You may not like Wente's writing style, but there are two premises in the article - 1) Boys/men are fundamentally different than girls / women, and 2) society, and in particular our education system, is biased against the boys/men.... which is leading to the 70:30 ratio she cites in University population.

I don't know for certain that the 70:30 number is correct. But as a parent of one boy and one girl, I can certainly tell you that premise #1 is correct.

For premise #2 .... as an older guy, I can tell you that much has changed in our society, compared to when I was a teen, w.r.t. how males are portrayed pop culture, and what's expected of them in school and subsequently in their professional life.

But, I never buy the whole "blame society for my problems" angle, so I believe there must be some other factor.

Humans are extreme creatures. When we swing the pendulum, we go hog wild with it.

There definitely was a huge problem in the past with society pushing females into the role of homemaker, and males into the job world. To fix the problem, we went overboard pushing females into academia, while ignoring the males.

We need to find a balance, and focus on promoting individual choice and opening up as many academic opportunities for all the kids out there. We can't afford to let any youngster with talent or ability slip through the cracks.

Yeah I think I paid 150 or something for NYR/OTT Game 6 a couple years back and I was 5 rows behind Glenn Healy.
Regular season vs Edmonton they're charging 160 a seat for the 200s.

That show has jumped the shark a little bit IMO. Jon Stewart doesn't have the same bite he used to have, and his humor and mannerisms are getting a bit repetitive.

I usually like his rants at the beginning of the show. But lately even the rants felt somehow misdirected or not very funny.

His guest interviews though I could always live without, unless it was political.

That show has jumped the shark a little bit IMO. Jon Stewart doesn't have the same bite he used to have, and his humor and mannerisms are getting a bit repetitive.

It's roughly the same show it's always been, it's just that Colbert went like 304 levels above him in the satire department, and after the Colbert Repor established itself as a regular thing, the Daily Show seemed a bit tame in comparison.

It's a victim of it's own success, really.


Speaking of the shows of ex-TDS alumns, I can't reccomend "Last Week Tonight" strongly enough. It's probably my favorite show on television, or on any other vision for that matter. John Oliver has done AMAZING things with the format he's been given.
