Everybody was jumping up and down and so happy they won a round. The team is better but this is as good as they are. Enjoy the !st round win.

I think its time to dress steve simmonds and kyle clifford on saturday. Need some more grit against a skilled bobrovsky team

really this guy?

:sarcasm:

Yeah its simple. Willy and matty on the sides teeing up one timers. Marner at the goal lone or behind net for passes.

Marner gets so much time and does not have a shot. They give him all the time which makes sense
Just so confused about this. Marner down low either teeing up JT in the slot or setting up Matthews and Nylander on the wing is how the pp should be ... Has Marner ever scored a pp goal from the wing? Series question.

He should have invested Tavares' money in a stud goalie five years ago!
or a stud #1 dman

Imagine having Morgan Rielly, as your number 2 dman. That would be insane

2C could be a kadri-level player. 45-55 point player who gets propped up to 60-65 point player when on the ice with nylander or Marner

What continues to bug me about Marner in these big game situations is he’s still like a 26 year old kid brother you need to build all this veteran and adult support around.

Like he’ll never become an honest to goodness warrior who can just step into the battle like a Brayden Point and you know he’ll deliver with guys trying to take his head off.

It’s always like a have fun, keep it light, high skill game. Sometimes it isn’t…

Beautifully said...

Why does this team go into coast mode after winning a series? Next thing we hear it’ll be about how they need better emotional management having come off the Tampa series. Need to refocus and reset in the shock of not playing Boston, etc. So many mental things with this club.

am almsot positive that if leafs run into tampa again next year in round 1, leafs ain't winning it next year as long as it is the same management group including coaching staff with their galaxy brain philosophy. Leafs won 3 OTs that is statistically really hard to achieve where one shot wins you the game.

Willy is only the fifth-highest paid player on the Leafs, and although he hasn't scored enough, he's usually been our most dangerous player, despite being on the second PP and usually stuck dragging Tavares around.
He has, but he still only has 1 5v5 goal while Tavares has 3. When 2 of our best wingers and core players only have a combined 2 5v5 goals in 8 games and both of them came in a blowout win in Game 2 vs TB it's just not good enough. Jarnkrok is another guy that needs to step up. 20 goal scorer and you forget he's even playing on this team these playoffs. 1 goal in a blowout loss Game 1 vs TB.

Need to go 2-0 in Florida, it's that simple.
But I'm not optimistic.

They didn't look like Cup champions, or even all that great against Tampa. So it really shouldn't be surprising they are not only failing to take it to the Panthers but that they're losing the series.

My biggest worry going into these playoffs was if they got through round 1 but flop in round 2, does MLSE see that as progress? Enough to bring the band back again for another shot? Because anyone who sees this team as "close" is fooling themselves. They are not.

People talking about goals

But when was the last time JT set up a 5v5 goal with an assist. Hell i can’t even remember the last time he’s set up nylander and Marner for a chance even half as good as the 3-4 he got today
Just finished watching the game. Holy JT should have had a hat trick with the setups he got from Nylander today. Not putting at minimum one of those chances in is a travesty.

If Nylander plays like he did in the last 30 for the total game Leafs have a chance.

Leafs are losing pretty much the same way Boston did, just a bit sooner…maybe that’ll be a good thing in the long run and they can correct and identify mistakes early? Gonna be tough. Everyone underestimated the cats, including me and I said Bruins in 6 not a sweep or even gentlemen’s like a lot of cocky fans or neutral fans interested did.

If this team has a hope of winning the leafs fan base needs to collectively yell at to all it may concern: take the body and the puck all at once.

Bruins played at the end of their sticks constantly and it lead to turn overs, panthers have capitalized on more turn overs than any other team these playoffs

if Leafs are to lose the series I'd prefer they get absolutely embarrassed and swept

this will hopefully lead to

1) New Competent GM and Coach
2) Players' pride will get hurt and next year they will show up angry instead of "oh we pushed the series to X games"

For me as a Leafs fan I either want a series win or they get completely embarrassed. It will be for the good of the franchise in the long run

P.S. I did not underestimate Panthers at all. They have been playing playoff hockey for more than a month. Thats a team more prepared than other teams, in a manner of speaking

Bobrovsky looking like a Vezina winner and the Leafs let Bennett leave the building unscathed after injuring Knies.

Leafs once again play like they’ve got brain damage and hand the Panthers two quick goals and that’s the game. Unbelievable that they could be so f***ing stupid to start the second.

1-4 at home this post-season. f***ing unacceptable.
Tampa was 0-3 at home 🤷🏽‍♂️

This series could just as easily be 2-0 for us. Game 3 is must win obviously, but if we do I don't hate our chances at all.
The old saying goes, "No need to worry until you lose a game at home". We've lost TWO. I don't like our chances, of course, but... you never know.

ROR doesn't matter, McCabe doesn't matter, Schenn doesn't matter, Acciari doesn't matter.

It all comes down to whether Matthews or Marner decide to show up and dominate...it's the same problem it's been for the past 7 years.

you will only go as far as your best players (or in Leafs case the highest AAV on the roster) will take you. that shoudn't be a surprise to anyone.

JT unfortunately is so limited 5 on 5 most of the time that less than a week after scoring the biggest goal of his NHL career and for the Leafs in 20 years, it’s still not nearly good enough. All the credit for coming up big in that moment but all the other moments he’s barely in the game.

Well that was less good then game 1. But not by much. This penance for giving up momentum changing goals has to stop. Sammy has to have that third goal. Got jumped early second and lost. Better team frigging most of it but there it was.

Simple I guess, go take 2 of 2 in Florida.

@pnep probably knows the answer...

When a team loses the first 2 games of a best-of-7...

what's their historical series W/L record when those two losses were at home?
what's their historical series W/L record when those two losses were on the road?
Only thing i could find online was teams down 2-0 historically come back to win the series only 13% of the time. No home/away splits. Id guess 10% when the losses were at home.
