I think Florida is going to be very disappointed. When has Jones ever played meaningful hockey? Hey, maybe not. Maybe he excels. I wouldn't hold my breath, though.

My first reaction too then I remember what Forsling, Montour, Mikkola, OEL even Kulikov were before they came to Florida

Like the trade but who is going to swallow up Jones ice time next year?
Levshunov and Rinzel won’t be ready so that leaves us with a RHD side that contains Connor Murphy and Louis Crevier. Not great.

Looking at the FA class there aren’t a lot of great RHD available. Ekblad is going to become Seabrook 2.0. The only kind of decent option is Pionk but I guess he’s probably staying in Winnipeg?

As of now our D next year looks something like this:

Vlasic-Murphy
Korchinski-Crevier
Allan-Del Maestro

Obviously at least two guys needs to come in or we will finish 33 of 32 teams.

I'd be fine with:

Vlasic - Crevier (they've showed good things)
Korchinski - Murphy (Murphy helps shelter)
Allan - Del Mastro (3rd pairing matchups)
Brodie (in case a young one is overwhelmed for a few games)

But yeah I think they will bring in a vet RHD on a 1 year contract.

I'd also be fine with that, it's just the nature of the NHL for young D men. It would also allow to trade Murphy if there is interest, because he's kind of a necessity otherwise at this point.

But max 1 year contract a this point for anyone on the right side.

You know free agency exists right? There will be a lot of stop gaps in defense available

Read what I wrote again. Clearly mentioned the FA class and how it’s not very good.

Yeah we won’t win more than 30 games with that d core. That is five number 5-6d and Alex Vlasic.

Guess it’s time to start saving up for a Gavin McKenna jersey.

Pretty mixed on this one tbh.

1) Love that Jones is gone. Been waiting since 2021 for this.

2) Don't love the retention at all.

3) I'm hopeful that Knight can be our guy going forward. Would be one less question mark to deal with if he can stay above .910 throughout his prime.

4) The 2026 1st is good. Not that Florida had a 2025 1st available, but I'm thankful we're not acquiring picks in this year's shitty draft.

5) Massive L that Kyle couldn't get Samoskevich. I would've taken him over the 1st round pick. I would've added more on our end to make it happen.

Massive L? Lol

Kyle could trade a 7th for McDavid and you’d find something to nit pick.

It is amazing how absolutely unbearable Musto has become. It's a tough task to be the most miserable, negative poster on a forum with BWC and KBS, but by golly, he has done it.

He doesn’t like KD, which is fine I guess. But trying to declare this an L for Davidson is hilarious.

This was about as good as you could hope for based on the circumstances.

I really hope that 1st becomes a 27, unprotected. Who knows what Florida could look like two seasons from now.

Really curious to see what they do about this goalie logjam. I don't know what Knight's contract situation is beyond him having a 4.5M hit, but it's hard to see him going to Rockford.

Soda has played way to well to be sent to Rockford.

Mrazek has played so poorly he has no value even if the Hawks still had a retention spot. Although I suppose they could always give another team a pick or two to retain for Chicago.

Oilers have 5.1M in cap space so wonder if there is any scenario in which Chicago could flip Knight to them.

The answer is obvious

You put Mrazek on waivers and send him to Rockford

The Hawks are rocking Soderblom and Knight as their tandem

I imagine they'll just finish the year with 3 goalies and then deal with Mrazek/Brossoit in the summer.

Going to be an interesting week. Wonder if Donato gets a late first now? Hard to facilitate a trade with higher AAV’s since retention slots used up

I can't help but shake some odd feeling of loyalty that KD has with Mrazek that would stop him from doing that.

Cheap and on pace for 29 goals and 30 assists after last night. He's absolutely worth a 1st.

I suppose sending Mrazek down is an option. But sending a veteran down who you just signed to a two-year extension looks bad. Especially to players and agents around the league.

Especially for a guy you just acquired via trade who has only started 70 games in the NHL so far.

While I'm a big Knight fan, it's not like he's some lock to be a stud starting goalie.

no guarantee with Knight however he has the highest ceiling of all our G prospects in our system and we rid ourselves of the Jones contract... win win

florida is a much better place, and 7 mil is a much better number. like that for jones. got a hockey trade return for the player, and a first rounder for $12.5 million over 5 years of what is probably meaningless cap for the most part. like that for the hawks. good job from kyle. more hockey trades would be awesome. already have plenty of draft stock.

Draft pick update for first two rounds...
2025 - Chicago 1st, Toronto 1st, Chicago 2nd, Dallas 2nd
2026 - Chicago 1st, Florida 1st, Chicago 2nd, Toronto 2nd, New York Islanders 2nd
2027 - Chicago 1st, Chicago 2nd, Vancouver 2nd

To go with...
2024 - 3 first round picks in Levshuniv, Boisvert, Vanacker
2023 - 2 first round picks in Bedard, Moore
2022 - 3 first round picks in Korchinski, Nazar, Rinzel

Kyle is a bum if he doesn't put Mrazek on waivers.

Mrazek shouldn't see a single game again as a Hawk.

You can't acquire Knight and then stick him in a 3-man rotation.

No one wants Mrazek. He's playing like he belongs in the AHL.

He'll probably be bought out this summer. (along with Brodie)
