Any preference between La Bete/Manitou/Laurentian? Hitting up Tremblant for a fantasy football draft in August and wouldn't mind hitting the links at some point.
La Bête is a very good course but it has one goofy hole where you have to hit a 180 yd tee shot followed by a 210 yd approach shot. Other than that hole it’s very good.

Manitou is a par3 course but it is fun.

You didn’t mention Le Diable — that’s my favourite course up there.

La Bete was my favorite course that I played around there. Le Diable was great aswell, but I personally had a better experience at La Bete. Honorable mention to Le Geant aswell. Hit up Montbello on the way up too if you can, that's another great course in the area ish.

So does voting conservative just automatically make you a racist climate denier? And does being a boomer just automatically make you a conservative?
No, there are very few absolutes. There are trends though.

Would've loved to hit Le Diable/Le Géant, but apparently it's hosting the Quebec Am around the time I'm up. Appreciate the recs, may have to find my way through Montebello for a second round. Cheers!

I can honestly say I don't understand your position on the Ozone layer.

A few posts back you posted a handwritten memo that stated in the 90's it was "supposed to be gone in 10 years", which "didn't happen" but resulted in "More Taxes".

Now you're posting a link to an article that says there is still a significant hole over the Antarctic, but that the actions taken in 1987 (banning CFCs, which is definitely not the same as raising taxes) are working and it is slowly shrinking.

Do you actually believe both of these things, which are obviously at odds with each other?

Getting into arguments and triggering other posters is the point for some folks.

It's silly, but humans gonna human.

What's the trend? All of the conservative voters I know and have met vote conservative because they make a lot of money not because they are racist climate deniers.

Where are you getting from what I've said that conservatives are racists? Or that they're all climate change deniers?

You must be able to see the ass hairs on a fruitfly if you can read between the lines and see that. It was a throwaway comment about someone being a boomer and now I have several people thinking I live in a black and white world where all old people and conservative voters are racist idiots?

Edit: man this is what I f***ing get for interacting with the board troll. I just wanna talk about golf, man.

If you vote for the racist climate deniers to save a few points on your taxes kind of makes you a racist climate denier in a way, no?

Down here at least.

If the other side is doing nothing but wasting the money, wouldn't that bother you?

If your options are that 90 year old child sniffer or Donald MAGA Trump I dunno you're screwed wither way.

Other side at least tries man.

One side’s goal is obstruction and it’s a feedback loop. You claim that government is useless and then you actively sabotage it and say “see, look how useless it is!”

Biden has had a pretty productive presidency and the way the US has handled post-COVID inflation so far has been really impressive (J POW and Yellen deserve a lot of credit).

The obstructionists are also fully anti-democracy at this point. So like I don’t really care how much they’re gonna lower my taxes. Someone that votes R solely cause they’re rich and want to save money has lost the plot.

I dont think I've heard of Laurentian before. It's just outside of Tremblant? How would you compare it to the local courses there (bete, diable etc)
Sorry, it’s actually named Royal Laurentian.

On the highway to Montreal, about 20 minutes south of Tremblant.

Honestly, it's unfair for me to judge Biden because of the COVID era. I am speaking up here because I don't know many Americans, and the ones I know have to pay a 50% tax on poker winnings and are not allowed to write off losses, so I guess every % they can save matters a lot to them. I think up here a lot of people on both sides are just sick of Trudeau, so we will see what happens.

The tax on gambling and lottery winnings here is beyond stupid.

Income tax is hilariously low though. Many folks, myself included, pay an all-in effective tax rate below 25%. It’s not the problem lol.

It's weird because you can register as a business if your business is poker, I believe, but if you're a business owner or have another job, your poker winnings are 50%, and if you don't file them, you risk prison time.

In that case, you get involved in municipal and state/provincial politics and getting better people from the grassroots level into the political arena. You know, so you don't get stuck between two horrendous choices down the road at the top level.

But...that also takes one hell of a lot of time and effort. (Which most folks don't have.) It's a catch-22. The whole political system sucks and is designed to drain the soul out of good people.

Checked out Billy Talent and Alexisonfire at Rock the Park in London. The venue seems to get worse every year, but when you have amazing bands, the nights are dope. Lovely weekend

Speaking of the end of the world, anyone ever read 'On the Beach' by Shute?

Pretty incredible novel. So mundane yet heartbreaking all at once. The last 15 or so pages hit me harder than any book or movie has in some time.
Have it on the shelf, looked at it and passed it over several times, but never got rid of it.

You’re making me want to go grab it.

- an outcome of the above point is that you are increasingly skeptical of any research or study… and in my case the source is irrelevant (academia, private sector, public sector - all equally dubious). I have a pretty strong background in math (statistics in particular) so I will look closely at the data and analysis in a study that suggests a conclusion that I’m leery of.

And yet a good deal of older people swallow up stuff they find on the internet with no skepticism at all. I used to think kids glued to YouTube was one of the worst developments in the contemporary world, now I think it's pensioners glued to YouTube.

FWIW I'm in my mid-40s and although I've gained more depth of insight over the years, I still stand by everything I believed from about 16 on. Mostly what's grown is my lack of faith in humanity to overcome its pursuit of comfort at the expense of everything else.

There is an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence that refutes your point of view but you, like the typical boomer you are, get your info from cherry picked youtube videos that act as an echo chamber for your opinions.

well there is a LOT of current data based scientific evidence that refutes the alarmist computer based models projections from 25 years ago, and this also explains why the Alarmists transitioned “Global Warming” to “Climate Change” when they had to acknowledge the 20 year pause in rising temperatures, the decline in the number of hurricanes ( they predicted more) as data that contradicted their predictions rolled in.

I could post much more to illustrate this….. but it is clear you’ve bought into Alarmist propaganda and are in your own echo chamber…… but can you explain to yourself why they, the Alarmists keep moving the goalposts once their predictions come and go, without coming true, and they don’t practice what they preach, if they actually believed what they’ve been selling for decades?
