I don't think there are any areas around Woodroofe that are so bad you'd want to avoid them at night, but I would highly advise against renting an apartment anywhere near a 2x3 block radius around the shopping center at the corner of Woodroffe & Baseline.

There is a set of apartments there affectionately known to locals as "The Four Holes", aka the Baseline Court Apartments. Do yourself a favor and never even consider them. They are so bad that the complex is a running joke amongst West End Ottawans.

Also, the Minto Apartments on Baseline & Navaho (I think they're called "Aventura", or something like that) are pretty sketchy, but not so bad if you don't mind smelling weed 24/7 and having unreliable (but not necessarily bad) neighbors. It's a building right next to Algonquin College, so there are definitely going to be some party apartments nearby.

Outside of those two spots, everywhere else is super-liveable. Even some of the other lower-income houses like Woodvale Green in Craig Henry, or some of the spots in Tanglewood, they're all totally fine. The Woodfield corridor, outside of the Four Holes and possibly those Minto apts, is very safe.

A running joke? How so? Just poorly run/dirty, etc? Not crime related?

I was looking into Greenbank Towers a bit, are they a good apartment complex?
Also, any general advice about the Ottawa area? Places not to miss for food, entertainment, etc?

I need it to be 2023 and fast!

Times passes so slowly and yet so blindingly fast these days.

What was it about and how did you bomb it?

A book called Outliers (really darn good book btw, one of my favourites)

I had some really good points, just my sentence structure was off and stuff like that.

My sentence structure has always been bad, so meh. I didn't absolutely blow it, was just a reactionary thing. I passed the essay, but well below my usual standard.

English has always been my kryptonite.

The "FourHoles" have been extensively renovated and now charge above market rents, it has been years since they have been converted from the drug-infested dumps to nice apartments. The people behind it , however, overestimated their returns a wee bit, though.

It is a high rent, high turnover area. I would steer away from Greenbank and move North on Woodroffe, if possible, it is in your price range. Are you looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom?

There are tons of great places, where are you coming from in Ontario? It depends on where you are going to be I guess. Off the top of my head, there is Lone Star (TexMex), The Works (burgers), Giovanni's (Italian), lot of good sushi places, we can be here all day!

Entertainment, there is the Byward Market (bars), the obvious hockey, CFL, NASL teams, Lansdowne Live, plenty of places to entertain.

Went to "Buffet Des Continents" in Gatineau to see if it lived up to the hype.

It didn't. Not a lot of good food there, even though there is a huge selection.

Why steer away from Greenbank? What's north on Woodroffe? Just a single preferably. I'm a student so price range isn't huge.
Also the location in my info there is a little premature, haha. I'm currently still in the Maritimes.
But thanks for the food info and such!

2 kidney stones in one week! I basically feel like I gave birth to twins.

That is my biggest fear in life.

Next time PM me and I'll go through your essay if you want. I am an english major after all.

Really? Thanks Smeddy! Will definitely take up that offer should I need to.

On another note, I just spent a good couple of hours researching existentialism. Extremely interesting.

Anybody in here play league of legends at all? I've gotten into it, so if anybody feels like playing a bit, let me know! :)

Yes definitely. I used to struggle with the exact same things, I know how much of a difference a second eye can make. In a nerdy kind of way, I also enjoy reading/editing other people's essays.
