Post-Game Talk: Shameful Leafs lose 3-2

I've gave it to the others many times in the past. I've mentioned these 2 because they aren't scoring and they gave the puck away in a bad spot which lead to the 2 goals that beat us today. Matthews needs to stop going off the scouting report from the Bruins series that Bob is weak blocker side because he's shooting every good chance he gets blocker side and it's getting saved. Just needs to shoot wherever the hell he wants and trust his shot.

He needs to drive to the net hard like a bull and if Bobrovsky is at home plate, oh well.

We've given this roster way too many chances. Keefe should've been gone or one or both of Marner or Nylander.

Something needed to be done. Yet this team once again looks like the very same flawed team from the years past. Making the very same mistakes.

Frustrating that we've wasted what should be our prime cup years experimenting with a rookie coach and GM. Shanahan definitely watched moneyball a few too many times.

I'd there is a silver lining to this year, it's we donally get change in the offseason.

I get what you are saying, but Bobrovsky can absolutely do this again for another two wins. When he decides to turn it up, he is the best goalie in the world and people are seeing that now.

Only thing i could find online was teams down 2-0 historically come back to win the series only 13% of the time. No home/away splits. Id guess 10% when the losses were at home.

I suspected it was better odds when the team down 2-0 is the favorite. Thanks @pnep for the stats.

We have players on the core who still hasn't learned and don't play the game right...still thinks it's exhibition or OHL playoff hockey. Many playoff wins and losses are by just 1 goal...giving freebees to the other team is a recipe for disaster. Still flabbergasted why Marner passed the puck back to Matthews at his blueline instead of just skating up the side...that's Justin Holl-like...maybe he didn't want to take a hit along the boards, soft!

100% Marner could and usually skates it up into the Ozone. But the panthers are locked in and will take your head off .

Marner gets rid of it like a hot potato. everyone else skated it up fine knowing you will be shoved and hit.

11mil winger. And we lose by a goal.

Dubas better trade these guys if they don’t win 4 in a row now.

Or he can be a GM somewhere else as well.

We've played 1, maybe 2 quality games so far. We didn't deserve to beat Tampa, and it's been almost non-stop puck fumbling, mishandled passes, shooting into our own guys, falling down, or other garbage that we didn't see all regular season. It's been frustrating to the max and damn near unwatchable.

Marner pass was fine imo, Matthews was in stride and had at least enough space to lift the puck into the air and then attempt to bat it through an opposing player anyway. I'm still a bit dazed from witnessing it, no idea what he was thinking

This team should really be looking to retool and be competitive for when Tavares contract is up. 11M is too much of a boat anchor for what he provides. Marner and Nylander should be the first two out the door, these guys can’t spell intensity

I generally agree with you, but then you see Marner attempt to shoot the puck... Great play on RORs goal, but there is a reason why Ds and goalies don't respect his shot.

Two of Tavares' were in the blowout, and the third was a lucky bounce off a defenceman's skate. But my point was that you said 'top paid players'. In the last 6 games Matthews and Tavares have one goal each and Marner and Nylander have none, but why is the #5 paid blamed as much as the three who each make at least #4M more?

he scored the 2nd and 4th goal of the blowout, after Cole had brought it to 3-1. Tavares deserves all sorts of criticism but to describe 'the blowout' like he was separate to it.

Of course not but being a pacifist and letting your new rookie get abused is not how you build a team……..a real team not just a collection of talented players.

I know it's kind of faux pas to say, but I don't actually think we've got a good defense.

I like Morgan. I like Schenn as a 6 (bless him he's doing great as the 4). I like McCabe as a 5. I like Brodie as a 4.

So we're missing a 1 and 2 (or 3) in my opinion.

We don’t have good defence and we have marginal and very inconsistent goal tending

In my opinion players should only produce results commensurate with or excessive to their salary cap hit and those players who do not meet this criteria should be exchanged with other players in the league before the next playoff game

Florida stole that game. Mu!tiple posts give them a W.

Leafs have to play a full 60 min game and they win. I still think they can beat Florida.

Florida was 60 from elimination, instead send Bruins home packing. Vasi and his stick post saved one in that game too (similar to the end of the regular season Bos-Flo game). Lucky bounce from Bergeron and here comes OT.

They are effective and force is with them.

Their home record is meh. Win the next two, best of 3 incoming.

Maybe the first time losing two games at home to open a series; we lost both to Boston in 2018 but that was on the road.
The only positive now is that I don’t have the feeling home ice matters much in this series, need to get both in Florida now..
