The Jets should not hire James Patrick as the d-coach, but they should hire him as the "head coach." Look what Craig Berube did in St.Louis, and all his playing days he was basically a goon. Patrick has good coaching experience as an assistant, and now doing great things with the ICE.Do you think that is how it works? I don't know how many head coaches have the power to bring in all their own staff, usually it's a guy or two to lean on.
Let's say the Jets want to hire James Patrick as the d-coach. Because it's quite likely he is back in the NHL sooner than later with the success the Ice are having. Does the organization ask the head coach their thoughts first? I'd say the interview process still goes through Chevy and Zinger like it did with the original coaching staff that had no ties in 2011, and has been replaced piecemeal. Hiring Patrick might net his assistant Josh Green too, who has ties to the Moose, and to potential coaches like Carlyle and Vigneault. So you might have some connections, but I think the GM still controls the vision of the team.
Patrick is also a defensive minded coach, and was a great defenseman in the NHL, so I'd like to see him get the job.
