Last game of the season for Utica is 24 April KHL playoffs are 4 March – 30 April 2022. His contract can slide even if he plays AHL games. I am quite confident he will be a large piece to a Utica run in the playoffs. The period time to get adjusted IMO.

Usually the AHL trade deadline is when players have to have played for x amount of games to be eligible for playoff rosters. Maybe that's only NHL and ECHL players and Europeans are exempt?

'He’s a blend of everything': Devils prospect Luke Hughes is taking his well-rounded game to the WJC

Part of a Craig Button blurb on Shakir:

“He has a presence not just with his size, but because he’s a really good player. I think people have no idea how good he’s going to be. I find it laughable how some people have talked about Shakir.”
Muk definitely has looked good so far. To be honest I really hope he works out... Holtz too. Otherwise we are f***ed. But Button is Button, take everything he says with a grain of salt. He's always looking to provoke and people are always looking for ways to shit on him or his opinions. Sometimes for a reason, sometimes for no reason. I personally like him and think I see through his sometimes quite odd pre-draft rankings etc but regardless, I need that grain of salt too.

We wouldn't be f***ed if they didn't work out, but there also isn't any real reason to have major doubts about either prospect right now.

The constant hand-wringing is over the top

It's been nearly a decade of losing and playing shit hockey. It gets tiresome. The "constant hand-wringing" is more than surely called for. As of now, my doubts about them are fairly reserved or slight. They've been all right this season. I like Muk as a prospect but I still think he needs some seasoning.

It definitely isn’t over the top and quite frankly, I see it the other way around.

We seem to think that most of our high picks will pan out when none of them have so far and we’re talking about 2 1st overall picks, a 6th overall, 11th overall (12th with the trade back with Ott), etc. Our best looking prospect in years, hands down, has been Dawson Mercer who was picked 18th overall. We’ve had numerous picks higher then that through the years and none have been better out of the gate then Mercer.

It's over the top. Two picks, one of them being outside the top 18 "not working out" which is a vague sentiment to begin with, will not break the future of the team.

That's a dumb overreaction.

Holtz is having a good AHL rookie season. He has looked good at WJC so far. He has parts of his game to work on, but the major thing we drafted him for, his shooting ability, continues to be good.

Muk continues to play well at every level since the day we drafted him. He has done literally nothing to warrant worry over.

The Muk hand-wringing has always been some weird overreaction to some talking twitter heads on draft day and people getting obsessed with other prospects and never based in how the kid has actually played

It’s hard not to be pessimistic when other playersare looking like Quinn >> Holtz , Edvinsson >> Luke Huges , Zegras >> Jack Hughes etc etc. I know it’s still early to say that is definite evaluations but so far it’s looking like that. And it’s very frustrating.

That’s it… I’m putting you in time out.

I thought the Muk pick was weird at the time, but it's not like he was a reach at 6th overall. The 20th pick is more like a late 2nd than a top-10 in terms of historical value. He's a minute munching two-way defenseman on a good team in one of the best leagues on earth and he doesn't turn 20 for another 2 weeks. There's literally nothing he's done since draft day that merits any negativity.

The Mukhamadullin pick will always be weird because unless something changes we will never again have a draft that takes place while some players are in season playing. I cannot imagine Mukhamadullin being the 20th overall pick in July 2020, but it's not hard to imagine drafts that would've changed a decent amount if there were an extra 6 weeks of games for certain players who were technically already playing their D+1 year.
