Probably both and possibly a players who can't play D factor.. but don't think we drafted guys like KC even Scheif Ehlers Laine at the time cuz of their stellar D game so you gotta coach them up or they have to learn it on their own? I dunno.
Point is.. it's not overly surprising that some of our forwards including the captain aren't very good in our zone..
But Scheif by my eye test looks more like that 2 way Center he was drafted to be.
Ehlers looks great. KC is a concern but perhaps if you get him away from Wheeler? He improves also? Just a weird thing.. KC/Blake = garbage defensively but they are attached at the hip for some reason. Not easy for any center in the D zone..
Not sure why we got away from what worked in 2018.. ya the D changed but... We got away from what worked in 2019 with that same d group really.. internal issues.. ruffled feathers.
Group been lackluster ever since.

He won't be but as a former goaltender who did play a bit in the DUB...
I wouldn't blame him if he did.. bottom line.. Helle Is our only chance to make the playoffs. If he decides he's tired of this shit.. which he isn't and won't cuz he's a legit pro... This team would be a lottery team.
With him we are top 2 3 4 in prob both the north and central divisions.
Without we are ottawa. He's not a problem. He won't be either cuz Connor ain't wired like that.

Losing to Ottawa doesn't really bother me.. u can't win them all.. we weren't going 8 and 0 against them... They work hard... They are just very young and inconsistent but they work really hard and show great effort. Honestly if the Jets showed half of the Sens effort most nights we'd be a top team in the League. The effort level or perhaps blah play of dump n chase and our pk and just usages of players. Wheeler still sucked today... Promoted tho. It's all so..
Others coaches probably don't even watch game film of the Jets. They are so predictable and stale and just its boring.
For a team full of offensively gifted forwards... We are not fun to watch. We have fun players like Ehlers and Lowry Appleton types but as a team we play a style that is boring and so far from what actually worked in 2018... It just sucks watching the same thing over n over.

So why does he always appear to be struggling with one on one coverage, especially along the walls, behind or in front of the net?
Anyway, looks like the numbers tell a different story - I'll look harder for what the numbers see and I don't.

You are probably right in what he's doing in those areas... He probably does strugle in that area, but just makes up for it elsewhere.

This team wants to play on the perimeter on offense and in the slot on defense. Someone should tell PoMo he's got it backwards

Frustrating loss. I actually felt that we played pretty well. Better than the two previous games.
People commenting on here, like the world is falling apart ? They only lost by 1 goal, and it was a bit of a fluky goal, to a team that was very desperate, who also have beaten Toronto and Montreal.
It's not like we got blown out here, and we only allowed 2 goals -- not to bad an effort in my mind, so give Ottawa a little credit for their effort. Most of the time, if you only allow 2 goals, you usually win the game -- so not too bad defensively.
If PLD was in the lineup -- we may have won that game as well. All in all, we've pretty much dominated that team, so let's see what we can do against the better teams like Toronto and Montreal.

Seriously, though, we need better Morrissey. Pair him with Demelo and leave them together.
I'm going to preface this comment by saying that I like Paul Maurice - he's articulate and thoughtful, and will take a bullet for his players. His character is 100%.
In my mind though if you're playing in a tied game, or with a one goal lead or deficit, you need to be playing to win. Playing to survive to post-regulation is a passive choice, particularly so when hockey these days rewards energy, speed and aggression. We tried to play it safe instead of playing to win, and paid the price.
I don't know if this is by design via Maurice, but if it is it needs to stop immediately. If it isn't, then he needs to get that under control yesterday.
More troubling though is that we are frequently not prepared to play at puck drop, and routinely not motivated to play high tempo hockey. We have some great skaters on this team, and they are often not ready to skate. This is a preparation and motivation issue, which falls squarely on Maurice's shoulders. He either isn't doing enough to get the guys going, or what he is doing isn't working. Either way something needs to change.
Helle is fine. Pionk was expecting Helle to pass the puck to him and in a fluke it popped off his stick and into the corner where neither could play it. Sucks, but not anyone's fault. The bigger issue is that we have the firepower to put up 3-4 goals a night, but we did not do so today because we were uninterested.

Strange, I've been thinking that Helles been pretty good with the puck this season.
