Overrated.
Perron was scoring at a close to PPG pace in Q last year (top-5 among 18year olds), so it's not like he is a gem that came out of nowhere.
He was definitely on all other teams radars, there was probably something in his game that they didn't like.

Yeah he's a seventh round choice for a reason. Isn't he small, and not the greatest skater. Being both those things doesn't bode well

He is small in weight but not small in height as he is listed at 6 feet tall. He is only listed at 160lbs but at 18 years old you would think that he will eventually get to be about 200lbs. His skating is not an issue.

Knocks on him have been his weight, his mental focus and slight work ethic. If those things were in order he has the offensive talent to be in the top 3 rounds. I have friends back home that know him, basically said you'll love his goal scoring and offensive abilities.

He will never, ever be 200 pounds. 185 is pushing it.

As mentioned before he's only small in weight and surprisingly strong on his skates for a guy so slight. If anything his skating is a strength, specifically his lateral movement.

Also FWIW NHL Central Skating had him ranked 70th among North American skaters in their final rankings last year (We picked him 190th).

The final CSS rankings:

70.) Francis Perron
73.) Kelly Summers
74.) Miles Gendron

Funny how the first two are 7th round draft picks and Gendron is a 3rd.

gendron apparently was the second best skater of the draft and had some of the best results at the combine. hes a project but has good physical tools

Why wasn't Hogberg in the WJC? Where the other goaltenders just better then him?

Really weird you would make a statement like that but, could you explain how you could possibly know that.

Just an example.... Karlsson's draft weight was under 160 if i'm not mistaken, something like 159. He's never even been remotely close to 190, nevermind 200.

To expand on this, his AHL eligibility is based on how old he was as of July 1st, not how old he is at any given time.

Not July 1st, but December 31st. That's why Shane Prince (Nov 16 1992) was able to play in Bingo at 19; he turned 20 before the end of the calendar year. (As opposed to Puempel (Jan 24 1993))

Ah, ok. I was confusing UFA/RFA dates with AHL dates. Thanks for that.
Main point is that its a fixed deadline, not a rolling one.

I guess but I'm 5'8" 175 lbs and when I graduated from high school I was 150 lbs....Obviously I am not a professional athlete who has the same exposure to a gym and nutritional benefits that they have. I guess it all depends on his build but being 6 feet tall you would think that he could gain more than 25 lbs with the right workout program.
