How are Misyul and Zaitsev doing by the way ? I thought we had one other D prospect that was pretty damn good as well . Vukojevic maybe ?
Salminen Vukojevic Vilen are guys I have no clue how they are doing .

I don’t have a ton of insight into their play, @Guadana is definitely the man for that. I did track their ice times & stats for a while last season (and then stopped after I lost the notes lol).

Zaitsev had pretty good minutes, and he ended up 4th in minutes among defenseman with 16:57, but he would have to take a bigger step as and clearly become the key shutdown down guy on his team to have a shot to come over. He’s on a team with what looks like a strong defensive core too.

He was 4th overall in the KHL in hits, and he’s a bruiser who’s been up their every year, so he does fit the “tough to play against” edict.*

The lack of offense, the lack of notable size (he’s only listed at 6’0” & 192) and being an LD means he seems a little redundant with Okhotiuk.

If he looked really good after this season then he could potentially come over to be bottom pairing guy, if they are willing to play him on his off-side, something he has experience with. He was a solid #205 pick even if he never comes over, he’s a good player. (As opposed to Viktor Hurtig, who is still bad at hockey at age 20, but is tall.)

Zaitsev is 24 and Misyul is 21. Misyul’s ice time was all over the place, I’m curious what is when he’s no longer a junior player who’s basically an extra skater on game day rosters with no cap hit.

He’s 6’3” PMD with good skating and strength but his lack of offense is definitely a disappointment since he was taken at #70. Wheeler had Vilén at 20 on our prospect list and had Misyul as one of the 5 HM. I don’t see him getting signed after next season unless he’s willing to develop in the AHL. (Some Russian players are, it depends on the opportunities they are getting from their home clubs.)

Misyul also has the worst hair of all Russian prospects(it really went to hell lol), Gritsyuk obviously has the best. Yes, I do judge the prospects (and players) by their hair. I’m not saying it’s important, but I’m also not saying it’s not important.

*7th this season in the KHL in hits? Patrice Cormier, the Devils 2008 2nd Rd (#54) pick. That was his 4th season in the KHL.

Surprisingly he never left the Thrashers/Jet system after the Kovy trade at the 2010 TDL. He played for them until 2017–18, ending up the Captain of Manitoba Moose.

Why are you so sure about that?

I'm not.

Canada in particular has a let's say, contentious relationship with that nation.
Wsh sign Trineev, Cbl sign Marchenko, Col sign Zhuravlyov, Car sign Pashin, Vgk sign Morozov etc.

If canada‘s teams will not sign Russian players - I’m not against. Stanley Cup doesn‘t visit that nation a long time. This decision will not help them.

I get cutting heated political talk if that’s what the board moderators want, but your low effort list (no offense intended) of a couple Russian prospects who got signed survives while my much more complete list got wiped? Boo.

Geez, I wish they just left the list, I don’t have a copy of it. I went to Capfriendly and copied out all those signings for nothing. Lol.

It will come up again too, people don’t seem to notice all those signings. (Even my sweet lil’ Pashin, who should have been ours!)

It’s going to be a long offseason.

He should be at Utica practice by now right?

I was only half-listening but from the ESPN broadcast of Game 2 it sounded like Kochetkov had to fly to a different country first and then fly to the United States, and this after Carolina was shopping around for a place to get Kochetkov a visa. So yeah even getting Mukhamadullin here after him getting his visa might take some time.

Vegas signed Ivan Morozov on April 26th and he played in the Henderson Silver Knights last regular season game on May 30th.

And he got there a lot earlier going by this Tweet.

Vukojevic is in Utica and hasn’t made his way to the top of the lineup yet if the callous are any indication. Vilen and Salminen take turns throwing darts at the big picture of @StevenToddIves thry taped over the dart board.
Vukojevic certainly has the ability to become a very good third-pairing defender at the NHL level. Vilen was actually a player I liked for the 2021 draft, I just couldn't believe the Devils went with a high-floor, low-upside LD -- passing on not only a couple very solid RD prospects in Jack Bar and Ty Gallagher, but also a couple wingers with star upside in Dmitri Rashevsky and Matvey Petrov.

Needless to say, Shakir Mukhamadullin has far more upside than either Vukojevic or Vilen. If he and Luke Hughes hit close to their high-end potential, the Devils will be ridiculously strong at LD for many, many years.

At this point as you’ve explained multiple times Vilen and Edwards have to climb way up the depth chart to even register. Pointless picks, figuratively if not literally.

I really didn't see your post. Your list literally killed mine. If I could challenge you in detailing, I would prefer to admit my defeat.

Shakir wasn't good in the playoff and in the end of the season. Covid effect this game much. I would not wait much from him. Especially in the new circumstances with new group.

Edwards could have some real solid trade value if he continues to grow at Michigan. Vilén less so, because I’m not sure he comes over, but he’s playing good minutes in the Liiga and has played on his national team.

I’m going to shit on the Hurtig pick forever (and now). Hate hate hate it. Didn’t like it then at all, it’s gotten significantly worse in only one year.

The staff basically fell for production with a small sample size (11 GP 5G 3A) in U20. He played 4 games in their lower pro men’s league (below the SHL) and then got lent out to the 3rd tier pro-men’s league for 7 games. He was an overager, that isn’t very impressive for a D+1 year.

This season his club left him in the U20, with no cups of coffee in a pro league, and then dumped his ass to another U20 team that did the same.

No pro games as a 20 year is very bad and if it happens the player better be blowing it up as a top pairing guy or they most likely aren’t playing pro hockey outside of maybe some crap very low tier nothing Euro league. Maybe not even that

And, no, he’s not a top pairing guy blowing up the league. This isn’t Canada, no one who’s ever made it over here, as far as I can tell, was this much of a loser in his D+2 year in the Swedish U20.

And it’s not like Pytlik, who showed promise and was on his national team, and then injury plus COVID plus changing leagues derailed him. No one except some chucklef*** on our staff thought the guy was good. (I mean, they might be others, but that just means more people were wrong.)

I’ve ranted about this before and will again and nothing can stop me. I’m driven by hate. This is my mortal enemy pick.

There was another new addition Monday with defensive prospect and Devils draft pick Shakir Mukhamadullin joining the team from KHL. He joins recent addition Chase Stillman, who is not available for the opening series.

The “high-end” prospect” will be evaluated as time goes on, Dineen said.

“Fully expect to see him,” during the playoffs, Dineen said.
