Sara Orlesky, Jeff Hamilton, Murat Ates, Scott Billeck, and someone whose voice I didn't recognize for sure.

Sara actually asked a pretty tough question, respect to her for holding Chevy's feet to the fire over dodging the previous question.
Assuming KC dodging the question with his typical word salad?

Chevy just emphasized that nobody's been fired, only that they were searching for other options and they would be given the opportunity to apply for their own job

Can never do anything with any resolve.

Well all of them are out of contract so read into it what you want. He didn't fire them but didn't extend them either.

"I spoke to Dave and had a real candid conversation with him and said we would be launching a full-scale search for a head coach and that if he was interested in being apart of that conversation that he had earned himself the right to an interview and consideration for the role."

Ummm. HOW?!?!

He's just being polite/respect, Lowry stepped in and did the short term position......this is common in all businesses. Literally my boss right now is a interim boss while they find a new perm one......and the interim boss can apply for it also.

Just a common respect thing, but Lowry isn't getting the job obviously otherwise he would of been given the job.

Also makes sense why they gave the job to Lowry now, being that all the asst coaches contracts up at season end so they knew then they would be hiring a new HC and the new HC would want his own people.

Downplayed more than outright dodged, basically said players are emotional from failing to meet expectations. Sara asked him why the comments from players recently felt different than how he was trying to portray them.

Yea near the end they actually kinda called him out on sidestepping the culture issue questions by pointing out that his team is publicly saying there is a culture issue and he didn't really have an answer.

It's like this organization can't or refuses to use the word "fired".

You have asked your coaches to re-apply for their own jobs. You are telling them you are looking at replacing them because you are not happy with the job they did, but you will take them into consideration. BULLSHIT. You have sent the message and you want them all to walk away on their own so you don't have to actually tell them they are "fired". What the f*** is wrong with this management team? Pull the bandage off and get on with the job at hand.
Exactly!

You can't half-fire someone just like you can't be half-pregnant!

That is what is holding this team back.

They're afraid of being seen as the bad guys.

They need to man-up and be ruthless.

My take.....

Absolutely nothing has happened.....yet.
He said Lowry, Huddy and Compon don't have contracts and that they are free to interview during the coaching search they are planning to do. If you have to interview for a job you already had, that is usually a polite way of saying that you wont be getting your job back. It's firing them without having to actually fire them.

Yeah, I think they're being nice to him with the token interview. But I don't think he has a shot ... so why even bother?

I doubt he even accepts the interview myself. I think it was to show that they understand the situation wasn't good and to at least give him a chance to speak. It costs them nothing and might build up some good will with other coaches.

As much as people want it, we don't need to kick people to the curb unceremoniously.

I mean he was being nice when talking about the assistants but they aren't being renewed unless the new coach wants them back and I don't see that happening.

I tend to agree with you. I certainly hope it's a wholesale change. Just not convinced yet.

I mean what is he actually going to say, "Yeah we had a number of players that are an issue in our room that we will move out, Scheifele has sucked ass in his end for years and is pissing his teammates off so he is out"

He has to deal with these players and maintain leverage if he is planning on moving them.

I'm not saying the Jets should fire the coach while he is waiting for a cab at the airport after a game, but if you want to replace him, man up, tell him you are moving on from him, and don't pretend that's not the case by telling him he can re-apply for his own job.

You can acknowledge that there is a problem without getting into specifics. He went out of his way several times to downplay and deny that a culture problem actually exists.

Acknowledge that there are fires that need to be put out.

I know Chevy has always been this way but I was disappointed with his evasivness and lack of genuine disappointment. Perhaps his new contract put him in a good mood. I also wouldn't be surprised he's purposely using the exit interviews not being done yet as an excuse of not being forthcoming with the media. Perhaps he should of delayed talking to the media a day or 2

I'm just of the opinion words mean little here. His actions or lack of them will actually say what he thinks of the culture/leadership.

He didn't want to throw anyone under the bus today, it doesn't mean he actually believes there aren't issues.

I liked that he was open to listening to the players perspective on what they want for a coach and for other things. I'm sure he has a good grasp on what the players think is the issue.

I can buy Chevy won't publicly say there's huge problems. He won't shit on the team like that publicly

Let's see what, or if any transactions happen. That'll be the most telling.

Correct

Any GM coming out flaming his players/coaches is dumb as f*** TBH and just burning bridges. Chevy is playing it with his cards to his chest and lets judge by his actions.

With the comment of letting them interview for their jobs (Lowry at least - asst's will be hired by new coach).

I'm thinking that it is Chevy doing a huge "cover your butt" move - what if there are no real coaches who apply and interview for the role? Stringing Lowry along with an interview could be looking at that 3% chance that nothing else really comes along and they need to stick with Senior Lowry for another season - or until mid-season when a real coach gets fired for a bad start to the season?

Really hope not...but could see some reasoning here for this.

Heck, I bet Pascual Vincent is kicking himself a bit for moving on for "opportunity" when right now is available the "opportunity" that he was waiting for all along!!!
