I'm a tiny bit younger than you, so I mostly experienced the late 80s music scene, which was excellent, especially the Manchester scene: Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans UK. It was the beginning of acid house and stuff. I was too young/tame/obedient to do crazy stuff like drop acid though...

90s Madchester Scene - not 80s IMHO

EDIT: just googleed it.... was late 80s --> Madchester - Wikipedia
808 state!

Alex Garland deserves some love here.

Ex Machina (2014)
Annihilation (2018)
Men (2022)

All excellent.

He also did some writing with/for Danny Boyle (another awesome director).

28 Days Later (2002)
Sunshine (2007)
(one really bad narrative choice in the third act stops this from being the best science fiction movie of the last 20 years; still pretty close)

Also Ari Aster. Hereditary (2018) is straight up scariest movie I have ever seen; I couldn't sleep alone for days. f***ing mental.

Edit: If anyone wants a good climate change movie watch First Reformed (2017).
Alex garland is amazing. I’m so pumped he’s making movies. If he had a few more under his belt it would be a tough pick for the top.

Also like Jeff Nichols.
Midnight Special, Mud, Take Shelter.

Take Shelter. My God what a masterpiece.

Love John Shannon.

He's on a bit of a cold streak.

I'd argue Fincher, PT Anderson, Villeneuve, Scorsese, and Tarantino are the big names that have the edge right now in terms of delivering consistently high quality output, but there's also a lot of great younger talent that's building up some impressive resumes.
You didn’t like Mother or Noah? I know some didn’t. Personally love them for what they are. I haven’t seen the whale yet.

No hockey so watching more movies lately.

Who’s a better living director than Aronofsky?

Pi (1998)
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
The Fountain (2006)
The Wrestler (2008)
Black Swan (2010)
Noah (2014)
Mother! (2017)
The Whale (2022)

The Fountain is one of my top movies of all time, but Requiem I couldn't even finish watching. I have a healthy apprehension about watching his films because sometimes he errs too hard on the soul-crushing side of things. I haven't even seen the last three on that list and reviews of The Whale made me feel like it probably falls into the category of ones that aren't up my alley

Add in the first 10 minutes of 28 Weeks Later. If they made the entire movie in this way, it would've been a masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant filming and atmosphere all around.

I was just looking for the fountain on one of my streaming services the other day but couldn’t find it. Don’t know where to rewatch it right now.
I know Noah and mother are kind of controversial because they deal with religion and tradition and human behaviour but that’s why I love them. Especially Noah(one of my favs). I get what you’re saying about the whale. Haven’t been disappointed by any of his movies yet though so I’m half pumped for it.

Any preference between La Bete/Manitou/Laurentian? Hitting up Tremblant for a fantasy football draft in August and wouldn't mind hitting the links at some point.
For a few years, we would pick up packaged deals at the Golf Expo ( in March ) to play La Belle & La Bête…. Unfortunately La Belle is no longer a golf course, and is being developed, but La Bête is still a great course, even though they’ve modified #2 since the last time I played there, and it’s now a par three… it is a challenging course and would recommend it.
Manitou also had a booth at the GolfExpo, and had great deals….BUT there was never a hint that it’s a Par 3 course, and did not know until we arrived at the course…. Yes, it is a challenging Par 3 course, and if you’re like me, and don’t like par 3 courses, I would take a pass.

Would've loved to hit Le Diable/Le Géant, but apparently it's hosting the Quebec Am around the time I'm up. Appreciate the recs, may have to find my way through Montebello for a second round. Cheers!

just north of Montebello, enroute to Tremblant , Club de Golf Heritage is another option that is worth checking out.

Okay, I'm not responding to everything, but it's common knowledge that the change from 'Global Warming' to 'Climate Change' was because people would dismiss global warming when an extra cold winter came along, or Texas got snow, etc etc. Climate Change better represents what is happening. The warming oceans are affecting weather patterns and altering local climates from the patterns we are used to and built our lives around.
Not to mention that for 20 years (1994-2014) the average temp did not rise, and hence the name change (goal posts moving) but now “they” have changed it to Climate Crisis, and the world is going to end in 7 years (AOC). Is the global warming 'pause' over?

WATCH the world cup.

you guys are missing history.

the women's game is transitioning (no not that kind).. Speed, counter attack..

it is amazing to watch; full use of wing backs, rapid forward passes to numbers 9s... Speed to burn, but with skill...

Unreal, the skill level seems to double with each world cup.

We got the Cailini in a few days..

Plus its most likely the last chance to see Sinclair play for a World Cup Squad. Gotta see a living legend

The Tour de France seems exciting this year. Unfortunately I've been traveling and haven't been able to follow closely.
what do you think? Is Vingegaard juiced?

Danish doctors SAY A HEART THAT IS 15% BETTER THAN the AVERAGE Danish Male!!!! in 1998 an American was using the same reasoning!!! HHHMMMM

She and the team made a huge mistake by not dropping her to a #6.... at 40... ouch.. She cannot be a number 9 or 10.

Hard to tell who is and who is not juiced. Best to assume they all are... Pogacar himself had a couple of "impressive" TDF wins before Vingegaard took over.

Giro D'Italia.. Stage 21, the TT up the ski slopes... Roglic drops his chain, almost falls, and still makes up 1 minute on Thomas in the space of the remaining 2 K of climb

TDF, TT up the mountain, (Tuesday) . Pog f's up the bike swap loses 10 seconds.. VINO destroys him by 2 minutes. After Pogacar destroyed the field by 2 minutes. So Vino beat the field by 4 minutes.

11-12% gap on the field for VINO
11-12% gap on the field by Roglic

a 100 hour TDF would be won by 11-12 hours if this held.. Vino would have finished the TDF on Friday while everyone else raced until Sunday.

Somebody is doing something!!!

Nothing to see here.
I thought that we had settled this 2 months ago. Did we not blame it on environmental terrorists?

Where is RFK jr when you need him?

Hello Sens fans. Not the right topic but seems like this thread is visited (and not going to make my own).

What is the best way to buy Sens and tickets? Should I do Stubhub or wait for the single season tickets to go on sale in Sept? Another way to ask is whether there are many single season tix or whether the vast majority are re-sold on the secondary market.

Thank you in advance and looking forward to Nov 9.
