Congrats to Brady......dude must've emptied his bank account to pay for that wedding. Damn. (And the background scene on the wedding shots at the beginning are magnificent.)

Sinead O'Conner has tragically passed. She was 56.

It was an interesting 20 minutes reading up on her. Sad life, misery to spare.

She was not my cup of tea, so I never paid much attention. The SNL skit and the tearing of the Pope's picture.. To protest child abuse by the church!!!

Pretty amazing musician.

What she did on SNL is like to this day one of the most badass things anyone has ever done. Knowingly killed her career and became a pariah to do what she thought was right.

And she was right, wasn't she?

Punk f***ing rock. RIP.

I will never forget the first time I heard her album. I was dating a super cool girl back in the day… she made me a copy tape. I listened to it for weeks. I was blown away by the Lion and the Cobra. Marco Pirroni, ex-ant, was kick ass on guitar.

You have no idea.

I've been following her for years. Sad seeing someone going through something so hard.

I listened to this podcast when it came out and was hoping things were getting better for her... so sad about how things seemed to fall further apart shortly after.

Listened to Black Boys on Mopeds this morning on the way to work. "I love my boy, and that's why I'm leaving"

Mingus,

Did she explain her actions at the time?

Naively, I assumed it was one of two reasons
1) the classic anti religion acting up. Our previous Governor General (Payette) went off like that 6-7 years ago. Somebody is always wailing about religion, so you tune it out.
2) I assumed she was an Irish Protestant. There were still issues (are still issues) between the two and she was going off on the Catholics.

I cannot remember much media explaining. It seemed like when she did the picture tear. Media ran and hid. And she fizzled.

A shame, more details would/may have turned things differently.

THE IRONY OF OUR TIMES.

We are in the most inter-connected world. The Proverbial information supper highway has billions of miles of track... but empty lanes.. information really does not circulate as much as you think.

And so sadly, the tragedy of her life and the reasons for it and reasons for her actions, go un-known. And in the end, we are left seeing the result and not the cause.

When she cried out for help on twitter and people mocked her, my heart broke at the lack of compassion. Her son taking his own life is something so unbearable, I am surprised she lasted as long as she did.

On a semi-related note, the Rubberbandits are dope. I wish they'd make more music.

It was in 92 so everyone was very much aware of the abuse and molestation issues that were coming to light. Everyone understood what she was talking about, especially because she was placed in religious care as a teenager back in Ireland.

People knew but they didn’t care because Catholics were and still are unwilling to face up to the crimes of their Church and of their God. Christ Joe Pesci went on the show a few weeks (months?) after and said he would give her a good smack for what she did.

A brave woman in a dark world.

WATCH the world cup.

you guys are missing history.

the women's game is transitioning (no not that kind).. Speed, counter attack..

it is amazing to watch; full use of wing backs, rapid forward passes to numbers 9s... Speed to burn, but with skill...

Unreal, the skill level seems to double with each world cup.

We got the Cailini in a few days..

in 1992, average life expectancy was 78 or so. Mid was 39, median was 38.
So 1/2 of society was 38 or older. Society is controlled by its older half (Money, power, politics, position, opinion).

so 38-78 in 1992... Born 1954 - 1914. Median age of that group is 57... Born in 1935.

A person born in 1935, was born during the recession. By 1939, WWII.. That person has near negligible education. It predates the mandatory schooling for people 16 or younger.

The hardship of the depression, the uncertainty of WWII, pretty much guaranteed that that individual (through his parents) turned very heavily towards religion. Regardless of which. Any of the Abrahamic, to all other.

so 57 year old, near negligible education, highly religious!!!! what did you expect?

You are describing my parents, my Aunts and Uncles. A priest told them to stand, they stood. To sit, they sat.

She was 10 years too early. In 2002. We would have understood.

aerodynamics was studied by the Brits in the late 1800's. Some Irish scientists were at the heart of early developments. By the early 1900, the Germans would contribute.

This science continues to be strongly studied in Great Britton. Ergo the presence of F1 in England. Most F1 teams are base din England and others steal away British aerodynamicists for their teams.

Canadair was begun by teh Brits during WWII to assist in the development of planes for the war effort.

The Lotus Bike for 2024... Damn!!!

Seriously, I got another tornado warning, we've had a tone of sever thunderstorm warnings too...
Swear to God whoever runs the emergency alerts system gets payed by the notice. How did humanity survive millenia without a horn going off in their pocket everytime there may or may not be lighting in their area?

I was shopping at Metro last week and all the phones started going off at the same time. Couple drips of water over an hour and was a beautiful day outside of that. It's getting ridiculous

The warnings cover a really broad area, but some of the storms have been pretty localized, so far every one I've gotten has hit in my area, but some coworkers have said they didn't get anything.

But why does every regular weather front now warrant 'emergency' status? Heavy rain and lightning has always been a thing. Only the past couple years we seem to treat it like some kind of 'event'.
