I'm not going to stay on this forum long, because it's not going to be a happy place today, and that has little to do with the weather.
I'll share these observations.
This team has a mental fragility right now, which is compounded with each close game loss. That's 3 points at least we've lost this year in the final 90 seconds, 2nd in the final 10 seconds. I think those things get into your head, and would have been a lot different had Lowry's line scored late. Curiously, and I'll let the coach explain this one, Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler took the last shift, which is not the guys you would think to put out, based on statistical information, in the late stages of a tie game.
Tucker Poolman is a breath of fresh air, really enjoy watching him play, he's becoming a very complete defenseman. It's his d-partner, supposedly our best d-man, who is quite often out of position, leading to dangerous counterattacks.
Neal Pionk is an offensive gift, I'm still not sold on Forbort, he's getting beat regularly in the defensive zone. If there's room for Samberg, that's the spot I would have in mind, if only we could rely on Josh defensively again.
I like Stanley-De Melo as a d-pairing and would like to see more, even at BooBoo's expense.
Our forwards maybe don't have the speed that they should, having 4 over 30 forwards out there. The onus is on the wingers. The only line that stood out to me was Lowry's line, every game he puts in a good game.
Thought Lewis had a lot of good 4th line shifts too.
I knew we were going to lose to Ottawa sooner or later, it's not as though we are overwhelmingly more talented, probably not the better skating team either. It's a tough loss, but this is a resilient team, hopefully they bring a better effort on the Western front.
