Graeme Roustan, owner of the Hockey News and a sporting goods company. He was buddies with Melnyk because they are cut from exactly the same cloth. Roustan claimed to be putting this mysterious bid together for the Sens involving an indigenous group (why an indigenous group would invest almost a billion in a hockey team was never quite explained), which seemed strange because Roustan simply doesn't have that kind of capital at his disposal. Talks a good game, though. Not surprisingly, now that binding bids are due, he seems to have dropped out, and is now taking thinly veiled shots at Ryan Reynolds in the process.

This also explains why The Hockey News has gone to shit for the past few years. Dropped a nearly 30-year-old subscription of that magazine last year because it was getting too ugly.

I stopped subscribing about 30 years ago because it became a regurgitation of local sportswriters past columns and provided little in the way of timely news, hockey analysis, analytics, etc. It was boring.

could also be that the Current owners want to accept the bid from one group, and the NHL prefers another group, as the NHL does have “Final Say” over who becomes the next owner… not the current owners.
I bet Reynolds' group is very well aware how everyone wants them and heavily lowballing their offer. At this point it will be a PR disaster for NHL if Reynolds is not a part of the winning bid.

What I like is that RR brought in the very best people for the job with Wrexham. When they need things done, they simply bring in the very best to do it.

Thats how you want the ownership to operate. Not on misplaced sentiment, not on the cheap, but professional and thorough. Save the sentiment for the under dog story, the legacy players, and the fan support in general. Build the young stars to be heroes, craft the story, and let us all be a merry band of Sens fanS against the world.

yes, agree.

the RR group know they have leverage with RR onboard, and they’re probably using it… why wouldn’t they.

back room dealing, I suspect is going on… also not a good look.

Come on now. I know you’re trying to generate drama where there is none because its been reported that the RR group had one of the largest non binding offers out of all 6-7 groups. So there’s zero chance they are heavily lowballing anything.

No chance at all. They want the team, full stop. That means they not only need a competitive bid, but they need the topper, which is RR.

No chance anyone is trying to lowball anyone.

The biggest issue I believe is the amount of real estate space, but as long as the RR bid is competitive they have the sweetner the NHL wants.

There's also the possibility the RR team is offering less because they may not use LeBreton and the freebies from it. That also significantly changes the value of the franchise.

The value of the franchise is what someone else is willing to pay for it,

Yes, but you also have to make the financials work. Less money to buy the team means more money for what happens afterwards.

At the same time, there's also no way the bids will be too far apart. Not if you're serious and want a legit chance of being chosen as the buyer.

Sorry, what's not a good look here? The hypothetical situation for which we have no evidence is actually happening?

there are rumours the RR is not the highest bid….maybe even lower than a few others, and there are rumours that the NHL is trying to do some sort of shepherding to either up the RR groups bid, or getting another group ,involved with the RR group, to sweeten their bid…. Rumours, not a good look

Congratulations to potential future owner Ryan Reynolds, as his club Wrexham FC has secured their league promotion this morning, fulfilling the promise he made when he acquired the club.

Shows how powerful this story is, people think it’s a good thing Rexham advanced when 1 year ago nobody even knew who Rexham was. Very powerful.

CBC National news on repeat as well. And not a short segment. RR will bring so much.

I doubt very much that the group associated with Ryan Reynolds is "low-balling" their offer. They may not be the highest bidder but are probably offering a good price for the team.

I suspect that some of the offers are very interested in the real estate opportunity but that is limited at this time.

Interesting that many people don't understand that RR's involvement is not just some nice bonus, it's an actual valuable part of the bid. Just by putting his name on it, his group can make their offer $100 Million (spitballing here) smaller than others and still be accepted. And they will take full advantage of that, because business.

Obviously it has a huge value for NHL but very small value for the sisters, but in the end, it's NHL who will make the final decision, and Melnyks will miss out on a good chunk of cash thanks to Deadpool.
