unfortunately it’s a pattern that has continued with this management group. It’s telling that none of these goalies go on to success elsewhere either. - see Campbell as the most recent example.

that’s really their biggest failure as a management group.

however Dubas did draft Joseph Woll who looks like a legit NHL starter.
It was actually Lou who drafted Woll. Just sayin'

disappointing result. Once again, we played well enough to win. To walk away down 0-2 after those first 2 games is a bit of a cruel joke. But then again, that's just how the game works sometimes. We seemingly got every bounce in the book last series, and we just cannot seem to get any this time around.

Not often you can show up for 2 minutes and win a game, but that is unfortunately exactly what happened for FLA.

Anyone counting us out of this series needs to take a chill pill. Of course there is reason for concern, but this is far from over. This 2 day break in between games benefits us far more than it will FLA. Who seemingly is playing the best hockey they've played all year long and caught lightning in a bottle with a run of otherworldly tending by Bob.

FLA may eventually win this series, but they cannot continue to play the way they have been and expect the same results. When the results stop coming, I expect a little bit of a fall from grace in all honesty. Trying not to take anything away from them, they have certainly created their own luck. They work hard, and they create turnovers. But they have no sustained pressure.

I said this yesterday, but they remind me so much of the 2020-21 Habs team. They are riding this wave of confidence. Largely backed by their tendy getting hot at the right time. They'll happily trade chances knowing that they have a guy who can make the key saves when necessary.

Historically the team that goes up 2-0 in a series has won their series 87% of the time based on past results.

"Disappointing. Baffling," Keefe said of the Maple Leafs' second-period play. "We didn't make those mistakes one time in the last series [in the first round against Tampa Bay]."

Big picture, the Leafs virtually lost the series on the Forsling sequence.

Now the Leafs are firmly in the underdog role and they’ll need to stop thinking about the series and just win one period at a time. The team loves adversity but I think they dug themselves a pretty deep one.

Why is it so damn hard to learn that when you put Marner and Matthews at 5v5, they shit the bed with stupid ass fancy pantsy shit that has no place in the playoffs?

Why is it so damn hard to see this?

Fack…
They're blinded by how well Willy and JT mesh? :sarcasm:

we had some pretty bad puck luck the last game. we hit like 3 or 4 posts. if couple of them went in, it'd be a different series.

i still believe in this team. we'll re-group and win two games in FLA. Keep the belief alive.

Don’t know what Keefe is supposed to do about his players laying an egg to start the second period. Could argue that the Tavares line is the worst defensively so they shouldn’t have started the second, but when the line with the reigning Hart and Lindsay winner (in part due to his defensive play) and a Selke nominee also f*** up I have to agree with him, it was disappointing and baffling.
The only "disappointing and baffling" part is why JT and Willy are still together, and Matty and Mitch are still together.

They’ve won 4 out of 6 periods already. One period at a time ain’t cutting it. They need to change the goalie.

I think the break helps Florida more than the Leafs. They went 7 against Boston and after a loss you want to get right back in there instead of waiting and thinking about being down 0-2.

The goal samsonov gave up wasn't bad luck neither was the goal Forsling scored

We created our luck. This is a game of margins. We can't give two bad goals, take the period off and then expect to win

true but the second goal against Sammy was pathetic for Sammy. That doesn’t go in against a cup winning goalie. Need to change the goalie. Put Woll in net.

Bobrovsky does it again. That’s all. Better team again. Leafs win next 4.
Good to see that not everyone can't think clearly and is back to name calling with the POV that everyone sucks from Shanahan down to the players.

We dominated much of the game last night, have carried the play most of the time in both games but Bobrovsky was been superb, that's all there is to it. A bit of bad luck thrown in (2 posts for Nylander, I think someone else hit one too) and that's that.

I don't know about 4 in a row, but 4 out of 5 is doable. It's an uphill battle now but we just have to win the next one and go from there. This thing's far from over.

Great post! I agree the break could help us more than them.

I hate this thread title. We just played two good hockey games, maybe even very good, could easily be up 2-0 and the word "shame" is grossly inappropriate. And all the people calling the players losers and pukes and whatever else, the word shame belongs on a sign hanging around your neck.

GLG!!

No doubt. But Habs didn't ride confidence. That was round 1. Leafs have a way of playing down to their opponent

That entire 2nd period was a write off. You can't take the entire period off

Devils came back to win. We will make a series out of it. But if we lose by 1 game, everyone is going to remember this game

Interesting. I guess Justin Holl was replaced in the Tampa series for being mistake free.

When you're on a 5 game heater, the last thing you want is any form of disruption. That includes a break in play. If we can get the win on Sunday, there is another 2 day break going into game 4. Having 1 game in the next 5 calendar days is definitely not something that FLA will want. Especially given the fact that they are not playing a sustainable brand of hockey and are riding a hot goaltender.

It's cliché, but we just have to take this 1 game at a time right now. No need to hit the panic button at all. Winning 4 straight against this team is not even remotely close to being out of the question.

We've not lost because we haven't played well. We've lost because we losing our focus for a split second and it is costing us. It just is what it is unfortunately.

Through two games so far, this series has very much felt like Sheldon Keefe is up to his old tricks, loading up the top guys with huge minutes as if nobody else really matters. Bunting is the team’s best left winger, without question, with Knies out. 15:11 is a low ice-time total for him.

Yep it all starts with winning game 3 and making this a series. I've seen enough hockey over the years to know this is far from over.

I'd be a lot more concerned if the Leafs were being dominated.

It's time for them to show us that they are indeed "different" from those other teams we've seen in the past few seasons.

Florida can use the rest too after going 7 against Boston.

Playoffs are a grind.

Yes, and they've been doing that every series for 7 straight playoffs. This is who they are. Anyone expecting they are somehow going to fix that, right now, down 2-0 is fooling themselves.

They absolutely can make it interesting by stealing a game or two in Florida, but ultimately every year the bad decisions, turnovers and penalties cost them. Most years, it catches up with them in games 6-7 in the opening round. This year, early in round 2.

I think I've found the problem. Keefe hasn't been watching any of the games, or looking at the videos.

People talking about goals

But when was the last time JT set up a 5v5 goal with an assist. Hell i can’t even remember the last time he’s set up nylander and Marner for a chance even half as good as the 3-4 he got today
Cut him some slack

He just had a child

3rd one in 5 years.

You can't expect him to produce with newly born infants crying plugging his ears

I remember reading an article in which a coach said if your team does better on the road than at home it's because the coach is relieved of his match-up duties and can't screw things up like he can at home. Let's see how they play on the road for the next 2. If they can pull a few wins out...

If we are being honest with ourselves we would say we really got a lot of good bounce goals against TB and that luck has run out. I think the players kind of thought that just shooting it at the net would result in a goal and they are not crashing the net because they didn't have to as much last series. In short, the goals came fairly easily against TB and now they have to work for them a lot harder.
