Should he get one more year to season? Yeah. But you don't hand Severson a huge long contract when you have a 2nd OA bluechip prospect 1 year away from the NHL. So what it comes down to is do we let Severson walk for nothing at the end of the season? Or do we play him up until the deadline then trade him? I think the best course of action would be trade him at the deadline. He's going to bring back a 1st round pick plus. It wouldn't be a great idea to let him walk. The only way I wouldn't trade him is if we're in the playoff picture already but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
i fully agree.

but the devils prospect pool is deep enough without a potential severson trade. if the devils are competitive and in the hunt for a play-off spot, i rather keep severson around for the full year and let him walk next summer. trading him now is like punting with 1 and 10.

I don't, they won't win the Cup even if they make it in.

but they might not make the po without severson.

the time collect assets should be over. prioritizing results and giving the team po experience has imo more value than the potential return for severson.

Look at that keep in and that shot! Future Norris winner me thinks
I think he isn`t as reactive for Norris candidate. I`m not so high on him as on playmaking defenseman, especially on the blueline. I think he is good transitional defenseman, as driver and as first pass guy. But his blue line playmaking isn`t great. Not bad, but I would not prefer to use him as playmaking D in PP. At least for now.

That's a Norris winner in my heart

I just enjoy seeing Defenseman shooting low at and getting it through to the goalie to create rebound. Shows they aren't going for the glory themselves but doing the right thing for the team.

Somethin Subban rarely did as he always tried to score from the blue line and got blocked 80% of the time.

If we decided to have two D for the powerplay I wouldn't mind having muk there just for the low shot. Good for Deflections and rebounds.

I remember when Hischier's face blocked Subban's selfish high slow release shot. Good times.

First time watching video on him. His skating looks really good. He seems to have quick reflexes too. Those two things combined with his size (as in reach) seems like he could pull off some magic at the blue line.

He has improved a ton since last season to my eyes. He looks much quicker and decisive. He is still a bit top heavy but he will fill out his frame as he matures. His shot is heavy as he showed on that assist the goalie couldn’t control. His passing is a bit ordinary but he won’t need to be a creative passer in NJ. He was doing some PK in that video. He will give Bahl and Okhotiyuk a run for their money once he gets settled in North America if he continues to improve.

Hardest shot of the game. He always shot low, partners always could find a way on rebounds. Should not hurt Nico.

I think they need to trade Severson.

IMO, the team should not be making significant adds at the deadline. A couple of low end depth pieces makes sense. But, this team isn’t making a deep run this year. What does Severson return at the deadline? Maybe a first plus B prospect? If you wouldn’t trade a first to bring someone in, why would you hold onto Severson when you could get that back?

I’d love for the Devils to find a way to have Severson stay. I don’t see how, but that’s not my job. But, if there’s no extension in place or at least close by the trade deadline, I think they need to move him.

Maybe Marino’s deal is a little bit of incentive to get Severson to stick around for cheap. Like “we’ll gladly move him and keep you if your next contract is affordable enough.” Not saying it was intended as that, but could have that effect. It also could not at all.

It's not just Marino but the Nemec pick. Severson isn't re-signing. I expect him to get traded at the deadline if Nemec is playing well no matter what the Devils playoff situation is.

From Guadana's latest video it looks like Muk's came has picked up and gotten better, but those on the main board are ripping it apart, what are we missing here that they're seeing?
Most likely nothing. I’ve followed Muk pretty closely (thanks to @Guadana ‘s contributions) and all signs point towards an upwards trajectory. His skating looks better, his defensive game also looks improved, as well as his gap control. He looks way more comfortable out there.

He’s far from a finished product, but I have a hard time not being positive about his progression. He’s always been a project, but I’m pretty comfortable he’ll be a useful and trustworthy D-man for us down the line. I honestly feel that post-draft bias has a lot to do with the negative comments.

You are talking about a few posters at least one of which I'd suggest has an axe to grind and I doubt any of them have watched more than the one video @Guadana recently posted there to form their not at all biased opinions. No, wait, who am I kidding, I'm sure that handful of posters who aren't NJ fans have done nothing but watch KHL games to evaluate the progression of Mukhamdullin's play over the past two seasons.
