As far as I remember, this was always the plan. It was announced that we signed him with the intent to loan him back to UFA next year. It avoided a mandatory 2 or 3 year contract if he were to sign with UFA directly, and gave him a little AHL time.
I think I remember that, I guess there was hope that cause of the Current climate in Russia he would feel better staying here.

It's a Russian player who apparently had some sort of deal in place with his KHL club for the upcoming season according to at least one online article I found. With the atmosphere being what it is now, if fulfilling his commitment to them keeps him from being imprisoned or impressed into military service as a draft dodger, that probably makes sense.
or having worse happen to him than that. It’s an extremely violent, arbitrary and crazy society. Russian kids with KHL ties should and have to be very cautious and politically correct right now. There’s no telling how far the powers that be will go there should they decide that the party line requires the kids to be intimidated into staying home. Imprisonment at an army base is the least of it. The state can literally kill you there with complete impunity should it want to.

Everyone (the Devils included) already agreed that he would play this season in KHL, it isn’t a change of plans.

Some NHL ties:
Vitali Yachmenev was an Assistant Coach on Salavat Yulaev Ufa in 2018-19 & 2019-20. Yachmenev played with Fitz for 4 years when he was the inaugural Captain of the Predators. So he was around for Muk’s rookie season.

And the team has a new head coach, after two years as an AC there, former NJ Devils legend Viktor Kozlov got a promotion.

So at worst Muk get tips on dangling and how to be lights out in shoot outs.

I don’t care where he plays, I just want to see some major progression this season.
Yep. I wasn't a fan of the pick to begin with, but if the Devils think they can project him into the NHL anytime in the next few seasons, he'll need to show some improvement.

HIs minutes should go up big time with probably no foreign players in the team.

As far as I can tell European players have left but North Americans are still signing. Defenseman Ryan Murphy signed with them.

And this from Weekes:

Putting aside how you judge their decision to sign it’s a plus for him to have NA teammates, particularly a defenseman who played in the NHL.

This makes sense, non-Russian Europeans are not playing there for a multitude of reasons, but I imagine one of the larger ones is that doing so disqualifies you from playing for the national team. Not a concern for guys like Murphy and Ho Sang.

One thing that concerns me a little bit with Mukhamadullin is the rate at which he is putting size on. Guys like Gritsyuk and LHughes look much stronger than what they were when drafted. Muk looks like he hasn't added any size.
He is 6.4 or something like that. In Russian culture there are not popular to use muscle adding doping for professional athletes. I know its sounds ridiculous but this is what it is. And kids don't work a lot with big weights before they will finally grow. As I remember our developing coaches think that training with big weights without helping can badly influence on height and back overall. Reason why most kids from Russia and Europe are not looking like 30 yo in a draft day or on wjc. And it is much harder to add muscle when you are much taller with fast metabolism. And as I remember Shaq is Muslim and it change his eating routine.
When you will recognize that he finally add mass, it would be a moment when he will add a lot.

Fair enough, just a huge difference between the physical evolution of Gritsyuk and Muk.

If I recall corectly it was a language barrier issue, but I thought it was funny when a poster accidentally suggested that Mukhamadullin being Muslim meant he wouldn't want to play in the AHL. I'm sure he meant that as a Russian player with a KHL alternative he wouldn't want to play in the AHL on a minor league salary but it struck me as very funny. I am happy for him. He seems to be developing into a well rounded defender. He probably should start training for an NHL game after his KHL season ends and he will need to adapt to the faster bump and run play but he has the tools and ability. As long as he has good coaching and mentorship and he puts in the time and the practice and the studying he should become a very good defender.

It was a well intentioned post but the poster mixed up two things and as usual I could not help myself from having fun with the low hanging fruit.
