second, but when the line with the reigning Hart and Lindsay winner (in part due to his defensive play) and a Selke nominee also f*** up I have to agree with him, it was disappointing and baffling.
They still had almost 40 minutes to find a goal and could not. Keefe has no answers. It is the same old we got goalied when an opponent's goalie does his job and teams go into their defensive shells in front of their net.

Just played 5 games in 9 nights of tough playoff hockey. They must smell blood and doubt they let up like we would.
I doubt they let up either, but maybe Bobrovsky gets out his groove and let’s in a stinker in game 3.

I believe had the Leafs scored with 10 mins left in last nights game, they would have stopped pushing and the “derserved to win meter” would even out.

Florida has been the better team in the two games and deserve to be up.

Now the Leafs have to show something they’ve never shown before.

the problem is that if it were leafs players mugging or elbowing the panthers we know there would be supplemental discipline.… because Bunting already faced supplemental discipline for an elbow no worse than Thachuk.

The leafs know that not only do they have the second best goaltender in the series but that it’s open season on their players with the refs standing by just looking for retaliation.

if the uniforms were switched the leafs would have two hearings right now.

there are studies showing that Canadian teams face biased officiating in the playoffs.

Those are facts. The NHL is based in New York and is an american controlled league.

should there be retaliation? Oh yes. If they get down 3-0 you might actually see it in game 4.

Yeah, between the elbow to the head, the body slam, and the cross-check to the head there should be some fines or suspensions based on previous rulings.. but there won't be.

the leafs were sleepy to start the second period but the most guilty was Samsonov. That second goal against was just pathetic. It was a slow wrister from distance. Barkov probably shot the puck just hoping for an offensive zone face off.

they should have pulled Samsonov right there and put in Woll who was the leafs best goaltender down the stretch.

Woll should start game 3. No question.

Does anyone think changing Keefe out is going to suddenly make this team killers in the playoffs? Like Keefe isn't a bad coach. This team has never developed out of their instinct of puking all over themselves. If only Matthews was like 50% of Drai in the playoffs. That would be nice.

Keefe has proven he can't get these guys over the hump. Surly we can't run it back an 8th time if they lose to Florida. I mean, they did not spend all that draft capitol to lose in the 2nd round and to lose to the 8th seed when everybody was expecting to play the #1 seed in round #2.

Maurice isn’t the greatest coach but he sure can light a fire under his players. How long that adrenaline ride will last is anyone’s guess.
So it is a good thing there are 2 days between games in Florida. Something tells me Tkachuk won't let the Panthers let up. Leafs will have to earn it.

I’ll panic when it’s 3-0.

Our play has been better than being 2-0 down in the series. Need to win that first game in Florida then let’s see.
Its not a button, its a scale. Were in trouble right now but its not over.

On the whole, too many mistakes have ended up in our net and not enough of thr strong offensive plays have ended up in theirs. If this is how the goaltending will go, we need to allow less.

If this were an 82 game regular season, Nylander (40 goals) and Marner (30 goals) would be on pace for just 20 goals each. Not good enough. The goal scoring can’t just be from Matthews and occasionally Tavares, ROR, and Rielly.

Lol lets call a spade a spade. The Leafs arent going to do shit if theyre down 3-0. They just dont give a f***. How can you watch a rookie with 10 games and been playing great get targeted like that and you do absolutely nothing. Its honestly pathetic and is sickening to watch.

Do people expect the Leafs to dominate every game,? every period?, every shift?

The Leafs did a good job overall but they're going to make some mistakes and lose some battles over the course of 60 minutes. Florida is a good team and they're going to get chances. They buried one more than we did in 2 straight games. Sucks but that's the way it goes.

The margin for error, especially in the playoffs, is razor thin. Doesn't mean the Leafs "puked all over themselves." My God, get a grip.

That is the big problem with this Leafs team for years. For Tkachuk that gritty intense play is built-in.

The Leafs core does not have that intensity in their top 6 or top 4 for the most part. Dubas finally realized it isn't figure skating and tried to add grit to the team but the players with sandpaper are not the players you are counting on being on the ice in the important times.

It is a fundamentally flawed team in that respect and will only go as far as the top players will raise their game and do things that maybe they aren't really known for.

And not a peep from the supposed Toronto centric media.
The fix is in, as usual. We play by a different set of rules than everyone else.

Everyone bitches that we don't play with an edge yet everytime we do, we get paraded to the box and suspended

I think the team is lead by Tkachuk. He creates a work physically hard approach that Matthews and Tavares don't. Maurice also is a coach that encourages physical play ... so they match and create a team identity.

And .... Bob makes them look good.

Overpaying too many forwards creates an unbalanced team.

Because in a 3-2 game taking a retaliation penalty like Bunting did against Tampa earns a match penalty and suspension with the game essentially being forfeited. That’s why.

in a blowout game or down 3-0 there would be retaliation.

We have zero grit in our top 6. Our LW is so bad, it took a 20 year old college player a handful of games to show that he was our best LWer. Glad to have Knies going forward.

Well, when we tried to respond to a knee on knee hit against Sandin after he was targeted all game, Spezza (no discipline history) ended up getting suspended 6 games for this hit:

So it’s tough when you’re playing under a different set of rules with the Maple Leafs crest on your jersey.

This series is the opposite of the 1st round. Tampa played better in 2 of the games that the Leafs won, but the Leafs were fortunate and got some bounces and took advantage of their few chances. Florida was outplayed in both games, not by much except last night the Leafs were the better team in the 1st and 3rd period, but like the Leafs in round 1, Florida got the bounces and took advantage. If this pattern continues the Leafs will be done soon.

The Leafs seem to get “goalied” in the post season a lot more than other teams. Columbus, Montreal, now Florida?
