Speaking of the shows of ex-TDS alumns, I can't reccomend "Last Week Tonight" strongly enough. It's probably my favorite show on television, or on any other vision for that matter. John Oliver has done AMAZING things with the format he's been given.
I don't have HBO, but whatever excerpts I've seen online look really good. He's got the bite Jon Stewart has been lacking lately. Wonder if Oliver was one of the good writers Stewart has been missing lately.

I can recommend a lot of other great games if you'd like

I hate John Oliver, all he does he riff on the fact that he's British, he's got nothing else although Last Week Tonight is much better than I thought it would be even if it's a bit preachy at times

Stewart's been around for a long time, his schtick isn't as powerful anymore, I don't think he's missing anything

Yes please! I am suddenly blood thirsty for gaming.

Haven't been this mad about it since I was 10

I should probably be careful lol.

He never really does it on LWT, so I guess you're safe to watch it?

I've watched it a few times and enjoyed it

But I just can't stand the guy: his schtick is just not appealing to me. He's like a higher-pitched, more over-the-top Stewart. It's why I always preferred Colbert, he was so much more subtle in his humour but in a very in-your-face way, that was very unique I found.

Also: does anyone know of a website that sells boardgames and ships internationally?

I need to replace my copy of Dominion, mine just got lost in a minor house flood (literally the only thing that was damaged was the game, because one of the kids left it on the floor, under a window that was open during a downpour).

And before you suggest it, no, Amazon.com is not an option. Amazon orders have a tricky habit of "disappearing" here in Indonesia, curiously enough it always happens as soon as it leaves the Indo distribution centers. Almost like people in the post offices are stealing them, BUT THAT COULDN'T POSSIBLY EVER HAPPEN, RIGHT INDONESIA?!?

Hmmm I dunno about that. If you were in ottawa I might have sold you mine, the girlfriend and I bought it and only played it once. She got a part time job at the comic book shop so I've been going a little nuts buying board games :P That place gives an awesome discount to employees

OK, also preferrably a place that doesn't charge $30+ to ship the damned thing.

I'm already going to get nailed with a luxury tax import fee when it gets here... the game retails for about $35 normally, so I can expect to pay an extra $20-25 to get it out of customs, because "luxury goods".

So that $35 game is going to be a minimum $55-60 before I even get to the shipping part.

... ugh, maybe I should just wait. I wish I knew I was going to need to replace it when I was in Ottawa like a month ago.

The game is awesome! You should give it another chance... assuming you like card games, that is.

I probably should. It just got lost in the shuffle i guess, no pun intended!

I'm picking up a new game once a month or so, plus everyone always wants to play the Catans and the Ticket to Rides when we have game nights.

Picked up Eclipse recently, and have Stone Age on order. I blame Will Wheaton for the last one

Definitely sounds like the right idea

They probably have some cool local board games over there anyway, might be worth checking it out

Damned Wheaton, and his excellent web series! A pox on his house!

I also saw that episode of Table Top. I think the game looks good, but I also think that the takeaway for me from that episode is "it would be fun to play a boardgame with Jesse Cox".

Not really, no. I've looked. Their idea of what a boardgame is over here is like... Uno. And Monopoly is REALLY big here. And anything that is Angry Birds-themed. Oh, and Mancala (which is super-underrated as far as ancient board games go, IMO)

The one thing that I HAVE found here is this guy in South Java who makes pre-existing board games out of gemstones for super cheap.

I bought a solid stone carved Scrabble board (like, even all the letter pieces are carved stone) for like... $70? It's awesome. It's a solid stone board, in a wooden frame with drawers to keep all the pieces in, and when you flip the board over, and it's a chessboard, and I have all the carved stone chess pieces as well. I ordered some solitaire-type marble games as well.

I'm ordering a Catan set from him, but it means I have to source the cards somewhere else, since he can only carve the hard pieces & tiles.

I always have wanted to pick up Dominion.

My problem is that most board games I like need 3 or 4 to play and be found fun. Need to find a few more that are good for 2 players.

Mass Effect is the bomb! In the midst of a replay of ME1. Just hitting Feros. God, I love that series minus five minutes of ME3. The other game I really got into lately was Bioshock Infinite. A few plot holes aside, great game. Compelling.

Sorry to hear about your copy of Dominion, BT. You might have some luck searching the Marketplace on BoardGameGeek. If nothing else, you might find a place in the near vicinity that won't cost you shipping from N.A.

sask, Risk is the only surefire way I've found to lose friends. Especially when everyone is playing with the "take Australia and you're unstoppable" approach.

And Cael, couldn't agree more. I impulse-bought The Resistance at last year's ComicCon — GREAT game, but I've played it a grand total of twice only because it's so hard to gather 5 people simultaneously.

Yeah, I have Munchkin but never played it because I can't get people together with scheduling.

Smallworld technically is two player but kinda is boring without at least a third.

I need to get the gf playing XWing with me... Though I don't think she's really into tactical/skirmish type games.

Munchkin's a load of fun at first but it gets old in a hurry. Worth bringing to a night of drinking or something, though, it's so quick and easy to pick up that people are usually down for a game.
So Spider-man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe...
