Have it on the shelf, looked at it and passed it over several times, but never got rid of it.

You’re making me want to go grab it.

You are gonna get somewhat bored like 100 pages through but you’ll have a weird sense of of foreboding nonetheless.

Ending is both triumphant and terrifying.

It’s extremely English in that even in the face of extinction folks refuse to give up their sense of decorum lol.

The Mont st Marie golf course reminds a bit of the one at Calabogie. I find most of the ski hills have great golf courses.

Who’s a better living director than Aronofsky?

Pi (1998)
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
The Fountain (2006)
The Wrestler (2008)
Black Swan (2010)
Noah (2014)
Mother! (2017)
The Whale (2022)

Where are you getting from what I've said that conservatives are racists? Or that they're all climate change deniers?

You must be able to see the ass hairs on a fruitfly if you can read between the lines and see that. It was a throwaway comment about someone being a boomer and now I have several people thinking I live in a black and white world where all old people and conservative voters are racist idiots?

Edit: man this is what I f***ing get for interacting with the board troll. I just wanna talk about golf, man.
I'm not a board troll. I asked what the trend was, and you gave me this giant angry rant. I don't want to argue or make anyone upset, so I let it go.

I just wanted to talk about partying in the 1980s.

High on the IMDBLSD list

Is the 1980 movie "The Stuntman" ... not to be confused with similarly named later releases.

Now available for free on Youtube. 1980 Altered States isn't bad either (under the influence) but no where near as much fun as The Stuntman

Okay, I'm not responding to everything, but it's common knowledge that the change from 'Global Warming' to 'Climate Change' was because people would dismiss global warming when an extra cold winter came along, or Texas got snow, etc etc. Climate Change better represents what is happening. The warming oceans are affecting weather patterns and altering local climates from the patterns we are used to and built our lives around.

The Wrestler was so good. I never like Requiem for a dream.

He's on a bit of a cold streak.

I'd argue Fincher, PT Anderson, Villeneuve, Scorsese, and Tarantino are the big names that have the edge right now in terms of delivering consistently high quality output, but there's also a lot of great younger talent that's building up some impressive resumes.

I'd hold Nolan up again Aronofsky, personally. Either way, it's an awfully short list. Watched The Whale the other night, what a tragic yet compelling story.

The Stuntman was a great movie, from what I remember. Very clever ending.

I'm a huge Fincher and Villeneuve fan. I love your disrespect to Nolan.

I like Nolan a lot. He takes big swings at things. Unfortunately Tenet was a miss. But in terms of consistently aiming to deliver 'event' movies he's one of the few left that isn't a franchise.

I also think with Nolan he's got a few flaws that he seems intent on making as glaring as possible. I honestly think he'd do better directing movies that other people have written. Most of the big directors take that approach and it works well. Same goes for Nick Refn. Let the writers write.

Alex Garland deserves some love here.

Ex Machina (2014)
Annihilation (2018)
Men (2022)

All excellent.

He also did some writing with/for Danny Boyle (another awesome director).

28 Days Later (2002)
Sunshine (2007)
(one really bad narrative choice in the third act stops this from being the best science fiction movie of the last 20 years; still pretty close)

Also Ari Aster. Hereditary (2018) is straight up scariest movie I have ever seen; I couldn't sleep alone for days. f***ing mental.

Edit: If anyone wants a good climate change movie watch First Reformed (2017).

I wasn't talking about you, didn't mean to make it seem like I was. My b.

This all stemmed from me replying to that Tnuoc clown, that's whom I was referring to.

Lol, I am not even a conservative, nor am I a boomer, so I didn't think you were talking to me. It's all good. I think we just got mixed up. I wasn't trying to troll or anything.

Imagine Miami Vice meets Frankie Goes To Hollywood meets the first Mad Max movie.

That was pretty much the decade for me.
I'm a tiny bit younger than you, so I mostly experienced the late 80s music scene, which was excellent, especially the Manchester scene: Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans UK. It was the beginning of acid house and stuff. I was too young/tame/obedient to do crazy stuff like drop acid though...
