How long do you think it will be until we start hearing rumours about a new head coach?

I assume we will be interviewing candidates throughout Summer, but I also get the feeling that Mgmt wouldnt follow through on a mass firing unless they had potential candidates in mind.

I wonder if anyone's expressed interest in coming to the Peg.

Firing Kompon seems a bit harsh. AFAIK his role was running the PP and the PP has actually been pretty solid:

#7th in the league since Kompon joined

It has held up pretty well even after losing Laine:

#11th in the league in the post-Laine era

I would have held on to both Kompon and Flaherty.
You have to let a new coach choose their entire staff, particularly a special teams coach. I’m not sure goalie coaches count. Most Head coaches are likely just glad to have someone who deals with them.

To be fair, Seravalli said that they would not be returning, not that they would be fired. This season was hard for Kompon, who actually tried stepping down before the season started due to his wife's cancer diagnosis. Methinks this was more of a mutual thing than a unilateral decision.

Not disagreeing. Im thinking there's 2 reasons. Optics (Jets need to "clean house") and probably want new coach to have full control on who he hires. That freedom probably could help woo potential candidates to consider the Jets position.

The silver lining on missing the playoffs with a great roster: cutting out the rot.

Let’s do this right. Chevy has been given the green light to do his thing for 3 more years, I hope he has the courage to do what it takes to make a winner.
I don’t think the roster is “ great “

Can you name 1 forward other then lowry that plays average defense?

How many of our forwards can we say are horrible defensively?

My guess is that they will want the new head coach in place by the draft. That gives the new coach time to hire their assistants and formulate their systems and plans for camp etc.

Defensive play isn't a player thing alone, its influenced largely by the system they been told to play. As you've heard from various of our players and the media.......the coaching has been terrible all year and TBH has been for a few years and that impacts the defensive play of the entire team.

I would like to see our forwards with a different coach and actual NHL defensive strategy first before I label them all horrible defensively.

Also if we get a coach that focuses more on sustained and dynamic offensive schemes with this group we may spend less time in our end.

Yeah. Letting the new Head Coach pick his staff provides more incentive for more qualified Coaches to sign with Winnipeg over other teams.

Also, starting the interview process before other teams finish playoffs is a good move. Maybe we'll sign someone before better teams get a chance to make an offer.

If this is the startegy, then we might hear about the position being filled sooner rather than later.

Either-way, this is good news all around.

The promote Huddy stuff was just complete nonsense. I didn’t truly believe they would hang onto Lowry, mostly because the optics would have been horrible. Having said that, this team’s reluctance to make difficult but necessary decisions causes uneasiness.
Pretty much this. I’ve been joking about promoting Huddy for a while because obviously that wasn’t gonna happen … but the way TNSE operates sometimes it does make you wonder.

Axing all the people today was what I expected was gonna happen. I’m a bit surprised Flaherty wasn’t let go too, even if just in collateral damage, but I’m fine with him staying. It was Huddy and Lowry that really needed to go.

It could be that he expressed to the team that he didn't want to come back due to his wife's condition. Going to wait to see if Chevy expands on it today.

I hope it's mutual with Kompon. If not then it doesn't seem very nice to fire a guy whose results (as far as the fan perception of his role is concerned) are pretty solid and who has been going through tough things in his personal life but still been a soldier for the organization.

Chevy is on Cjob today at noon
About efffin' time.

Looking forward to the Huddy tribute video, a few seconds of meaningless bellowing and head-scratching, maybe a set play chart flipped rightside up, all whipping by at the speed of the side effects list in a drug advert.

Jeebus this team. At least it's happening.
you forgot about him being the pocket pool champ for ten plus years

I wonder if this was something Chevy had to do to get his 3 year extension? Interested how Chipman would have reacted if Chevy had come out and said, nope , these coaches are my guys.

Maybe Chevy finally realized at least for Huddy that just because you won all those Stanley Cups playing with a guy called Gretzky, it didn't mean you actually ever knew how to play defense.
I’d say it was likely the opposite… Chipman being over loyal and KC saying.. “you want me here? Let me be the GM and stop interfering.”

I take no pleasure in watching people lose their jobs.

I've taken no pleasure in firing people especially people who have been long time employees.

I was fired from one of my first jobs when I was young so I know how it feels.

Given the locker room issues and the poor play this move was necessary.
