I cant say Shaq is ready enough for that big tournament. Anyway thats great he was invited in the camp and has motivation to grow. He is only 20 yo kid(and his birthday was ten days ago). Russian management decide to use more expirienced players. Askarov was cutted too.
Anyway I dont think Shaq was good enough for shot down role, and I think Russian team have more expirienced defensmen for playmaking role.

Mukhamadullin has showed me enough progression in the past year to be quite confident in his future. I'm not sure the vision offensively will come however he will get his fair share of points due to the velocity of his shot alone. Just imagine what 20 pounds of strength will do for puck battles in his own end. Minute munching 3/4 defensmen.

Allegedly Mukhamadullin had a Covid scare which prevented his selection. It's Russia, so it's hard to gauge the accuracy.
All 4 RHD got selected, 4 of the 8 LHD and then an extra LHD got selected as an alternate.

Several of the LHD are older: Nesterov (28), Yakovlev (30) and Sharipzyanov (25). The undrafted Sergei Telegin is only a year older.

Nikishin is only a few months older than Muk, and also a 2020 pic, but his EV scoring probably helped him. The PP spots aren’t likely open.

Not sure why this undersized LHD, who’s only ~7 months older, plays less and has two assists in 33 games is going.

You might recall that Nikishin was another prospect out of Russia I was quite high on in his draft-eligible campaign. I don't get the Chistyakov fascination, he's okay but to me a bit of a fringe player.

Not that some advanced stat cards tell the whole story, but they suggest that Nikishin is better in the offensive zone but that Mukhamadullin is better in transition and in the defensive zone. Who knows, they are both so young and have time to develop. In two years their skills may be entirely different. I think the bigger issue with Russian defenders is which one will adapt first to secure a regular spot in an NHL lineup to avoid the threat to flee back to the KHL that we've seen (Rykov and Kravstov come to mind quickly).

I knew without the card that Muk has mostly only scored on the PP. If the Olympics team has other guys lined up for the PPs then that limits his offensive.

I would like to see more ES scoring from him.

I disagree. I'd like to see less. If he could somehow score negative points at even strength just think how interesting it would be. Presumably it would have to break the time space continuum. I'm down for some quantum mechanics and hyperdimensional non-Euclidian geometry, but that's just me.

UFA just eliminated from the KHL playoffs and their season is now over. Any word on when Mukhamdullin can get over to the US/Utica?
Unless something happened since the Ukraine invasion, I believe Mukhamadullin signed a deal for next season with a bit of a hush-hush understanding that he'd come over after that

Devils signed Mukh to his ELC and then loaned him back to the KHL and supposedly the understanding was his loan would last through next season.

Since the Devils have Mukh signed the team is allowed to talk to him directly so you wonder if the situation may have changed and Mukh may want to come over now. Within the rules I don’t think the KHL could stop him from coming over today if Mukh had changed his mind.

I forgot he signed his ELC

Best case scenario I think would be to get Mukhamadullin here as quickly as possible. We don't know if things will escalate out there. It's better for both Shakir's future and for the Devils.

IMO a bad idea. If they signed his ELC with an unspoken understanding that Muk would return to UFA next year, they should honor that. Devils should protect their reputations and establish that they can be trusted.

2 things.

The world changed and we don’t know what Mukh wants now.

I assume Muhk wanted to stay in the KHL next year but if he changed his mind then no promises are being betrayed.
